Captain George Stacy was about to make a call into his microphone when a spider web suddenly blocked his path. Spider-Man suddenly landed on the roof of his car, denting it.

"I'm sorry in advance for this," he said, before hitting him with a spider web and throwing him into the car behind him.

The other cops quickly turned to Spider- Man , but he was already about to jump. Webs shot from his hands, tying arms to cars, jamming guns, and sticking them to the cops. But the cops still managed to get off their shots. Connecting his webs to the walls, Spider- Man used them to shift positions in mid-air, easily dodging round after round. He landed in the center of a group of uniformed cops. One suddenly fell to the ground, and Spider- Man webbed him up. At the same time, he snatched a shotgun from one man and used it to bludgeon the man next to him. Then, he webbed the man holding the shotgun, trapping him in the front of his car. Two more cops pointed their guns at Spider- Man 's head and closed in—a mistake. He ducked, tripping one, then jumped onto the other's shoulders. From the elevated position, he distracted the police with bursts of webs and lines.

Angel swooped down, firing his pellet gun. Smoke drifted away from the patrol cars, but with a couple of flaps, Angel caught them in clouds of gas. Upon landing, Angel pinned the men against the gas with his wings, lifted others and held them in the air, before tossing them into the gas as well. He landed and snapped a rifle in half with his wing, screaming in pain before slamming a right cross into the man's face. Taking flight again, he fired his pellet gun again and again, covering his end of the street in gas.

"Much better, Warren," Scott thought, as if judging his performance.

Together, Angel and Spider-Man had drawn a straight line from the apartment alleys to the alley Scott intended to use as an escape route. Nodding to Todd and his mother, he ran forward, his hand on his visor. Spider-Man and Angel jumped and flew above them, respectively, to check on them. The masked man gave them a thumbs-up.

Captain Stacy had managed to escape from his trapped and distracted men. He saw what he assumed to be Todd Tolansky , his mother, and a young man wearing a yellow and black suit identical to the Angel's.

"STOP RIGHT THERE!" he shouted, pointing his gun at them.

They were already in the alley, and the young man lifted a manhole cover with great effort. Then the shot rang out, but it wasn't George who fired the shot.

"MOM!" Todd shouted.

The young man in a suit and George watched in shock. A bullet had passed through Mrs. Tolansky 's side , spilling blood onto the ground. They both looked up and saw a reflection on the rooftop. Stacy aimed her gun at the shooter, but the masked man fired a red burst from his eyes. The shot had missed its target because Stacy saw the man roll away from the blast.

"Agents, we have an unknown shooter on the rooftop of the building next to the northeast of the apartment. Maria Tolansky fired. She, her son, and an unknown man have gone into the sewers," George explained quickly, returning to his men. "SNIPER! TAKE COVER!" he shouted.

Warren heard the police captain shouting to his men. He scanned the rooftops and noticed someone in a black and purple suit using one of the fire escapes. He was about to give chase when he felt something strike him in the air. At first it was harmless, like a flea bite. But suddenly, Warren felt as if volts of electricity were being injected into his body. His wings twitched uncontrollably, as if in a spasm. Then he fell, straight into Spider-Man's arms.

"Keep your men back, Captain," said a voice over the radio.

From across the neighborhood, the shooter lowered his rifle, and the muzzle glow faded. He was a young man with black hair, dressed in military fatigues. In front of him was an African American man in a similar uniform, though he also wore sunglasses and a cowboy hat. Next to him was a blond man with elongated ears and a dog-like nose. Next to him was a man with gray chest armor and a gray mask over his eyes, which left his brown hair exposed. However, the man who had spoken on the radio was wearing a vest with shoulder pads and the MRD symbol on the chest. He was a man in his forties, with his brown hair completely shaved and a disciplined, authoritative presence, appropriate as he led the men out of the armored trucks behind him.

MRD X- Force unit . "We 'll take care of the rest!"
