Chapter 47 - Chapter 47: The keyword: fingerprints

"Director Ochiai, this is a murder case. Please cooperate until the police arrive."

"No problem, I'll seal this place off immediately."

Director Ochiai quickly asked Iijima to seal the room.

"Heiji, the gloves," Kazuha handed them to him.

After putting on the gloves, Heiji began to examine Manaka's body: "The blood hasn't clotted yet, the time of death is no more than twenty minutes. The fatal wound was this stab to the heart, he died from blood loss."

"Kazuha, what are you doing?"

Seeing Kazuha to one side, writing and drawing in a notebook, Sonoko couldn't help but ask with curiosity.

"Kazuha is taking notes so that when the police arrive, they can use them as a reference," Ran had seen Kogoro Mouri do this several times.

"Wow, Kazuha is so amazing," Sonoko said with envy.

Ran nodded. She would also like to be like Kazuha, but that Shinichi was never willing to teach her, considering her a burden. She felt a little disheartened.

[What's that note in his hand?]

Conan suddenly noticed the note in Manaka's hand and was about to grab it.

Heiji was one step faster than him. He unfolded the note and, upon seeing it, his gaze hardened.

[Kubota???]

Conan's face changed drastically and he shot a look at Kubota, who was peeking at the door: He's the murderer?

Seeing Conan's expression, a malicious smile played on Heiji's lips. I'll let this guy help me complete the mission. He took the note again, stood up, and walked straight towards Director Ochiai.

"Director Ochiai, could I borrow your pen?"

[What is this Hattori guy plotting?], Conan looked at Heiji with doubt.

Director Ochiai's face changed: "Y-yes... of course."

Heiji took Director Ochiai's pen and started scribbling on the paper, suddenly frowning: "Director Ochiai, you won't mind if I keep this pen, right?"

"I don't mind," Director Ochiai said with a smile.

Conan frowned: What is Hattori doing? Has he discovered a clue? Damn it, I can't lose to him.

"Conan, don't run around," Ran told him.

Heiji continued towards Iijima and also took his pen from him.

"My pen? My pen is gone!" Kubota suddenly shouted.

Conan turned sharply in that direction, pricking up his ears.

"Your pen is gone?" Heiji asked calmly.

"Yes, my pen disappeared a while ago," Kubota said.

"Oh, really? And have you taken anyone else's pen?" Heiji asked, waving the two pens in his hand.

"No, I haven't taken the director's or Iijima's pens," Kubota said, waving his hands quickly.

A confident smile appeared on Heiji's lips. He turned and walked to another spot, where there was a pen on the floor, but he didn't pick it up.

[This is...]

Conan's face changed sharply: Don't tell me...

"Heiji-niichan, can you let me see that note?"

Heiji looked at Conan: "What's so interesting about this note?"

"Let me see it, please. I want to be a detective too, a detective!" Conan said in a pleading voice.

"Can't be helped. Here, look."

The note had already been put in a clear plastic bag by Heiji, so gloves weren't needed.

Conan stared at the note for a while and his face changed drastically: I see. That's why Hattori borrowed their pens to scribble on the note. So, the owner of the pen that doesn't write is the murderer?

Da, da, da~~!!

Inspector Megure ran in with Satō Miwako and Takagi.

"Where is the body?"

"Inspector, over there," Director Ochiai pointed towards where Heiji was.

"Hey, you two, this is a crime scene, you can't... Young Hattori? So it was you!",

Inspector Megure exclaimed.

Satō Miwako was about to kick Heiji and the others out when she heard Inspector Megure's words and stopped: "Inspector Megure, they are..."

"Ah, Miwako, let me introduce you. This is Heiji Hattori, a famous high school detective from Kansai. This kid is very good, probably as good as young Kudo," Inspector Megure said with a smile.

"Oh, really?"

Satō Miwako glanced at Heiji, with some disbelief.

"Inspector Megure, you've finally arrived," Heiji nodded to Satō Miwako and walked straight to the inspector.

"Young Hattori, what happened here?"

Inspector Megure approached Manaka's body, his expression grave.

"It's a premeditated murder. The victim is the owner of this museum. When I found the body, he had been dead for about twenty minutes. And I think I already have some evidence."

"Oh, really?"

Hearing Heiji's words, Inspector Megure was delighted.

Heiji nodded confidently: "This time there are two clues: this note is one, and the other is this pen."

"A note and a pen?"

Inspector Megure took the two items and examined them closely.

"Kubota??? This is... Who is Kubota?"

Kubota suddenly shuddered, panic reflected in his eyes: "Why are you saying my name?"

"Arrest him."

"What are you doing? What are you doing?" Kubota resisted violently.

"Stay still!" Takagi pinned him down directly.

"Young Hattori, Kubota is the murderer, right?" Inspector Megure looked at Heiji expectantly.

[That's not right, this could be a setup to frame him.]

A glint of insight flashed in Conan's eyes. He remembered Director Ochiai's strange expression from before.

"It's just a possibility. Inspector Megure, look at the note more carefully."

It's not that easy to fool Conan, I'll have to make it tricky for him.

Inspector Megure stared intently at the note and suddenly had a flash of inspiration: "This is... a pen mark. There's an indentation under the text on this note, what does that mean?"

[Right, the pen mark. Why is there an indentation on that note?]

Conan thought, resting his chin on his hand.

"The answer is over there."

Heiji pointed to an object in the exhibition hall, with an expression of complete confidence.
