Chapter 68 - Chapter 68: Inhumane Experiments!!!

A burst of hearty laughter suddenly echoed through the pleasant Spanish restaurant. Everyone looked over to see a super-sweet-looking girl clutching her stomach and giggling, amused by something.

Luke took a sip of juice and said calmly,

"You don't believe I can kill you."

"What do you think?"

Linda raised the corner of her mouth, her expression mocking. On this planet, she was invincible, virtually a god. Aside from her cousin, Kal-El (who was also Kryptonian), no one could harm a hair on her head.

As for the handsome young man in front of her, if he had Kryptonian blood, Linda wouldn't mind a romantic encounter. Unfortunately, he was just an Earthling she could kill with a single poke of her finger.

Earthlings were too stupid, with the exception of Melissa.

Luke put down his water glass and said coolly, "Want to test it out?"

"Sure!"

Linda spread her hands, watching him with a wide smile.

"If you can kill me, I'll go on a date with you."

"Forget the date. I'm not interested in lumps of iron."

Linda: "..."

Is this guy trying to die?

Luke extended his right hand and grabbed her arm. The girl didn't resist, sitting motionless, her eyes full of sarcasm. She decided that if Luke failed, she would teach him a lesson he would never forget.

"Miss Danvers, you've made a terrible mistake."

"Oh yeah?"

Linda smiled, about to mock him. The next second, she froze. An unspeakable, immense fear enveloped her. Everything in her vision vanished, leaving only a raging, deep green flame.

The green flame was bone-chillingly cold, as if it would freeze her soul.

She tried to scream in terror but couldn't make a sound. Her soul separated from her body, trapped in a cage glowing with the green flame. She struggled desperately but couldn't muster any strength. A feeling of weakness she'd never experienced before spread throughout her.

Death crept closer, like a chasm opening from the abyss of hell, ready to swallow her whole.

She felt terror, an unprecedented, immense fear—the horrifying shadow cast by death itself.

"I'm going to die."

Linda Danvers let out a silent cry, like someone drowning. The next moment, her consciousness plunged into darkness.

In the noisy, crowded dining room, the sweet girl who had just been roaring with laughter suddenly slumped onto the table, motionless. Her bizarre behavior puzzled everyone.

Luke discreetly made the green flame in his palm disappear. Feigning confusion, he asked,

"Hey! Linda, are you okay?"

"You didn't get drunk, did you? I told you not to drink too much."

After pushing her a few times without a response, he shrugged helplessly. After paying the bill, he carried the girl out on his back. Since Linda had been laughing so hard earlier, everyone assumed Luke and she were a couple. No one stopped him or even asked a question.

Testing the Kryptonian

Half an hour later, in a warehouse in the western suburbs of Metropolis filled with scientific instruments.

Luke placed the unconscious Linda Danvers on a lab table. He took a Browning pistol from the weapons cabinet, aimed it at the girl's head, and pulled the trigger without hesitation.

BANG!

The bullet hit the girl's forehead, instantly ricocheting off, leaving not a single mark.

Luke put down the pistol and picked up an AK-47. Several rounds of 7.62mm bullets later, there was still no effect.

He frowned slightly, rolled over a discarded autocannon, and aimed its thick muzzle at the girl's crown.

BOOM!

The ground shook. The shell ripped through the air, striking her delicate face with terrifying force.

The next moment.

CRASH!

The shell bounced off, punched through the roof, and disappeared. As for the girl, she continued to sleep soundly.

Luke's mouth twitched violently.

"Not even an A-10 autocannon works!"

"It seems physical attack won't do it. Only elemental attacks left."

Luke picked up the girl and carried her over to a furnace. He stripped off her clothes, then paused and left her underwear on.

Deep red flames engulfed the girl's hand. After roasting it for a long time, her skin remained pale and tender, without any sign of scorching.

The temperature began to rise: 800oC….900oC….1200oC….1600oC….2000oC At , there was still no change.

"Fire doesn't work either."

Luke wiped the sweat from his forehead and placed the Kryptonian girl on a platform in the middle of an electromagnetic field.

He turned on the power. Dense currents bombarded her body, appearing as if they would tear her apart.

Luke put on goggles and observed carefully. After a moment, he cranked the voltage to the maximum of 10,000 volts. Thumb-thick currents lashed down like whips.

The air was ionized, and fire even sparked out of nowhere in some places, but her body remained unchanged.

"Holy sh*t!"

Luke clutched his head, his sanity on the verge of breaking.

At this moment, he finally understood why Lex Luthor was so obsessed with Superman. They were all driven to it! When you encounter a BUG like this, what can you do? You can't hurt him, yet he can end your life anytime.

How could anyone's psychology remain normal after prolonged exposure to the terror of death?

It was a miracle they didn't go completely insane.

Physical: No effect! Fire: No effect! Electricity: No effect!

Only water and ice were left among the attacks he could control. Luke shut off the power, threw a random piece of clothing on her, and then tossed the girl into a tub filled with cold water. He started the cryogenic spray and began timing.

One minute, two minutes, three minutes... Half an hour later, he chiseled through the ice and pulled her out.

The result: her skin was even smoother and more hydrated.

He almost forgot, freezing also had a cosmetic effect.

Ten thousand alpacas stampeded through his mind, leaving behind a chorus of "grass mud horse" (a Chinese internet pun for a curse word).

Luke irritably grabbed his hair, pacing back and forth in the room. After a moment, his right hand opened, and the deep green flame briefly flared, then vanished.

"No, if I do that again, I might turn her into an idiot."

"It seems the only things that can cause physical damage to Kryptonians are Kryptonite, Magic, and Red Sun radiation."

"I need to figure out how to get one of those."

Linda Wakes Up

The world of darkness had no boundaries, only the cry of death.

Linda Danvers wandered through it, her thoughts lost and empty. Vaguely, she felt she had encountered something terrible, but she couldn't remember anything specific.

The concept of time blurred. After an unknown duration, the feeling of terror finally disappeared. She opened her eyes and looked around in fear.

A bed, a lamp, a table, a quilt...

"Where is this place?"

"You're finally awake."

Melissa clutched her chest, looking both surprised and relieved. "You scared me to death!"

Linda Danvers stared blankly at the girl by the bed. It took her a while to realize this was her best friend, Melissa Kajean.

"Lisa, how did I get here? My head hurts so much. What happened?"

"It was all you!"

Melissa glared at her friend, speechless. "I don't know what kind of fit you were having, but you jumped into the ocean! If Luke hadn't pulled you out, you would have drowned."

"Jumped into the ocean? Luke?"

Fuzzy images flashed and disappeared, fragmented, as if many things were missing.

She pounded her head hard. The contact between her palm and her forehead made the air hum.

Melissa looked worried. Her friend's state was clearly wrong, like she was having a nervous breakdown.

"Are you okay?"

The Kryptonian girl shook her head, her eyes still hazy. After a while, she said, "How long was I unconscious?"

"Two days and two nights!"

"That long!"

Linda lowered her head in thought, trying to recall past events. As time passed, the memories in her mind grew clearer: images of electric shocks, fire, freezing, drowning, and that young, handsome face.

"Luke Shaw!"

The girl gritted her teeth, a surge of nameless anger rising. She couldn't understand why she was so furious.

Melissa worriedly asked, "You're fine, right? Do you need to see a doctor?"

Linda remained silent, then thought for a moment and asked,

"Were my clothes changed?"

"No!"

"What about my underwear?"

Melissa looked confused. "Are you misunderstanding something? Luke isn't that kind of person."

"Bullsh*t!"

Hearing that name, her anger shot up uncontrollably. She felt that he had done something outrageous to her, but she couldn't remember what.

"No, there must be a problem."

Linda got out of bed and dressed. Two minutes later, she appeared like a god descending upon the ShowMe's HQ.
