Chapter 88 - Chapter 88 — A Gift of Trouble

Chapter 88 — A Gift of Trouble

Bai Xia was still feeling proud of herself after teasing Fu Jian into a complete fluster, but that confidence shattered the moment she saw him turn toward the door.

He's really leaving??

Panic rushed up her throat. She didn't expect him to misunderstand to that extent. Who knew this man—this cold, elegant, self-controlled demon—would secretly be so dirty-minded?

"Wait—brother Jian!" she blurted, darting forward.

Before he could take another step, she pulled out a small package from who-knows-where and practically shoved it toward him. She stood in front of him like a tiny, nervous wall.

"This is what I got for you," she said quickly, voice soft. "Please don't… hate it."

Fu Jian stared at the box, then at her flushed face.

For a moment he wanted to hit himself. So all his wild thoughts—those dangerous, uncontrollable impulses—were pointless. She had only wanted to give him a gift.

A slow, relieved breath escaped him.

If she had insisted on anything more, he genuinely didn't know if he could refuse her. His self-control had been tested enough today.

He took the box gently. "You bought something for me?"

"I really liked the gift you gave me before," Bai Xia said, lips curving into a shy yet proud smile. "So when I saw this, I thought of you."

Fu Jian opened the box.

Inside lay a sleek, matte-black wristwatch. Simple. Sharp. Handsome. A watch that matched him far too well.

He felt something warm tug at his chest.

"I like it very much," he said honestly.

Bai Xia's face lit up immediately. "It's good you like it. I put a lot of effort into choosing it."

Then—her eyes narrowed mischievously.

"Brother Jian," she said with a sly smile, "why don't you give me a little kiss as a reward?"

Fu Jian froze.

The watch in his hand felt as heavy as a brick.

His throat tightened.

His recently regained calm snapped like a string.

A kiss?

Her reward?

Did she… did she know what she was doing to him?

He looked closer at her expression.

That sly smile…

Those bright teasing eyes…

She was messing with him.

This was revenge for the car incident.

He inhaled slowly.

"Are you sure you want me to?" he asked, voice low. "I don't believe in just kissing."

Bai Xia instantly stiffened.

Her words jammed in her throat.

This stinky man! Shameless!

She fought to keep her face calm. "Fine then! Come with me to collect materials. You'll be my guard today."

Fu Jian blinked. "Materials?"

"Yes. Jade." Bai Xia crossed her arms. "And you'll have to lose the suit. Get something low-profile."

"Could you help me with that?"

Without hesitation, Bai Xia grabbed her phone.

"Stella, bring some clothes for Fu Jian."

Five minutes later, Stella arrived carrying a stack of simple clothing.

"Stella," Bai Xia added, "tell Bai Xuan to get ready and come to my office."

"Yes, ma'am." Stella set down the clothes and left.

Fu Jian took the folded stack and, without a second thought, set it aside… then reached for the buttons of his suit jacket.

"What are you doing?" Bai Xia gasped.

"I'm changing," he said casually.

"Don't you see the dressing room over there?!"

Fu Jian paused. A slow sly smile crept over his lips.

Ah. His turn to tease.

"I feel guilty," he murmured, leaning close enough for only her to hear. "After seeing your…"

"Stop—Fu Jian!!" Bai Xia's face turned crimson. "I don't want to see anything! Go away!"

Fu Jian chuckled—light, low, far too dangerous.

"Alright," he said. "I won't tease you on this matter. I'll change in the room."

He disappeared inside.

Bai Xia let out a long breath.

This man… he was definitely becoming more dangerous.

A moment later, Bai Xuan walked into the office. She had already changed into plain clothes like Bai Xia.

"Xia'er, when are we leaving?" she asked.

"I want you to meet someone first."

Just as Bai Xia spoke, the door to the side room opened.

Fu Jian stepped out.

His black hoodie fit him too well, the sleeves rolled slightly to reveal strong, elegant wrists. His jeans were simple, but on him they looked striking.

He and Bai Xia looked like a rural couple heading to the city for errands—except his quiet aura made him stand out no matter what he wore.

"Brother Jian," Bai Xia said with a straight face. "This is Bai Xuan, my elder sister."

Fu Jian nodded politely and extended his hand.

Bai Xuan did the same.

But before they could shake—

Bai Xia dropped a bomb.

"Bai Xuan," she announced calmly, "this is Fu Jian.

My boyfriend."

Everything froze.

Fu Jian: "…"

Bai Xuan: "…"

Even the air seemed to pause.

Bai Xuan's eyes flew wide open.

"What?—"

Her voice cracked in pure shock.

Fu Jian nearly choked on the air.

Bai Xia only smiled sweetly.
