I barely slept.
I kept waking up every hour, checking my phone like a fool, hoping I'd see her name on the screen. I kept thinking maybe she'd text around midnight, or early morning, saying she was coming home. But nothing showed up.
No messages, no missed calls, nothing.
By six a.m., I gave up. I sat on the edge of the bed staring at the floor. I should've gone to work. I had meetings and calls lined up for me. But the idea of sitting in an office pretending like I wasn't losing my mind wasn't helping.
So I sent my assistant a short message: I'm not coming in today. Handle everything and keep me posted.
I changed into workout clothes and headed to the gym downstairs, everything irritated me. I couldn't concentrate. I'd pick up a weight, set it down, move to another machine, abandon it.
My thoughts kept circling back to Serena, and it was becoming more and more annoying. Wherever she was, she was probably enjoying and living her best life while I was here suffering.
