Chapter 30 - Chapter 30: Fu Xuan: Wah! Yu Xian, Don’t Die!

Whether Yu Xian and Qing Que truly fall in love or get married.bWhen it comes down to it, it really has little to do with her—and even less to do with the entire Luofu Xianzhou.

What about the lifespan disparity? The lifelong regret? The Commission Divination losing a prodigy or having no successors?

Recalling the words she had once spoken and the thoughts she had held, Fu Xuan felt no embarrassment at all, as though struck by her own boomerang.

Admittedly, if she hadn't intervened, those issues would likely have arisen. But weren't those problems that would take decades to surface at the earliest?

Look at the present instead! In this dream—so vivid it hardly felt like one—countless major and minor affairs of the Xianzhou were already piling up. If even a single one were mishandled, the Luofu might explode right now.

So, Fu Xuan began working overtime in the dream.

She calculated tirelessly, soothed the unrest within the Commission Divination, personally rushed to incident sites to resolve crises, and even collaborated with General Jing Yuan on several critical matters—while occasionally reminding that white-haired old fogey to hurry up and retire so she could take his place as General.

Ahem… perhaps something unnecessary slipped in there.

Anyway, during that period, Fu Xuan was busier than ever, striving to pull the Luofu Xianzhou back from the brink of chaos. Yet, despite all her efforts, the situation showed no sign of improvement.

Racial discrimination between long-life and short-life species, self-governing factions led by Vidyadhara elders, constant pressure from the Interastral Peace Corporation, strained relations with other Xianzhou ships and the Alliance's upper ranks—though it was all supposedly just a dream, Fu Xuan truly felt as though the sky was collapsing and the Luofu was doomed.

As for Yu Xian and Qing Que, Fu Xuan simply didn't have the energy to concern herself with them. She could only check in occasionally to make sure they were still alive.

Then one day, during a casual chat with Yu Xian, the exhausted Fu Xuan—without thinking—vented her bottled-up frustrations. She poured out her heart and left, unaware that a few nosy diviners had overheard the entire conversation.

Fu Xuan didn't care. So what if they listened? It wasn't like she'd lose a piece of flesh. It's not as if she or Yu Xian would die because of it—

At least, that's what she thought.

Until she found Yu Xian lying amidst the ruins of the shattered Aurum alley.

"Wah! Yu Xian, don't die, don't die—!"

Covered in blood, a gaping hole in his chest, Yu Xian collapsed in her arms as his warmth slowly faded. Fu Xuan's mind went blank.

After performing a divination, she discovered the truth—Yu Xian had been ambushed by a traitor, one who had decided to strike precisely because of that overheard conversation.

Fu Xuan completely broke down.

Her most trusted subordinate, the brightest light of the Commission Divination, the future Master Diviner was gone because of her own carelessness.

It was over.

The Commission's future had never looked darker. Yu Xian's death would be unbearable for Qingque, and by Fu Xuan's calculations, Qingque would likely lose her mind after this tragedy.

Fu Xuan herself was overwhelmed with grief. As the so-called "legendary Master Diviner" who had interfered in Yu Xian's love life for years, her understanding of him was no less than Qingque's—perhaps even deeper.

From her perspective as an observer, she could see Yu Xian more clearly than anyone else.

She knew how good he was—not just his looks or his skill, but his heart. That radiant, selfless heart, overflowing with light, had a charm few could resist.

If Fu Xuan hadn't matured, if she didn't know that Yu Xian and Qingque truly loved each other, if she hadn't understood that Yu Xian's mortal lifespan made such a love tragic from the start…

Perhaps, even she wouldn't have been able to stay detached.

And now, such a Yu Xian had died because of her negligence. Her heart ached unbearably.

Still, Fu Xuan didn't lose her sanity like Qingque did. Through tears, she handled Yu Xian's funeral as neatly and respectfully as possible, using the investigation as an opportunity to root out the traitors who had caused his death.

After all, Yu Xian wasn't her lover or husband—he belonged to Qingque.

Fu Xuan knew she had no right to harbor any feelings that went beyond their bond.

In the century that followed within that dream, Fu Xuan sealed her heart away, burying herself in work while desperately trying to keep Qingque from descending into madness.

But in the end, she failed. Qingque still took the Omniscia Eye from her forehead.

"Speaking of which, Qingque's talent truly surpassed mine. After obtaining the Omniscia Eye, she became even stronger than I was—"

At that moment, as Fu Xuan lost her Omniscia Eye, she felt a strange sense of peace. She stepped back, intending to simply observe what Qingque would do next.

But before she could see the outcome, Fu Xuan awoke from the long dream.

Sunlight streamed across her face, its brightness stinging her newly opened eyes.

"Whatever. It was just a dream anyway. No big loss if I didn't see the rest."

Rubbing her eyes, Fu Xuan stood up, feeling an odd sense of relief.

Thank goodness—it was only a dream. Yu Xian's death wasn't real.

See? He's right there, sleeping peacefully beside her.

Yu Xian isn't dead. Wonderful!

Half smug and half amused, Fu Xuan patted his shoulder with mock annoyance.

"You—how dare you fall asleep during my personal lesson! You're simply—"

Huh?

He didn't wake up. Still sleeping so deeply?

Fu Xuan froze.

A faint sense of unease crept into her heart.

Something felt wrong. Very wrong.

She called Yu Xian's name. No response.

She pulled back the blanket she had draped over him the night before. Still nothing.

She shook his shoulder, patted his back, even rapped his skull hard.

No matter what she did, Yu Xian didn't wake up.

Not even a twitch.

It was as if he were trapped somewhere far beyond her reach.

And only then did Fu Xuan truly panic.

Yu Xian wasn't just asleep.

It was as if he were gone
