Chapter 157 - Chapter 158: The Stranger Who Suddenly Appeared

Many people had gathered near the Statue of Liberty, some white, but mostly black. In America, no one looked forward to human rights and freedom more than black people.

Suddenly, a remote-controlled plane appeared in the sky, carrying a large paper bag underneath.

"What is that?"

Everyone's attention was drawn to the small plane.

The remote-controlled plane hovered in the air for a while, performing high-difficulty maneuvers. Suddenly, the plane flipped over, and countless pieces of paper fell from the bag, like rain.

"What is this?"

People picked up the papers.

"I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: 'We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.'"

"I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia, the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood."

"I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. I have a dream today!"

Every card had a sentence like this.

"Mayor, Mayor~"

An official's face changed drastically after reading the card content, and he hurried to find Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

Bang.

Michael slammed the card on the table, anger flashing in his eyes: "Who, who is it?"

"Don't know, it fell from a remote-controlled plane."

The official wiped away cold sweat.

"Have someone shoot it down immediately, quick."

Michael stood up abruptly, walking out with an ashen face.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

The police officers raised their guns and fired at the remote-controlled plane, but as if mocking them, it flew east and west, impossible to shoot down.

"Haven't shot it down yet?"

Michael had arrived. Seeing the remote-controlled helicopter still flying in the sky, paper still falling down, his face turned ashen again.

"Report, the remote-controlled plane is too high, can't hit it."

However, as if slapping the officer's face, the plane suddenly descended.

The officers were speechless.

"Shoot it down."

Michael's face was extremely gloomy. Tonight's lighting ceremony concerned his re-election; absolutely no mistakes were allowed.

Bang!

That officer actually hit it with one shot. With a boom, a ball of fire erupted.

"Shot it down."

Michael breathed a sigh of relief: Next is just collecting these cards.

"Mayor, there's something else."

The official pointed at something slowly drifting down from the sky.

It was another black bag.

"I'll shoot it down."

"Don't..."

The black bag burst open, and instantly, countless small notes flew out.

"Human rights and freedom are not things for show. Trading on human rights and freedom belongs to sin. When night falls, as a gentleman in the dark night, at the request of the Statue of Liberty, I will extinguish the so-called 'Flame of Hope'. Human rights and freedom are not bestowed, but God-given. —Night Baron."

"Who is this Night Baron?"

Michael asked with an ashen face.

"Don't know."

The official beside him looked confused.

"Human rights."

"Freedom."

Suddenly, a shout erupted from below, uniform and resounding through the sky.

In a nearby corner, Heiji threw the remote control into the sea casually, put his hands in his pockets, and strode away.

"Hello, Heiji, where are you?"

Kazuha's complaining voice came from the phone.

"I'm outside."

"When are you coming back? Sister Chris and Big Sister Yukiko want to take us to see the lighting ceremony."

[Lighting ceremony?]

Heiji paused: "What lighting ceremony?"

"The Statue of Liberty lighting ceremony? I heard it promotes the spirit of American human rights and freedom," Kazuha explained.

"Mm, you guys go, I have things to do."

Shaking his head helplessly, life is full of coincidences.

"Oh. Then be careful and have fun."

Kazuha was a bit disappointed.

"Mm, come back early."

Heiji was also helpless. For the safety of Kazuha and the others, he had to kill Gin, or at least distract him if he couldn't kill him.

"I don't want to be stared at all the time."

Stepping on the gas, the silver Jaguar turned into a stream of light.

Mi Haibara sat quietly in the living room, three dishes and a soup on the table, staring at the screen, but her eyes were empty.

Far away in a foreign country, she suddenly felt a strong sense of loneliness.

After a long while, she couldn't help but sigh faintly.

"Let's eat."

Muttering to herself, she started eating again.

"We now begin the live broadcast of the Statue of Liberty lighting ceremony. Just now, countless cards scattered from the sky, written with the speech 'I Have a Dream' delivered by former civil rights leader Martin Luther King. Now, the atmosphere at the scene is very chaotic, and the emotions of those black people are already very high."

Suddenly, the camera shifted, and someone handed a piece of paper to the anchor.

"Viewers, just received the latest news. Something big might happen tonight. A person claiming to be the Night Baron wants to extinguish the sacred flame tonight. There are helicopters overhead, and police presence has increased to 100 officers, heavily guarded. Let us look forward to how this gentleman called Night Baron will extinguish the torch symbolizing 'hope'..."

Mi Haibara turned down the volume immediately, frowning tightly: Should I open the door?

The phone rang suddenly, and she answered immediately: "Hello, someone is ringing the doorbell outside, what should I do?"

"You should open the door."

Mi Haibara looked confused: Didn't he say not to pay attention to others?

"I'm right outside," Heiji said helplessly.

Instantly, the phone hung up, and the next second the door opened.

"You're here?"

A gentle call, like a wife waiting for her husband at home, full of surprise and excitement.

"Just eating?"

There was still some time before the lighting ceremony, a good time to tell Akemi Miyano some things.

"Mm, I'll serve you rice right away."

Heiji didn't refuse; he indeed hadn't eaten yet.

Eating with this person was something Mi Haibara had imagined before. She didn't expect it to come true today.

"Tonight, use a mask to become your sister, walk around near the Statue of Liberty. When the camera moves over, let it capture your profile, then leave hurriedly and wait for me back here."

Mi Haibara's eyes widened suddenly: "Impersonate my sister?"

"Mm, I have my purpose."

Heiji didn't explain too much.

"I understand."

Mi Haibara didn't ask too much either, eating silently.

"I'll go prepare, you go too."

Using the kaleidoscope human skin mask, she easily became Shiho Miyano, then trimmed her hair and wore clothes her sister liked. In the blink of an eye, Shiho Miyano appeared in the mirror.

"Sister, sorry."

Akemi Miyano stuck out her tongue mischievously and opened the bedroom door to leave.

Seeing the stranger in the room, her face changed drastically.
