Chapter 2 - 'Ice ripples - Leitawshian empire'

Over thirty years ago the world was slightly different than it is now. Chaos across the globe. Powerful creatures, demi-humans, humans possessing various supernatural powers did as they pleased and anybody unfortunate enough to encounter such an existence that wasn't so righteous or caught in the crossfire of one of their conflicts could only hope that at the least they'd get to live another day. As long as people could remember, life had always been like that. Though, some older fellows, especially belonging to species known for their longevity, spoke of a time before the age of conflict. A time were ability wielding powerhouses were few and far apart, rarely possessing powerful enough abilities to be considered more than handy quality of life tools, minor amenities.

However, the age of chaos came to a steady halt as countries began implementing proper tactics to deal with the globally present problem of unsupervised use of abilities. It is due, in large part, to the fact that most countries' leaders themselves were supernaturals that they were able to successfully accomplish the achievement of global peace. Or conversely, if they weren't, a supernatural would take over the lands eventually. "The strongest leads the pack" - whoever didn't obey, perished.

Military research and production site. A cozy office on the top floor of the office building. An eye-catching carpet flooring dyed in chocolate brown, mint green, light grey and deep crimson, depicting a field of unique red flora. Multiple individually intringuing wooden shelves decorated in metallic ornaments lined up against the walls, filled with dozens of books and portfolios. In the center of the office, an office desk and a pair of chairs matching the designs of the shelves stand moved diagonally, the large window behind them allowing dim sunlight to illuminate the room. Files and seperate documents lie all over the place - on the shelves, on the office desk, a few even thrown on the coloured carpet flooring.

"..." Zeviret is laying back on the guest chair, resting his arms on the armrests.

"I guess you haven't been fairing well recently - declining mental health?" the researcher drew a rhetorical verdict, squinted side-eyeing the slim man.

"..." Zeviret doesn't reply in any meaningful way. Just stares at the female researcher as if putting on airs with those intrinsically dreary pupils.

The black-haired woman continued paying no mind, "Digressing now slightly onto a more prominent topic - war. It has become more apparent lately that it's inevitable. The Easterners are growing restless as their kingdoms are gradually falling to shambles."

she threw a glance - still unresponsive.

The woman leaned in, elbows on desk, "The lands bordering the Forsaken Valley have been rather silent as of late as well. I'd be inclined to presume that our emperor will activate the available forces for more active missions soon enough."

"Morana, you know I cannot be excused, so why mention this?" he blankly blurted out.

*sigh*

Morana drooped on her desk, exaggerated. Not a moment passed and she tossed herself backwards into laying back against the seat, looking at the ceiling.

"The age of peace is coming to an end. All it takes is a spark to ignite the flame of worlfwide conflict. The consequences of which is unpredictable. It matters not how powerful somebody might be, we all are mere mortals." she calmly stated and followed by a rhetorical question, "How deep does human sin go?"

Allona furrowed his brows in discontent, "Where are you leading with this?"

Morana turned to him with prying grey orbs, "You have sisters to look after and I'm an individual of reasonable authority. Have you not thought of just running away? To start anew somewhere else?"

He did not answer.

Leitawsha, in comparison with other nations, is a steadily growing empire. It possesses wast reasources at its disposal, one of the largest populations. It is a well developed nation due to having trade routes leading to most nations via its roads, rivers, northern and southern sea. The nation is revered for being the centre of diversity, housing multiple human and demi-human races, their cultures. The current emperor is a competent ruler who manages to effectively use the accessable resources.

The empire borders four other nations, as well as the northern sea Shourina northwest of it and the southern sea Pytina to the southeast.

Syolvia at the north has always been in alliance with Leitawsha. The two countries' leaders have a long history with eachother going way before the age of peace. Aggravating Leitawsha essentially corresponds to doing the same with Syolvia. The everwinter nation is infamous for their natives' resilient, resourceful nature as well as mostly being shrouded in mystery.

Vockytzan at the west is a kingdom that has continuously cooperated with Leitawsha to deal with the Forbidden Valley they both border. Over the years, dealing with the powerful supernatural creatures wandering out of the Valley has trained both nations' armies to great extent. They are known for opting for unconventional means of dealing with obstacles conditioned by their population being smaller than the land they own, a land of innovation.

Navserda at the south is a peculiar nation due to being a republic of merchants. The republic is the epicenter of the worlds trade. It deals trade with every single nation in the world, all the world's goods can be found there. Navserda doesn't have any official army nor force of its own, but it doesn't require one thanks to its unique nature.

Ruktsha at the east is a holy kingdom that has great religious influence, is famous for their architectural achievements. However, it's also infamous for their unwelcoming of outsiders and notably of demi-humans. Their holy ruler in the past aggressively waged campaigns to conquer other nations to expand their belief's sphere of influence, even when peace was mostly established worldwide. Due to their leader's misjudgements, the country suffers stagnation.

Leitawsha dominates as the major power in the northern hemisphere, occupying the largest plot of land, with the biggest population and well-versed enough in other aspects to be considered such.

The signature Leitawshian emblem picturing a demonic hand pierced by a sword symbolises the esteemed accomplishment of suppression of powerful supernatural creatures and warding them off into the Forbidden Valley. Leitawshian military forces that took part in this honourable deed twenty-one years ago that boosted the nation's power were awarded such emblems made from varying precious materials, such as those found in treasuries.

The golden pocketwatch shows eight in the morning. Allona stares at it, deep in thought. The clock ticks unevenly, vaguely melody-like.

*tick, tock, tock*

*tick, tock, tock*

He rolls over to face the ceiling and stares at it for a bit as well before getting out of bed. He gets ready to get back to work, as per usual, but not before making some tasty breakfast for his beloved sisters overcome by gentle light happiness thinking of them.

"All one needs is a joyful thought." he smiles arranging the omelets and sausages on the plates to resemble happy faces.

Putting on his uniform, right before stepping through the doorframe, Zeviret looks back for a moment. Hesitation. Fear. Resolve.

"Soldiers do not waver, they act. Brainwash." he scowles murmuring.

Scepticism.
