Serena
I didn't want to see Damien after last night's awkwardness so I told the staff to bring my food to my room.
Everything about this place was premium comfort and calmness. We weren't poor and I had my fair share of luxury and comfort but this—this was on another level.
Now imagine being married to Damien and having this and more all to yourself.
I smacked my head in a bid to stifle the voices but I couldn't help the warm feeling that gathered inside my stomach. My memory went back to the look on Damien's face while he was trying to take me to safety.
The way he was so concerned made me feel some type of way.
Breakfast was bacon and eggs, with cream cheese on the side. I dug into the deliciousness before me, thoughts of everything that had happened in the past 24hours completely gone—almost.
I was already deep into my feast when I heard a sharp knock on the door; I half expected it to be a staff member but a strange part of me wondered if Damien had come to seek me out. I hadn't seen him since yesterday.
"Who is it?" My voice came out a tad bit muffled because of the food in my mouth.
"Open the door Serena." I panicked. It was Damien. What was he doing here? Did I do something wrong again?
I quickly cleared the area. In my panic, I forgot to change into something more presentable but before the realization hit me, I was already opening the door.
My gaze immediately landed on the perfect face of Damien Romano. His eyes looked like they were sending daggers my way until his gaze lowered and my breath dropped.
His expression completely changed from the angry face I had seen to something more—something like hunger. I'd suddenly realized just how see through my lingerie was.
Fuck! It was too late to go back and change so I stood there, letting his eyes ravage my entire body.
Unbidden, my nipples strained through the fabric and heat completely washed over my face. His gaze settled on them and like a man possessed, he swallowed.
If I didn't say something soon, I could tell that I was going to end up bent over or my mouth would be filled with Damien's cock.
Like it isn't what you want. I slapped the thoughts away and feigned confidence before my voice came out, sounding hoarse. "What can I do for you?"
His gaze returned to my face and the angry expression replaced his once heat laced face.
"Why didn't you come down for breakfast Serena?"
My brows furrowed slightly and for a moment I thought I heard wrong. "Is there any particular reason why I should have? I mean it's breakfast, you can eat it anywhere."
"You haven't answered my question yet."
"I didn't see a reason to come down for breakfast. Is it a tradition or am I missing something?"
He looked like I just smacked him in the face but I sincerely couldn't care less.
"I will allow it this once, but until we are back at my place—or yours, considering the newest developments, you'll have to come down for breakfast."
"What new developments are you talking about?" I said hoping my voice didn't betray my inquisitiveness.
"That's a question that I will answer at breakfast, if you want to know, you know what to do." He said with a final note before turning on his heels and walking away.
I stood there wondering yet again what I did to anger Damien this time but I didn't have time to think. My gut told me something was up and so I rushed back in and changed into something more presentable.
In a few minutes, I was downstairs sitting dangerously close to Damien. I mean we were sitting on opposite ends of the table but I couldn't help but feel a strange sense of unease.
"The wedding's been moved to a different date." He said with a rather warm tone.
"When's the new date?" I asked almost immediately, not giving a fuck about how my voice betrayed the urgency of my inquiry.
Damien's lips curved in a wry manner before he spoke, "A month from now Mia Cara."
I paused. The food hung dangerously in my throat. I couldn't hold back the cough as I started choking.
"Dammit Serena! Is the simple knowledge of our wedding being moved forward enough to spark a reaction like that? And for God's sake, drink some freaking water or something."
He didn't need to tell me twice. I grabbed the glass in front of me and downed the contents completely. Why the fuck hadn't I thought of that?
I set the empty glass back on the table, trying to catch my breath and my pride at the same time. "You could've warned me," I muttered, wiping the corner of my mouth with the back of my hand.
Damien leaned back in his chair, one arm resting lazily on the table, the other tracing the edge of his coffee cup. His gaze never left me.
"Would that have made any difference?"
"Yeah," I shot back, glaring at him.
"Maybe I wouldn't have almost died choking on my breakfast."
His lips twitched—not quite a smile, but close.
"You're dramatic even when you're not trying to be. Plus I've seen you swallow other things before and you didn't cough, even for a minute."
I ignored the heat crawling up my neck and focused on my plate, stabbing at the bacon like it had personally offended me.
"Maybe those things were much smaller in comparison." I casted a knowing gaze at him but he didn't seem phased.
"I would have loved to revive your memory but I'll let it go for now. But trust, you'll pay for that statement soon enough."
My face was flushed with need, I needed to distract myself.
"So, what's the reason behind the sudden rush? I thought it was supposed to be four months from now."
"Circumstances changed."
I frowned. "What circumstances?"
Damien's jaw tightened.
"I believe the events of yesterday set your father off so he no longer wants to wait that long."
I set my fork down and crossed my arms.
"This is so unfair. All these arrangements are happening as if it's not my life. I feel like a secondary player in my own life."
Damien's face didn't look like he cared much.
"Well, things happen that we do not have any control of." He began chewing as if what we were talking about was a casual conversation.
I swallowed hard.
"And you just decided to tell me now?"
He sighed, rubbing his temples like he was already exhausted with me.
"Maybe if you came down for breakfast, we would have been wrapping up this conversation."
"You really know how to ruin breakfast, you know that?"
His voice was a low murmur.
"I'll take that as a compliment."
I made to grab the juice but it was too far. I couldn't bring myself to ask him so I sat up and stretched. I do not know what I was thinking but before I could rethink my decision, a strap of my gown pulled and my bare breasts were in Damien's view. I was mortified.
