In the dark room known as Quinn's shadowlock skill, Quinn explained.
"Owen was attacked by a vampire that was actually a spy. Jim Eno took the King's spies and somehow modified them. We were unable to get any information out of them on what happened. As for Owen, he almost died. They started the process of turning him into a vampire but were not strong enough to complete the process. I was able to stop it and he's back to full health."
Lana took a deep breath, "So your uncle took all the king's spies and reprogrammed them somehow to work for him. Should I keep the idea of looking for them or do you have another job for me?"
"The military is a mess. I'd say look into dalki movements if you can once you finish training. Don't rush anyone into the field."
Lana nodded, "I don't want my people dead due to rushing. I have Mona Bree's former assistant on the way to see me. He wants to know about Owen. What is the public answer?"
"Just say he was betrayed by his own man but he's recovering now. I know he and Mona were close."
Lana nodded. "Why is Shiro here?"
"Shiro has no ability. Eno is going to look in the tablet on Blade island for the ability to transfer Vorden and Raten out of Sil's body. If it's there, he will give that ability to Shiro. One more step closer to getting them back. We'll be leaving in 8 hours. We are waiting for someone."
Lana smiled.
"While we are catching up, is there anything I should know?"
"Well, I gave Sil some energy bars for the trip in case he needs them. Your grandfather and I did an exchange so I'm learning those books Sil brought back for me now. With Eno's help, I'm understanding the material better. He said Eno can't always be trusted but I wanted you to know. Whatever his motives, he helped me."
Quinn nodded.
"I need to get down to the Crow planet and meet Tonko."
Suddenly she was no longer in darkness.
Lana looked quickly for Shiro and grabbed him in a big hug. He looked terribly uncomfortable but she didn't hold him long.
"You have no idea how many lives you're making better with this. Thank you so much, from the bottom of my heart!"
Lana waived her hand, "gotta fly!"
She did just that to the teleporter. Tonko was there waiting for her. They gave the two a meeting room to discuss things.
"The only things your mother left were this metal device, this crystal sword which is not a crystal from this world and this trinket. Noone has a clue what these are."
Lana nodded, taking them from him without paying much attention yet. "I asked what happened to Owen. They are very busy on the Cursed Ship right now since the dalki have attacked. Owen was betrayed by one of his own. It wasn't the dalki that injured him so severely. By the time Quinn got there to be by his side, they had figured out what the issue was. He is now resting and will make a full recovery."
Tonko exhaled as the worry escaped him. "Thank you for asking for me."
Lana chuckled, "honestly, I was worried as well. And I was a bit rude… I burst in on their meeting and was lucky they didn't kick me out," she chuckled.
"We both were!"
Lana thanked him, bid him goodbye and returned to the ship. She decided to wait for Sil. The meeting was soon over and Sil pulled Shiro over and thanked him for his help. He was acting like a normal human being. Lana was so pleased.
"Sil, do you have any instructions for the kids while you're gone?"
He nodded, "Quinn asked Peter to stay here and watch over them so we can move them back to the ship. Why are you here by yourself?"
"Um… I needed to get information fast for my meeting. So I flew…"
"We have 8 hours. Let's go get the kids and we can hang out here until we leave."
Lana nodded and waived for Shiro to join them.
The three went to the teleporter. Shiro was in shock over the place they ended up. The first place they went was the Blade area. The area was empty so she asked Winnifred which exit they used and she pointed for them. They found the kids practicing their abilities in the forest near the old Bree settlement.
Sil, Shiro and Lana watched them for a bit until they were noticed.
"It's time to head back to the ship," Sil told them.
"But we're having so much fun!" Deal said.
Lana chuckled, "You know you won't be gone forever. This is your home, too."
They sheparded the kids back into the shelter and through the teleporter, telling the kids, they would be there soon. Next, they went to their home. Shiro marveled at the shelter Lana had built.
"This place is so peaceful! Are you ever attacked?"
Lana shook her head. "The ones that do that are north of here. We have a natural barrier that keeps them from us."
"Is that why you picked this planet to live on?"
"No. I was drawn here. It turned out my mother was here so now I'm trying to find out who she was and such."
"You didn't know our mother?"
"I'm an orphan, Shiro."
"Oh."
They arrived at their home and Sil immediately picked up Olivia. Lana picked up Owen. Caser heard her return and came running down the stairs, tree groaning with each step.
Shiro quickly hid behind Lana and she laughed. "Did you forget Caser? Say hello. He won't hurt you."
Shiro reached out and touched Caser's nose. He started purring which sounded like a growl so Shiro quickly retracted his hand.
Lana chuckled, "he was purring!"
"Oh…" Shiro said timidly. He put his hand back out and stroked the cat's nose.
Shalt had the kids ready to go so they all left to go hang out in the training room the kids used on the ship after stopping by the command post to let them know where she'd be.
It seemed like the time flew by, Lana lamented Sil having to leave. She kissed her husband goodbye. He insisted that she went back and not follow him to the ship they would be taking to the Island.
As Lana and entourage stepped through the teleporter, Kattie came running up. "There are dalki at the other shelter! There's a 5-spike! It's One Horn!"
"Get a team out there with the equipment we used on that Bree planet. I want eyes and feed. Record everything. Stay out of sight!"
