Nikolai's POV
No ounce of fear in his voice. Of course, we have the same blood; he was my brother after all.
I looked at him slowly, incredulously. "Let go."
He didn't.
Instead, Lazar let go, only to step closer to Isabella and deliberately, theatrically lowered himself to one knee in front of her.
Every instinct in me roared.
"Stay here tonight," Lazar said softly, voice honeyed with danger.
Isabella paled further, if that was even possible. She faintly shook her head, just a slight movement, but I noticed her eyes were misty, and she was holding her tears.
"No," I said sharply. "She's leaving."
Lazar didn't look at me. His attention remained fixed on her face, drinking in her fear like it was wine.
"She's safer here," he replied. "You know that."
So it was clear that Lazar was keeping tabs on her. That was why he knew what had happened at her place. When did all this happen? Why didn't I know what Lazar was up to past few days?
