But things were far from what Ross expected.
Blonsky was still tracking Banner, moving silently through the dense forest for over an hour. The target was clearly exhausted, physically drained.
In just ten more minutes, they could capture him alive.
Ahead, an open field awaited. Once Banner was driven there, the team could easily take the shot.
Banner felt panic rise within him. He wanted to transform into the Hulk to escape this predicament—but the "drug" Xu Dan had given him was far too potent. His heartbeat raced to nearly 120, yet there was no sign of transformation.
"Oh God… what am I going to do? What am I going to do?" he muttered, despair washing over him.
Even though Xu Dan had reassured him that capture wouldn't be fatal, Banner refused to be caught.
Now he felt utterly powerless, as if his feet were floating on clouds, unable to gain any traction.
He glanced back. The soldiers were closing in. Each step closer filled him with dread.
"Stop! Or I'll shoot! Save yourself, buddy!"
Blonsky's calm, seasoned voice reached him from behind. For a veteran like him, long-distance tracking was trivial, and he still had plenty of energy.
Banner had no choice but to run as fast as his body allowed. But Blonsky was a skilled tracker. Noticing Banner's slight falter, he dropped his own gun and surged forward.
In an instant, he closed the distance and kicked Banner to the ground.
Normally, the kick would have been harmless—but Banner's legs were already exhausted. He flew a few meters, rolling helplessly across the forest floor.
"Dude, I told you not to resist!" Blonsky sneered. Compared to his soldiers, he felt superior, almost untouchable.
Banner glared, furious. Under normal circumstances, he would have torn Blonsky apart on the spot. But now, with the drug suppressing him, he could do nothing.
"Why, you want to kill me with your eyes?" Blonsky laughed, then waved to the squad behind him. "Carry him back!"
Then he noticed something unusual. A soldier, gun raised, hesitated.
"Hey, what are you doing?" Blonsky barked.
"Back!" the soldier called.
Blonsky spun around—and froze.
Not far ahead, a man in a flowing robe appeared, holding a book. He looked like a priest, but no priest would be wandering this remote forest.
Instantly alert, Blonsky signaled his team.
The next moment, a hail of tranquilizer rounds streaked toward the newcomer.
Normally, those bullets would have incapacitated any adult male with a single shot. But this man—Goenitz—simply raised a hand.
A powerful gust of wind blew the bullets back toward the soldiers.
Snap!
The anesthesia rounds ricocheted off the air and struck the firing soldiers, knocking them to the ground.
Blonsky's eyes widened in disbelief.
He had always lived in a scientific world—humans, no matter how strong, could not deflect bullets with a wave of the hand.
Was this magic?
"Step back," Goenitz said calmly.
But Blonsky felt as if his feet were glued to the ground, paralyzed with fear.
Goenitz raised his hand again. A blast of wind, like a cannon, struck Blonsky head-on.
Rumble!
Blonsky's body soared through the air like a kite with a snapped string, crashing heavily into the forest. His fate remained unknown.
Only then did Goenitz turn his attention to Banner, still on the ground.
"Mr. Banner, I am here to rescue you on the Lord's command."
Banner was no stranger to superpowers—his own transformation into the Hulk was proof enough. But the mention of a "Lord" startled him.
It was obvious: the so-called Lord was Xu Dan.
In this age, who could still be called "Lord"?
And for someone like Goenitz—a superpowered being—to call him that… Banner's curiosity surged.
Could Xu Dan himself possess superpowers?
It made sense. How else could he produce a drug capable of completely suppressing the Hulk's transformation?
A surge of trust and admiration welled up in Banner's chest. Even with the suppression, he was still a monster at heart. Yet here he was, in the company of someone capable of controlling this situation.
Banner drew himself up, straightened his posture, and smiled politely at Goenitz.
"Thank you… for saving me."
"Mr. Banner need not thank me. It is all arranged by the Lord," Goenitz replied, his tone full of unwavering loyalty.
Banner couldn't help feeling a twinge of envy.
"Alright… then let's go see Mr. Xu Dan. But we can't pass through over there—General Ross's convoy is still in the area."
Goenitz glanced toward the convoy, unconcerned. He reached out, and an invisible gust of wind lifted Banner's sixty-kilogram frame into the air.
"What… what is this?" Banner stared at his body in disbelief.
If this was Goenitz's superpower, it was enviable beyond words. He would trade his own Hulk transformation in a heartbeat… if only he could.
Without further explanation, Goenitz used the wind to carry Banner low over the treetops, flying toward the United States.
Cross-border flights? Passports? Those were trivialities.
At this speed, nothing could stop them.
