A Familiar Foe
"Professor, is this framework... problematic?"
Angus Neal stared intensely at the drafting paper. Suddenly inspired, he pushed through the crowd, pulled out his laptop, and began building a data model. As he entered various data points, a completely new, never-before-seen engine took shape.
Unfortunately, even with a three-dimensional model, he still couldn't understand it!
Frustrated, he gave up on understanding the overall concept and began scrutinizing the principles and operations of the individual components. As the discussion deepened, a feeling of "seeing the blue sky after pushing away the clouds" slowly emerged.
Everyone was enlightened, feeling as if the door to a new world was opening before them. In their excitement, they slapped their thighs and laughed boisterously.
Luke opened his eyes and said coldly,
"What are you making all that noise for? Can't a guy get some sleep?"
The crowd immediately fell silent. At Angus's signal, they grabbed their respective tools and hurried into the innermost lounge. As soon as they entered, they noticed a faint, musky scent, but they ignored it, gathering around the computer to discuss excitedly.
It had to be admitted that, purely from the perspective of scientific workers, they were quite dedicated!
The Green Lantern's Debut
As ShowMe expanded, the superhero column unexpectedly became a focal point of public attention. People loved discussing the vigilantes hidden in the cities, and superheroes became synonymous with major metropolitan areas.
Examples included Batman of Gotham, Superman of Metropolis, Kid Flash of Central City, and Stargirl of Blue Valley.
Today, Coast City, located on the American West Coast, welcomed its own superhero. A guy glowing green rescued a cruise ship caught in a storm and later helped the police apprehend criminals robbing an armored car.
The news report caused a huge reaction. Soon, the name Green Lantern appeared in the ShowMe superhero column, generating heated discussion among Coast City users.
Luke only heard the news at dinner. After watching the "Green Lantern" report, he shook his head with a sense of inevitability.
Truly worthy of being a candidate for the Plane's Son (protagonist). To receive a treasure like the Green Lantern Ring at his most degenerate moment was like a protagonist in a wuxia novel who, even after having his limbs broken by his father's killer and tossed off a cliff, still manages to drag his broken body out of an old ape's stomach with the supreme martial arts manual left by an ancient master.
What is destiny? This is destiny.
Carol leaned against Luke, her expression somewhat strange.
"His ability seems to be the same as mine?"
Luke nodded. "You can both conjure objects out of thin air. The difference is that the objects he creates are green, and yours are purple."
"Also, he has a ring on his hand."
The girl was stunned. She quickly opened the video. Sure enough, the Green Lantern wore a uniquely styled ring on his right middle finger. It was very similar to her ring, but with subtle differences.
A thought struck Carol, and her expression grew serious.
"Could he be the mysterious person who's been speaking in my head?"
"You previously said the voice in your head was female. He is a man."
"Is it possible to change the voice?"
"It's possible, but..." Luke thought for a few seconds, deciding not to reveal the Green Lantern's identity yet. "He appears to be an Earthling."
The mysterious person comes from the planet Zamaron. As an alien, her appearance should differ greatly from an Earthling's.
Realizing this, Carol suddenly became disheartened. She hugged Luke's arm and whispered,
"She hasn't shown up yet, so she must be preparing something. I'm genuinely worried about being controlled by her. If I were under her control and I did..."
"It's alright."
Luke gripped her shoulders to comfort her. "Trust me. Within a couple of days, she will reveal herself. When that happens, I'll catch her tail, destroy everything the Zamarons have on Earth, and make them vanish from your life forever."
"Thank you, Luke. I don't know what I would do without you."
"My pleasure."
Luke captured her hand and placed it down below. Their eyes met, and the temperature quickly rose. Just as they were about to rekindle their fiery passion, the phone rang. It was Tony Wu.
Luke irritably hit the answer button, and a miserable voice came through.
"Boss, it's bad! That bastard, the Green Lantern, he... he... damn it, he came to our headquarters while you were gone, and he beat me, Wang Hu, Dio, Danny, and a dozen other brothers! He even let go of the loose ends we needed to take care of."
Luke's face instantly hardened. He said grimly,
"Where are you now?"
"Edward Hospital."
"What's the casualty count?"
"Everyone is badly injured, but no life-threatening wounds."
Luke slightly relaxed. He said heavily, "Stay in the hospital. Rest up. I'm on my way."
He hung up, put on his clothes, and headed out, with Carol following quickly behind.
Confronting the Aftermath
The two drove to Edward Hospital. Tony was waiting right by the entrance. Upon seeing Luke, he quickly turned his head away.
Luke looked him up and down.
"Where did you get hurt?"
Tony reluctantly turned his purple-and-blue right cheek toward Luke and said shamefully, "I tried to control him, but that bastard suddenly conjured a gigantic green fist and knocked me unconscious with one punch."
"Boss, I'm sorry. I disgraced you."
Luke patted his shoulder. "I'll make sure you get back every bit of the beating you took." He then pointed to Carol beside him. "Call her Big Sister-in-Law."
"Big Sister-in-Law!"
Tony bowed deeply. He covered his right cheek and chuckled. "I've known about you for a long time. The daughter of the Ferris Aircraft CEO, combining beauty and intelligence—you and the Boss are a perfect match, like a wolf pairing with a fierce leopard."
Luke kicked him.
"Watch your language!"
"My mistake, my mistake." Tony's cheeks flushed. He quickly waved his hands. "Not a wolf and a leopard! A talented man and a beautiful woman! A talented man and a beautiful woman!"
Carol smiled, pulling a business card from her purse.
"If you ever have any problems, call me. I'll make sure they get sorted."
"You bet!"
Tony happily took the card. "Big Sister-in-Law is Big Sister-in-Law. You're generous!"
"Alright."
Luke commanded impatiently, "Lead the way."
Tony quickly tucked the business card into his jacket pocket and led the two toward the hospital's second floor.
The corridor on the second floor was filled with members of the Young Master's Gang. Some had injured arms, others injured heads, and a few leaned on crutches. Upon seeing Luke, they quickly stood up, their lips trembling, and lowered their heads in shame.
The Young Master's Gang was not a traditional gang; there were no mere rabble. Only elite fighters. Under Luke's unique training methods, every member of the gang was worth ten men. Combined with various high-tech equipment, their fighting power multiplied, allowing just over a hundred men to sweep aside the major gangs of Coast City and become the absolute bosses of the underworld.
With so many victories, their mentality was inevitably affected. In their eyes, "Jesus is first in this world, the Boss is second, and we are third." They never imagined they would one day be completely routed by a guy glowing green.
