The sound of applause and the music slowly faded and I tried to catch my breath.
Damien's hand still rested at the small of my back. For a moment, we didn't move yet. We just stayed there, staring at each other like the rest of the room didn't exist.
Then he finally stepped back a little, his fingers brushing my waist before letting go. The host walked onto the stage again, tapping the microphone lightly. People clapped as he positioned himself to give his speech.
I could still feel Damien's touch on my skin.
"Please take your seats," the host announced cheerfully.
"Tonight, we celebrate growth, partnership, and the continued legacy of this company…"
We walked back to our seats. Damien pulled out my chair for me, then sat beside me. I folded my hands on my lap, trying to act normal. It didn't work. His presence next to me was distracting.
The host continued his speech, talking about numbers, partnerships, expansion, and future plans.
