A Dinner Fueled by Fury
It was the same Spanish restaurant, and Luke and Linda Danvers resumed their unfinished dinner.
Generally, when a woman is angry, she exhibits four behaviors: One, throwing tantrums; two, silent treatment; three, sarcasm; and four, being unreasonable.
Linda clearly fell into a fifth category: channeling all her rage from her friend's betrayal into the sheer motivation for food. Four-pound roasted lamb legs were consumed one after another. The polished lamb bones piled up on the table, making it look as though they were performing some kind of ritual sacrifice.
The waiters were completely numb, some even feeling the urge to call the police.
The surrounding diners were stunned, pointing and whispering, with some quietly counting...
Is that 15 already?
No, 17.
The restaurant manager walked over, his smile strained.
"Sir, your..."
Luke pulled out a black card. "My friend is in a bad mood, I apologize for the trouble. Bring us ten more roasted lamb legs."
The manager was about to refuse, but his expression changed when he saw the gold pattern and the image of a human head on the black card.
"Yes, sir. Please wait a moment."
He respectfully placed the black card down and turned to leave.
Linda Danvers put down a lamb bone, curious. "What was that?"
"A Black Gold Card. It's something that highlights one's status and position. With this, the owner won't dare to kick me out."
The girl pouted. "Boring things."
She then went back to eating.
Luke didn't stop her. If the food ran out, he just called the waiter. As the bones on the table were about to form a small mountain, he couldn't help but advise,
"All this food won't hurt your body, will it?"
"I'll eat as much as I want!"
"Alright, fine."
Luke shrugged. Trying to reason with an enraged girl was like talking to a brick wall. He simply called the waiter over. "Bring twenty more plates of roast meat."
The waiter said awkwardly,
"Sir, there's no more meat left in the cold storage. Would you like to order something else? Our cake rolls are very good."
"Bring ten plates of cake rolls."
The waiter nodded slightly and left. Before leaving, he gave Linda Danvers a deep look filled with complex emotions.
Legend said that the children of Nordic giants and forest dryads possessed human appearances and the strength of giants. They could eat three cows in one meal and punch through stone walls.
Could this girl possess the bloodline of the Nordic royal family?
The waiter quickly generated a host of wild ideas in his mind until the manager kicked him in the butt, snapping him back to reality.
The Job Offer and the Great Escape
After eating a few plates of cake rolls, Linda Danvers finally stopped. She wiped the grease from the corner of her mouth with a napkin and said expressionlessly,
"Why did you help me?"
Luke scanned the remaining customers in the restaurant. "Let's go somewhere else. This isn't the right place to talk."
Linda raised her hand and slammed it against the wall.
BOOM!
The concrete wall exploded as if hit by a cannon shell, creating a hole two meters wide. The shockwave radiated outward, kicking up dust.
The scene instantly fell silent, followed immediately by screams of terror. Diners fled frantically. Within moments, only a few people remained in the huge restaurant.
"Now we can talk."
Luke let out a long sigh. He tossed the black card to the terrified restaurant manager, assuring him he would pay for the damages. Then he spoke.
"I know you're upset, so I won't waste words. I helped you for one reason only: I want you to be my private assistant."
"You're asking to die!"
"I'm serious."
Luke's expression was utterly solemn. "You saw ShowMe's job posting. Out of the over a thousand applicants, you are the only one who meets the qualifications. I have no other choice."
Linda sneered. "Since you helped me once, I'll let this slide. Remember this: do not bring up the private assistant job again. I will never be your secretary."
"Fine."
Luke shrugged, unsurprised by her answer. He changed the subject. "What are you going to do next?"
Linda was silent for a few seconds. "Can you help me find Superman?"
"No problem!"
"Really?"
Luke nodded. "But before that, you have to agree to one thing."
"What is it?"
"Be my private assistant."
Linda: "..."
"I just told you not to bring up the private assistant job again."
The icy words held an undisguised threat. Luke chuckled dismissively.
"You say what you want, and I'll do what I want. I'm not your slave; why should I obey your orders?"
"Miss Danvers—no, Miss El—take my advice. Act discreetly. Earth is far more complex than you imagine. Your body may be invincible, but your soul is not. There are too many forces in this world that can kill you."
He stood up, adjusting his clothes.
"Since you're not interested in the job, there's no need for us to keep talking. Don't worry about the restaurant; I'll handle the damage. And, be careful of the FBI; they're still watching you."
After settling the compensation agreement with the manager, Luke walked out of the restaurant and disappeared.
Linda didn't stop him. Looking at the deserted hall, a huge sense of emptiness suddenly rose in her heart.
My adoptive parents were spies. My best friend betrayed me. My only blood relative is missing...
Earth was vast, yet there was no one she cared about, and nowhere she could truly belong.
Her existence here was meaningless.
She walked out of the restaurant in a daze. Under the terrified gazes of the staff, she leaped up, disappearing into the night sky like an arrow. Two seconds later, the sound of a sonic boom traveled from a distance.
A certain country's satellite camera suddenly picked up an unidentified flying object. The object rushed toward it at extreme speed. The next second, the signal vanished.
On an island in Somalia, a group of pirates was dealing with captives. A red light beam suddenly shot down from the sky. Over a dozen pirates, along with their captives, were instantly incinerated into ash by the beam.
In Antarctica, the ice split open, and a figure rushed out, flailing their fists like a madwoman against an iceberg. Amidst terrifying shockwaves, the ancient, colossal iceberg tilted and shattered into countless chunks of ice.
Startled penguins scattered, diving into the sea. Survey workers in the distance watched, wide-eyed, stunned by the destruction before them.
The Final Confrontation
Betrayed by her best friend, Linda had transformed into a destroyer. Wherever she went, she left chaos and ruin.
The next morning, having vented most of her anger, Linda Danvers returned to her Metropolis residence.
The main door to the room was open. A middle-aged white man in a suit sat on the sofa, wearing black-rimmed glasses and a very serious expression.
"Ms. El, we need to..."
The girl didn't bother to listen. She flashed forward, grabbed the middle-aged man, and the other FBI agents hiding in the bathroom and bedroom, and threw them all out the window.
Seven men simultaneously plummeted to the ground, their desperate screams echoing throughout the apartment complex.
