Victor's POV
I sat in my study that afternoon, supposedly reviewing the reports my secretary had emailed me on my system. But the numbers blurred together, meaningless. My mind was elsewhere.
On her.
On Emily.
On the way she'd looked at me this morning when she thought I'd abandoned her. The panic in her eyes, quickly replaced by relief. The way my robe had swallowed her small frame, making her look young and vulnerable and utterly beautiful.
I couldn't stop thinking about last night. About how complete I'd felt with her in my arms, how the emptiness that had lived in my chest for five years had suddenly, impossibly, felt less vast.
This wasn't supposed to happen.
I pressed my fingers to my temples, a headache building behind my eyes. I'd hired her. Married her under contract. Set clear boundaries that we'd both agreed to follow. And now...
Now I was sitting here like a lovesick fool, replaying every moment.
