Cherreads

Chapter 82 - Chapter 82 - The Battle For Uzushiogakure (3)

There was no time to argue, which was fortunate, because Genta looked ready to do a lot of it, but Minato threw out the first kunai already. It left his hand in a blur as he put everything into that throw with a burst of chakra released through his fingertips at the final moment. Still, it began losing speed right beneath the barrier, but that was okay. Using Hiraishin, I reappeared beside the kunai in a flash, and for one dizzying instant, I saw everything lit up as a lightning jutsu hit the red barrier just above me. It was both scary and beautiful at the same time. However, I wasn't wasting any second, and I just grabbed Minato's kunai from the air, while also twisting my body, and threw one of the others out. It passed the barrier with no resistance.

"Go!" I yelled, already beginning to fall, but Minato was already there, throwing out the third one. "Now!" I inhaled, and we both vanished at the same time as we reappeared next to the final kunai at the same moment, while the middle one fell down, being the one that would mark our landing position. If we could get back with Hirashin, but I wasn't thinking about that at the moment. Not when we were exactly where we had to be, right under one of the clay birds.

Glancing up, I saw five shinobi riding on its back while one of them had both hands pressed against a seal carved into the bird's neck, feeding chakra into the construct, probably also how he was controlling it. It wasn't as sophisticated as what Deidara would come up with in the future, but that just made our job easier.

Naturally, they noticed the impact when we 'crashed' into their bird. All five stared at us, unable to say or do anything, and to be fair, two kids appearing from empty air hundreds of meters above an active battlefield was probably confusing. Naturally, we didn't give them time to understand it, and my Sharingan was already spinning. Jumping up, we quickly landed on the top of the birds while I also turned in the air, pulled my fist back, and flooded it with chakra as fire gathered around my knuckles, and I hit the bird in the back of the neck.

With a resounding explosion, the clay cracked like glass and then collapsed, exploding like I just hit a simple jug or something. Maybe I should rename myself to Link, huh? I heard the controlling shinobi scream from the backlash, while another tried to form hand seals as they fell, with no idea what to do. They probably thought we would die with them, too, but Minato had already flicked three other kunai out, and I was locking onto them.

Flash!

We appeared on the second bird, choosing the same target once again, yet we didn't even coordinate with each other. Minato went toward the 'pilot,' while I attacked the wing, not giving the people on them any chance to react. The pilot tried to turn, but he was too slow, and Minato struck him behind the ear, caught him before he could fall, and used his body as a shield when another of the shinobi aboard threw a cluster of shuriken at him. At the same moment, I landed on the wing, ready to stomp down and release another fiery explosion from under my heel.

As I was doing that, the shuriken-throwing shinobi now hurled a metal rod carrying a crackling Lightning Release charge directly at Minato, who survived his initial attack. He should have targeted me, because as a dodge, Minato just disappeared, already heading towards another bird. At the same moment, I broke this one's wing, sending it spiraling down, and blinked away myself, towards my new target.

I could see that when Minato reappeared beside his own kunai embedded in another clay bird's body, he kicked the controlling user in the ribs hard enough to throw him off the construct. When I reappeared, someone was already ready, as I ducked beneath a swordsman's swing while his lightning blade sliced a few millimeters above my scalp, shaving off part of my hair. Ouch! Oi! Watch it! I'm not ready to go bald! Shit... That was a close one! As an answer, trying to age me like that, I drove an elbow into his stomach, caught his wrist, and threw him over my shoulder as he vanished over the edge without making a sound.

By then, though, they caught on, and an Earth Release user slammed his palm onto the clay bird I was standing on. I watched as stone spread over its surface, armoring it against our assault. Smart, but not entirely, because he looked into my eyes and his hands stopped moving. It wasn't a complicated genjutsu; I just made sure he thought the bird was tilting in the wrong direction, and his body reacted automatically, driving straight towards the barrier. Bye-bye!

There was another flash by the time it crashed into the Uzumaki's barrier, and we both appeared on the same bird further away, attacking both the creature and wreaking havoc amongst the confused shinobi atop it. That's how it went for the next few seconds. If they were way too prepared, we immediately blinked away, as Minato kept marking the birds, allowing us to flash between them like we were the balls inside a pinball machine.

Naturally, it had its effect as the enemy formation dissolved into utter and complete confusion. They had not prepared for two shinobi teleporting from bird to bird, appearing inside their lines, destroying their transports, and vanishing before anyone could organize a proper counterattack. And what could they do? Fire randomly? Attack their own birds? The most they saw were flashes, and that was not enough to react. By the time they registered one yellow streak thanks to Minato's hair or a black one, thanks to mine, the result was still the same as bodies fell to their deaths.

Of course, with their numbers thinning, it couldn't go on forever. But I was making sure it would be a glorious achievement!

One moment, I appeared beside one bird's head and drove my heel through its eye with a boom as the clay cracked around my leg, giving out a thundering noise. Then, before the riders could stab me, I teleported to a kunai Minato had thrown toward another bird and left them shouting at empty air. At the same time, I landed shoulder-first on the next construct, rolled, and released a burst of fire directly at the gawking shinobi.

They resisted it, but my target never really was any of them. I just hardened the clay wings until they glowed orange, then exploded outward. Well, cracked, really, but that was just semantics; the result was that they fell down again. Just before disappearing, I watched as one of the shinobis managed to leap toward a neighboring bird, but to his luck, Minato appeared between them. He caught the man by the vest, turned with his momentum, and hurled him downward. Poor bastard.

As for how many of them truly splashed down, I wasn't counting. I still caught that some of the Iwa shinobi summoned flat clay discs beneath themselves, doing their best to use them to land on and then slide down the barrier's surface. It was a very hard landing, but it could mean surviving, so they had no other option. Others used Earth Release to create gliding slabs, however laughable it was, that managed to carry them out towards the waters or something. It... didn't really work, I think. Similarly, the Kumo shinobi fired metal wires toward nearby birds, trying to hang on, as several of their people swung beneath surviving birds while their comrades pulled them up.

However, they were worse off than the others, so a few of them simply accepted the fall and began firing jutsu down at the dome, apparently deciding that if they were going to die, they might as well make themselves useful first. Not much use, if you ask me, because the dome blocked their attacks, and then they passed through the barrier without resistance, striking rooftops or cliffsides with a crunch.

Human bullets weren't that much of a use...

At some point, I lost count of how many birds we had destroyed. Ten? Fifteen? More? Was I now a mass murdering war criminal? Probably, but for some reason, I didn't feel bad about it. Maybe it would hit me later, but at the moment, my adrenaline was pumping, and I was never this focused, ever. Scanning the enemy, their aerial force had looked endless when I first saw them, but now enormous gaps appeared in its formation. At the same time, clay fragments rained down across the dome while the surviving birds pulled away from one another, panicking, totally losing their cool. Their riders' heads were like a pinwheel in a storm as they looked everywhere, all at once, terrified that one of us would appear out of thin air.

Their entire assault had ground to a halt; nobody was firing jutsus down at the dome now, everyone just watching and waiting, while we were currently hanging from the underbelly of a bird, catching our breath.

"What now?" I gasped, regulating my breathing.

"It was your idea," Minato said as he did the same, glancing at me with one eye, but smiling. "You tell me."

The enemy chose that moment to figure us out, kind of. They noticed us, I think, as three lightning bolts struck at us once, but we were already away, causing their strike to simply disintegrate their ally's bird. I guess they were never told of watching their crossfire! However, they figured something else out, too, because they began destroying the kunai we were throwing out. I just flashed to one, right before it got disintegrated in a lightning strike, forcing me to hurriedly blink away to a mark Minato left on another bird we didn't destroy. Good thing many of them he just touched, exactly for this reason.

"They finally began watching the kunai!" Minato yelled from somewhere.

"I noticed!"

By then, the surviving birds changed formation, too, as they spread apart vertically and horizontally, creating empty kill zones between them. As a distraction, Minato threw two kunai in opposite directions, and while they were struck, we flashed to a bird, together, disappearing from view once again.

I couldn't tell for how long we could keep it up, though, but... Soon it will be over, and we will have to go back down.

"Oh... Not good..." Minato whispered as our bird changed its course.

"Yeah..." I nodded, looking down, watching the transformation.

The birds formed three circles around the island, and the highest group remained above the clouds, controlling the battle from a safe distance, acting as surveyors. The middle ring, which the bird we clung to belonged to, was probably the main attacking group, while the lowest one spread wide, watching for our kunai and preparing to intercept us if we appeared.

"So...?" He asked, looking at me, "Ideas?"

"One," I muttered, an idea forming in my mind, as I felt my Sharingan draw on my previous knowledge. It wasn't copying a jutsu I saw in the show... well... Kind of. I mean, the effect, if I can replicate it, would be the same, but it would happen because I remember the physics behind it. And... could I do it? I don't know, but... Why not try it? We are already in the middle of hell anyway.

"So?" He asked, nudging me.

"Throw a kunai back down," I told him, "See if you can send it back through the barrier."

"I can." He said, "I already tried it the moment we were out."

"Good... Then you go back down."

"Huh?!" He flinched.

"Do it." I said, inhaling deeply as my Sharingan began rotating and chakra began gathering in my body, "I'll need you to catch me if I go unconscious."

"What are you trying to do...?"

"Even I don't know." I chortled, "But I guess I am creating an actual supernova this time around."

And with that, I was already forming a sun in my palm, brighter than anything I managed to throw out until that day.
