"I-I can't return to my chamber," Those words were muffled against his chest after a moment.
It came as a desperate plea.
Vaeron's expression changed at the fear in her voice. "What happened in your chamber?" he asked.
She stiffened against him.
The change was small, but he felt it immediately. He lowered his gaze towards her. "Little wolf."
She shook her head. "I-I can't stay there," She said. Lucrezia knew she'd probably regret her next words, but she said it nonetheless. "Please, let me spend a night in yours."
Those words were spoken in such certainty that they made him stiffen.
Vaeron's expression hardened slightly.
He was accustomed to being avoided. He was accustomed to answers, particularly when something threatened the security of his household.
But he could feel her trembling. He could sense the fear she was trying to suppress, the exhaustion that had settled into her limbs, and the peculiar disturbance beneath it all.
