Chapter 38 - Chapter 38:

He smirked as the Sentry regained his sight and looked at Beast and Iceman. The Sentry raised his hands, ready to annihilate them. However, Trask gasped as a substance coated the Sentry's main chamber. Spider-Man landed on the Sentry's head and punched it out.

"Oh, giant death robots aren't what they used to be," he said, shaking his head. "Your boss wanted you to have this; black's not my color anyway." He tossed Beast and Iceman the items Xavier had asked him to retrieve.

Trask tapped his foot impatiently as the technicians tried to regain control of the Sentinel. With a few commands, they managed to get the Sentinel to remove the webbing from its face.

"Begin scanning for mutant activity," he ordered.

The Sentinel turned his head, blinking. Trask was surprised to see no X-gene detection marker on Spider-Man. The Sentinel left the masked vigilante alone and continued the search for the escaped mutants. There were two readings nearby.

"What happened to the other two?" one of the crew members asked, much to Trask 's annoyance .

"Instead of asking obvious questions, FIND THE ANSWERS!" he shouted.

On the street, Stryker saw four fully uniformed MRD officers walk past the cordons and smiled.

Wraith began , but stopped when Stryker shook his head.

"If Trask wants to take charge of the mutant response, then he can accept responsibility when the mutants get out of hand. Besides, these people did their best to keep people safe. At least right now, they're not a threat... for now," Stryker emphasized , and Wraith nodded in understanding.

Charles rolled onto the street, taking a deep breath and sighing with relief. As he expected, his X- Men wearing MRD uniforms prevented the Sentinels from detecting them. He had read certain details of Stryker 's mind and believed the soldier had allowed himself access to that information. Stryker had a high resistance to telepathy, but Charles sensed at least good intentions from him.

"Once you've reached a safe distance, remove your uniforms, change into civilian clothes, and meet at the safe house," Charles told his X- Men . "Sage, I'm going into telepathic silence; I suspect they've found a way to track my psychic waves."

" As you wish Charles, I will wait 2 hours before making telepathic contact again! "

Feeling his former psychic student presence leaving him, Charles continued across the street. He had borrowed the coat of a fellow veteran he met in the alley, without needing any telepathic coaxing. It obscured his uniform and allowed him to cross the street undisturbed. Watching the path, Charles blinked and squinted, noticing a person he could see in the distance. The man was wearing a red turtleneck sweater and a brown jacket that hugged his muscular frame. Leather gloves covered his hands, and a fedora partially covered his face. When Charles got close enough, he could see the streaks of white hair on his head.

A scream alerted Charles, who turned his head and saw pedestrians running at full speed. One knocked him out of his wheelchair, and it was then that Charles understood why they were running. The Sentinel landed on the street and began advancing toward him. He raised his hand; the circle in his palm glowed. Charles braced himself, afraid only that his mission would be over before it began. Then he heard a deep vibration, followed by the crunch of metal. The Sentinel's hand was suddenly crushed, and he stepped back. Slowly, his head began to shrink, as if he were watching a tin can being crushed in slow motion. It was as if a hand had formed over the Sentinel's head and squeezed until it was completely crushed. Charles looked at the stranger and saw that the man had raised his hand, forming a fist. He offered that same hand to Charles and revealed his face, slightly older than Charles's, hardened, but with a kind smile. The face of a man Charles had known before, and even called brother.

"Hello, old friend," said Max 'Magnus' Eisenhardt .
