Chapter 280 - Chapter 280 - Fear or Admiration?

Minx and company listened to every word they were told.

"So, we have many hours before the beasts show up?" Minx said, almost giddy.

She had cooked using the small kitchen. If they were going to be undisturbed until morning, there was no reason to sleep exposed to the elements. She pulled the dome kitchen from her dimensional storage and set it up.

"I didn't want to sleep on the ground if I didn't have to…" she said as she pressed the button to open the door.

The locals looked at each other.

"What is this magic?" Yenthar asked.

Minx giggled, "not magic. This is a machine created by a close friend. The other contraption I cooked with was created by him as well. They were created to increase my safety while in situations such as this."

She beckoned everyone follow her in. "There are only five beds so some will need to sleep on bedrolls. For Jaykon and Yenthar, there is a bathroom around the corner there."

Each person had their own bedrolls, so Minx just needed to pull one out for Yenthar and a blanket for herself as she took the couch.

"Valone, did you want to sleep on our floor or below?" Minx asked.

His eyes were still wide as he touched all the surfaces like any moment he would wake from some mystical dream.

"Valone?" She asked, trying to get his attention.

He shook his head and smiled broadly, "how could I decline such a kind offer!"

Minx smiled brightly, "allow me to show you around."

She demonstrated how a faucet worked, the toilet and shower as well. He was impressed.

"Where does the water come from?" Valone asked softly, almost with reverence.

She pointed to where the tank was stored, "There is a tank under there. Remember how Aqua gave you water? He fills that tank every time I set it up, first thing so people can shower and have fresh water to drink."

Shalt, Biff, Aqua, Dufus, and Jaykon took a bed each. Midas and Owen slept on bedrolls near the couch which belonged to Minx. The maccavities slept in the same area causing Valone and Yenthar to sleep in between the beds. Most slept well. Valone had never known such a good sleep as what he got that night.

Minx woke them with the smell of breakfast. No one complained.

It didn't take long to eat, clean up, and get the structure packed away. Valone feared the newcomers weren't taking the threat seriously. They were too relaxed for what was getting ready to happen.

A male and a female came up from below, clearly against their will but they were being held by both arms. They were led to poles that Minx missed when they arrived but stood out to Midas as wrong.

Stepping to her side, "where do you want us, Minx?"

Her eyes dissected everything in that direction.

Shalt stepped up, "I'm thinking we hang out over there," he said as he pointed.

Minx nodded, "I agree but the three of us with wings look over the top of the wall. We don't let it touch them. No one else comes out until we engage. We need to assess its strength first."

It was mid-morning before a silverish blue beast with a pointed snout like a bullet sauntered across the desert like it owned the world. It stood twenty feet tall and was armored from nose to tail.

"Jaykon, you get first attack. Weaken that armor with your blood. We'll be right behind you," Minx ordered.

He smiled. He had been under the protection of the Botan family for over 10 years. He was now finally able to provide them some support. He was finally able to use the skills he discovered while training with Shalt in secrecy. And, most importantly, he was finally able to reveal his existence, no longer being a secret.

Minx watched this pompous beast meander his way forward, savoring the fear his presence created and had enough. She decided to saunter as well… To position herself between the beast and the humans.

Midas and Jaykon looked at each other as if to ask, what was the point of a plan…

The beast saw a female fairy and became enraged. However, since they had not been seen in years, he didn't take the threat seriously, thinking it was newly born.

Jaykon stuck to the original plan with Midas on hold, watching the danger level his sister was in. The beast had decided to charge, focused on Minx. Jaykon decided it was safe to slowly rise in the air so his movement wouldn't be noticed.

He held his hands out in front of him with his fingertips pointed to the sky. As he slowly rose, he concentrated on oozing some blood from each tip into the shape of an almond. He got high enough he felt safe then raced forward as the beast was finally close enough.

Just as it was about to reach Minx, he threw these blood drops on the ground. The beast stepped in them and was ensnared in red, acidic roots. It roared in rage, the sound echoing off the ruins.

Jaykon smirked, pleased his blood roots worked as he envisioned them. He was still smirking when, a second later, he released a circle of blood rain big enough to cover the entire beast. Now that he knew his blood was acidic to beasts as well as vampires, he relished using his new skills.

While he didn't like it, he could understand why vampires feared his class. The skills he had uncovered so far would be quite painful to a vampire.

The drawback of this blood skills was he would need to drink vampire blood more frequently. With the thickness of the armor, he used too much rain and reached for the flash he carried with Shalt's blood in it.

As he got the flask to his lips, he heard an excited voice from behind, "break off, Jaykon. That was amazing!"

While the beast didn't seem too upset over the blood rain, Minx and Midas didn't care. They didn't know if it was required for the task or not, but they blooded their swords then brought them down at the same time in the same place. The swords, working together, cut the beast in half.

They repeatedly stabbed and slashed at the beast until the blood was spent. Midas grabbed the beast crystal. He realized something. Holding the crystal didn't hurt him the way the beast crystals back home did. The question he had was should he tell Minx. He used his magic to open the same type of portal she used and deposited the crystal.

"Minx, this was only emperor tier," he informed her.

She nodded, "let them keep doing this. We'll collect the crystals, figure out what mom did and see if we can make something the others can use."

Meanwhile the rest of the locals were looking at them with a mixture of fear and admiration.
