Chapter 29 - Chapter 29: The Final Morning

Isabella signed the dissolution papers at the lawyer's office with a hand that didn't shake.

Two years of marriage—legal, binding, secret—ended with three signatures and a notary stamp. Mr. Hastings, the same lawyer who'd witnessed their wedding in that cold courthouse, looked at her with something like pity.

"The final payment will be processed within the hour," he said quietly. "Five million dollars, as stipulated. Your mother's medical care remains covered in perpetuity through the Blackwood Global charitable trust."

Five million dollars. Everything she'd sacrificed for. Everything she'd sold herself for.

It felt like blood money now.

"Thank you," Isabella said, her voice steady despite the hollowness in her chest.

"Ms. Hart—" Mr. Hastings hesitated. "May I speak frankly?"

Isabella nodded.
