Chapter 51 - Chapter 51: Buying a Car

"The riots have been going on for three days. Besides sympathy and condemnation, what else has our President done?"

"And the FBI? As the nation's highest judicial body, after such a huge mess, they should at least make some kind of statement!" Luke spread his hands. "So, where is that statement?"

Emily was silent. Luke was right; the headquarters was too quiet. It wasn't the FBI's style at all.

Luke continued, "There's a classic saying in the East: 'A sudden anomaly must conceal a monster.' It means that when things violate common sense, there must be something strange going on. The White House and the FBI are reacting so slowly for only one reason: there's an internal problem. The White House side is too complex to guess, but the FBI is different. It's either the Director or the Senior Executive in charge of criminal investigations. Only problems with them would lead to the current situation."

"When you go back, you need to find a way to investigate their connections, find leverage over them, and hold onto it tightly. It will be a huge help for your future development."

Emily swallowed, whispering, "Luke, you sound like a conspiracy theorist."

Luke curled his lip. "It's all because of you. If you quit your job and focused on being my personal secretary, I wouldn't have to waste so much brainpower."

"I'm not going to be a secretary!"

"If you don't, I'll find someone else."

The girl turned her head away. "Suit yourself. It has nothing to do with me."

Luke shrugged. Women. Always saying one thing but meaning another. They say they don't care, but they mind more than anyone.

"Come on, I'm taking you somewhere to relax!"

"Where are we going?"

"You'll see when we get there."

The two laughed and chatted all the way through the milling crowds to the entrance of Gotham City's largest 4S dealership.

Thanks to the guard dogs—Caucasian Shepherds—the dealership was untouched by the riots. Aside from a faint smell of dog excrement in the air, everything was fine.

"What did you bring me here for?"

"To buy a car, of course."

Emily was puzzled. "Don't you have a car? The silver-white Ferrari, and the black..." She didn't finish the sentence.

Luke patted her head. "It's for you, silly!"

Emily's cheeks flushed slightly, embarrassed, but an unusual feeling welled up inside her.

No one had ever bought her a car, ever since she was a child.

The favorite customers of car salespeople are handsome men and beautiful women, especially if they're young. These people are usually wealthy heirs who haven't entered the real world, are concerned with appearances, have money, and are easily persuaded.

Seeing Luke and Emily, the three female sales reps at the counter immediately lit up, scrambling to get to the front. But a tall, curvy blonde with long legs suddenly cut them off.

"Hello, I'm Jessie, a sales consultant here. I'm delighted to serve you."

"May I ask about the models and..."

Luke raised his hand. "Don't talk. Just follow along. You'll get your commission."

Jessie's face stiffened, but her mind raced. Judging by his tone, he was a textbook rich kid.

She took another look at him: black hair, green eyes, tall build. His face was young, but he had an indescribable noble presence. He's so handsome...

A blush inexplicably rose to her cheeks, and she batted her eyes, sending silent, flirty glances.

A woman's intuition is very sharp!

Although Emily had never been in a relationship, she understood what was going on. Seeing the curvy girl's gaze growing bolder and her hips swaying more provocatively, she couldn't stand it. She raised a finger, a sliver of ice forming into a cone, and slid it down Jessie's thigh, under her skirt.

Ah!

A bone-chilling cold shot up from her inner thigh. Jessie clamped her legs together, letting out a sharp, odd squeal that drew everyone's attention. When they saw the curvy girl covering her legs like Marilyn Monroe, their eyes widened.

Several gray-haired customers lamented the decline of public morals while quietly asking for her name and phone number.

Luke suppressed his strange amusement and asked aloud, "What's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"

"No, no."

Jessie quickly shook her head. Realizing what was happening to her leg, she apologized, "I'm so sorry. I need to use the restroom."

With a crimson face, she hurried away.

Luke gave Emily a knowing look.

"Look at the trouble you caused!"

The girl scoffed. "I've never seen anyone selling cars while wiggling her butt."

"People wiggle their butts just walking! Let alone selling cars."

"She can wiggle for others, but she can't wiggle in front of me."

Luke gave her a thumbs-up. "As expected of the FBI. Very possessive."

Soon, Jessie returned, apologizing profusely. She no longer dared to walk ahead, choosing only to follow behind. She wasn't foolish; that mysterious chill must have come from the pretty girl with purple hair and purple eyes.

This 4S dealership had an impressive inventory, featuring many famous brands: Maybach, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Koenigsegg... even the latest Rolls-Royce models.

"Tell me, which one do you like?"

Emily whispered, "Let's go to another store. This one is too expensive."

Luke smiled, pointing to a Koenigsegg on the right. "How about this one? It's gold, and the design is very cool."

Emily saw the price and quickly shook her head. "I don't like supercars."

"Then choose a Maybach." Then he added, "No, a Maybach isn't suitable for a lady."

They circled the showroom and stopped in front of a Porsche.

"This one is nice. Amethyst Purple. The style and design are both excellent. It suits you very well."

Emily's eyes were immediately drawn to the beautiful exterior, but when she saw the $200,000 price tag, her eyes darkened.

As a low-level FBI agent, $200,000 was nearly five years of her pre-tax salary.

"Miss Jessie, I'll take this car."

Emily was frantic, but Luke ignored her, placing his bank card on the table.

"Excellent, Sir. I'll process the paperwork for you right away."

Jessie happily picked up the bank card. Before leaving, she couldn't help but look at Emily with envy and jealousy.

She's not as pretty as me, and her body isn't as good, yet she snagged a handsome, wealthy boyfriend. God must be blind.

"Luke, this car is too expensive. Let's get a different one!"

"The money's already paid. If you don't want it, I'll give it to someone else. Like the sales clerk—Miss Jessie."

The girl huffed. "Then give it to her!"

Luke raised his hand. "Miss Jessie, could you come here for a moment?"

"Are you really going to give it away?"

"Do you want it or not?"

"No!"

Luke said petulantly, "Fine, I'll give it to someone else then."

Jessie quickly walked over and bowed. "Sir, do you need any assistance?"

"I want to give you a gift."

Jessie's eyes lit up. She glanced at Emily's rigid expression, and her voice became even sweeter.

"What kind of gift were you thinking of giving me?"

Luke smiled faintly and took two bills out of his wallet.

"A two-hundred-dollar tip."

The disappointment in the curvy girl's eyes was evident. Emily was strangely relieved, yet she felt a little upset, too. When no one was looking, she stomped hard on Luke's foot.

That's for tricking me!

After Jessie left, Luke quickly pulled back his right foot and grimaced.

"Your Highness, try the car quickly. I need to get back to work soon; I don't have much time to spend with you."

"Don't trick me again."

Emily huffed heavily. Then she opened the car door and sat in the driver's seat. Feeling the comfort of the seat, her anger immediately turned to joy.
