Minny jumped up and gave Quinn a hug, "thank you for making my mothers dream come true! I'm going to put these away. I'll be right back!" she said as she was already halfway to the house.
Minx chuckled, "I hoped that would give her some closure."
She looked Quinn in the eyes, "Now, Owen Greylash…"
"First off," Quinn started his expMinxtion, "I need you to understand when I turned Erin, I was new to being a vampire and I didn't know what I was doing…"
Minx raised an eyebrow.
"The system told me she was a dhampir. Another name for them was vampire hunter."
Now both her eyebrows were raised.
"Leo told me he had been training her to fight her urge to kill vampires."
"Owen wasn't a vampire, Quinn or did he…"
Quinn continued, "she had her memory altered by someone working with Truedream, who is finally dead, by the way. She thought vampires killed her family, so she went on a killing spree of all vampires. In the process, she killed Owen because he was supporting them and so she could get his familiar, I guess. Leo had one of the kings as well and she killed Leo. She ended up with all four familiar kings."
"She killed LEO?!?! Please tell me the bitch is dead!" Minx almost shouted.
Quinn grew even more somber, "I killed her… It's how I found out about what Truedream did. She told me as she was dying."
"Did Truedream die painfully?"
Quinn nodded, "from the way his body looked, yes."
"The Jim Eno clone?"
Quinn took a moment, "The Jim clone along with Truedream created a whole new race of dalki with abilities. That was the war that killed most of the Blades, many vampires and many humans. Jim mindwiped people taking credit for my actions then went on an inter-galactic conquest. He made up a bunch of lies to get people to follow him. They trapped Sil," he nodded Sil's direction who pulled Minx into his lap not wanting to remember this part, "and used his power to make sure the mind alteration worked on a mass scale. It was a really hard time."
Minx nodded. "I see everyone had a hard time. My husband has been through hell and I wasn't here to help him through it." There was sadness in her voice.
Sil leaned close to her ear, "don't do that. You have your own sadness that I wasn't able to help you through."
Quinn's ears perked up, "what sadness? What happened while you were away?"
"Midas is no longer with us." Minx said. "Serene and Griddlebone died courageously in the war to free my people." That was ALL she said, not willing to add anything to it.
"Where's Fex?" Minx asked curiously.
"He was in eternal slumber when I woke up. He created the Vampire Corps with his wife Samantha. She was a draugr that I turned. She was also killed by Erin and Fex wanted revenge. I woke him up so he could see his revenge happen. He went back into eternal slumber soon after that."
"Is Vincent still alive?"
Quinn smiled and nodded.
"Good, he was cool from the few interactions we had. He was interested in my sword but I never had time to let him examine it. It's with Angelina but he can check out my sai as long as there's no blood in them."
"I noticed there's sai on your back now instead of a sword at your waist. Care to try them out on me?"
Minx laughed, "NO."
Quinn smirked, "still afraid to spar with me, huh?"
"I barely beat a god. I heard you beat a few with Sil so, no. Logan said the cursed Faction broke up. Do we know what happened to Sam, Alex and Linda?"
"Linda, from what I know just lived her life. She had her heart broken so many times in a short period, so she just focused on finding happy. Sam is hanging out with Bliss, a god, and Alex is still alive."
Minx looked shocked, "Sam is with Bliss? Why?"
Quinn shrugged, "I don't fully understand it, just that he's helping her."
They spent several hours eating, talking and enjoying each other's company. This was something they had not done since their school days. Minx simply enjoyed the time.
Sil took her by the parking garage where her ship was parked. While traveling, Max informed her the familiars had four different kings and the familiar world was divided into four different areas, each ruled by a king. Before the final push, the four kinds each had bonded with someone: Quinn with the boneclaw, Owen with Genbu, the body that was once Oscar with Dunloc a horse, and Leo with Ovinik the cat.
These kings all fought in the Dalki War but our world was diing. They wanted to stay contracted so they could keep gathering energy to try to save it. The kings even had to kill new familiars because there wasn't enough energy to support them. They decided to join with really strong people. I think they blamed Owen because they were always with vampires before. Owen was human and they didn't think he was strong enough. This is my speculation. It's not like the kings consult with me. They are currently joined with Peter and the familiars are now moved to a new world. The familiars now only contract to get off world, no longer needing to farm energy to save a diing planet.
Owen used telekinesis to move everything to Sil's ship and they were off to his home. Black Rock Orphanage.
Minx had purchased the orphanage as soon as she had the funds and her business manager handled things for her but after so many years, the new guy didn't do an … ethical job. Logan had to take over and put everything in a trust. He was grateful when Sil showed interested in owning it. Logan told him he technically did because he was Minx's husband and nothing more needed to be said. Sil moved in, modernized it, expanded it, and made sure the children never wanted for anything again.
Minx smiled so broadly when she saw the new location and new building. She couldn't help but give Sil the kiss he so deserved.
Sil gave them a tour, showing Shalt to his room on the ground floor as he was quite frail. Sil told him he earned the right to rest after everything he endured at the side of Minx over the past years. Sil felt it was his job and felt that a man stepping in to take care of another man's family showed a special kind of character.
The twins were given adjoining rooms on the fourth floor while Minx joined Sil in his room on the fifth floor.
Minx grinned, "does the room leak?"
Sil's eyes burned in her as he put her against the wall once more.
"There are no leaks," he kissed her forehead.
"You can have as many blankets as you want," he kissed her cheek.
"You can have as many pillows as you want," he kissed her other cheek.
"You can sleep alone if you want," he kissed the tip of her nose.
"You can even sleep every light for the rest of your life next to you husband in whatever you choose to wear," he kissed her on the mouth deeply.
A few moments later, there was a knock on the open door and a clearing of a throat. "Here are mom's things…" Owen grinned.
Sil hung his head, "even as adults…" he said quietly.
Minx visited Logan and Vincent and allowed them to take scans of her weapons. Logan gave her locations that needed vegetation and Sil helped her with her self-appointed task while the twins helped with the orphanage.
A week after arriving, Shalt died in his sleep, content with the knowledge that Minx was finally being taken care of the way she deserved.
