Chapter 19 - Chapter 19 Strange, Emotional, Happy then Cute

At the School

Keifer's POV

"Keifer, let's go to the cafeteria," Rory said.

"You guys go eat. I will come with Jay," I replied.

"Where is she?" Ci-n asked.

"In the CR," I answered.

They all went to the cafeteria, but I stayed back in class, waiting for Jay.

It's been five minutes, but she isn't here yet.

"Jay, why aren't you here yet?" I whispered to myself.

I was about to go to her when she suddenly came back into the class.

"Jay, where were you? I was worried about you," I said, holding her hand.

"Keifer, can we go home?" she asked.

"Home now? Why? Are you okay?" I asked.

"Keifer, please, home now . " she said, looking into my eyes.

Her eyes were glossy, like my one wrong word would make her start crying.

"Okay, okay. We will go," I said.

I left her hand and picked up our bags.

"Let's go," I said, and she nodded.

We went to my car.

She slid into the passenger seat.

I kept both of our bags in the back seat and went to the driver's seat.

She kept watching outside the window.

I kept driving toward my house while stealing glances at her.

She is behaving strangely today.

"Keifer, stop," she said.

I hit the brakes. "What happened, baby?"

"Stop calling me baby," she said.

"Why aren't you my baby?" I said, smirking.

"REMOVE THAT SMIRK OFF YOUR FACE," she said seriously.

"Are you angry?" I asked.

"Leave it. I want ice cream," she said.

I looked outside through her side's window, there was an ice cream shop SWEET SCOOPS .

I looked back towards her.

"Ice cream?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.

She nodded happily.

"Okay, wait here. I will go," I said and got out of the car.

I went to the shop and bought her favourite flavour, cookies and cream.

When I came back to the car, she opened the window and took the ice cream.

I stood there with my arms crossed, leaning on the window, smirking.

She tasted it and her face changed.

"I don't want it," she said.

My smirk faded. "What? You said you wanted ice cream."

"I know, but this is cookies and cream," she said, handing the ice cream to me.

"You like it . It's your favourite flavour."

"I know, but I want Belgian chocolate," she said, making a face.

"But—"

She cut me off. "No buts. I said I want Belgian chocolate, so I want it."

She crossed her arms and puffed her cheeks.

I sighed. "Okay, just wait," I said and went back to shop .

I bought the flavour she asked for.

I gave her the ice cream and her face lit up.

She started eating it happily and I went back to the driver's seat with the flavour cookies and cream.

"Well, hmm, it's tasty. Now I know why it's your favourite flavour."

But she refused it again.

Something was wrong.

I stopped the car when we reached home.

After finishing my ice cream, I started driving while she was still eating.

Her behaviour is wrong today .

She is hiding something big .

"Jay, lets go," I said, untangling my seatbelt.

No response came .

" Jay, come on le -- " I said but stopped mid-sentence as I saw her sleeping like a cat.

She was curled up towards the window, her arms around her stomach.

She is cute, like a baby.

But My baby.

I took our bags and got out of the car .

I walked back to her side of the car and gently knocked on the window.

"Jay," I called softly.

She stirred a little but didn't wake up.

I smiled and opened the door carefully.

"Jay, we're home," I said.

She groaned and turned her face toward me. "Already?"

"Yes," I chuckled. "You slept the whole way after eating ice-cream ."

She sat up slowly, rubbing her eyes. "Why didn't you wake me earlier?"

"Because you looked peaceful," I replied.

She looked at me for a second, then sighed. "I'm still tired."

I held her hand. "Come on, I'll help you inside."

She nodded and stepped out of the car. I locked it and picked up our bags.

As we walked toward the house, she leaned against me.

"Keifer?" she said quietly.

"Yes?"

"Thank you for taking care of me."

I looked at her and smiled. "Always."

She smiled back, and for the first time that day, she looked calm.

But something still felt off.

And I knew she wasn't telling me everything.

I opened the door and helped her inside.

The house was quiet as maids were in their quater and Keigan and Keiren were still in the school .

"Sit here," I said, guiding her to the couch.

She obeyed without arguing, curling her legs up beneath her.

"Do you want water?" I asked.

She shook her head.

"Food?"

Again, she shook her head.

I sat beside her. "Jay, talk to me. What's wrong?"

She looked at her hands, playing with her fingers.

"Nothing," she whispered.

I sighed. "You've been strange all day. You didn't want your favourite ice cream, you looked tired at school , you kept zoning out , and you've been moody since morning. Something is bothering you."

She stayed quiet.

I gently took her hand. "You can tell me anything."

Her grip tightened around my fingers.

"Keifer…" she hesitated.

I waited.

"My stomach hurts," she said softly.

I frowned. "Since when?"

"Since morning. And my head hurts too. Everything hurts," she murmured.

Realisation hit me. "Jay… are you on your periods ?"

She nodded slowly, embarrassed.

"That's why you were acting strange today," I said gently.

She bit her lip. "I didn't want to complain."

I pulled her into my arms. "You don't have to suffer quietly. You should have told me."

She rested her head on my chest. "I didn't want to worry you."

I brushed her hair back. "You worrying alone worries me more."

She smiled faintly.

"Come on," I said. "Lie down. I'll bring you a heating pad and some warm water."

She looked at me. "You'll stay?"

"Of course," I said. "Always."

She relaxed against me, finally letting herself be taken care of.

And for the first time that day, she didn't look scared anymore.

" So , at the morning, on the way to school, you bought sanitary napkins?" I asked .

She nodded slowly.

I lifted her in my arms .

" Keifer! I can go by myself." She said .

" It's okay Jay. My duty to serve my princess." I said and went towards bedroom.

I lied her down on the bed and I came back downstairs.

She was lying on the bed with a blanket wrapped around her like a burrito.

I came back with a heating pad and a glass of warm water.

"Here," I said, placing the heating pad on her stomach.

She sighed in relief. "You're a lifesaver."

I sat beside her. "Do you feel better?"

She nodded… then frowned.

"But I want chocolate."

I raised an eyebrow. "You just said you didn't want ice cream."

"That was ten years ago," she said dramatically. "My cravings have evolved."

I laughed. "You're unbelievable."

"I want Belgian chocolate," she said firmly.

"You had Belgian chocolate ice cream an hour ago."

"That was ice cream chocolate. I want real chocolate chocolate."

I crossed my arms. "What kind?"

She thought for a moment. "Dark chocolate. With nuts. And maybe caramel."

"That's three chocolates."

"Yes. I'm on my periods . Don't judge me."

I shook my head, smiling. "Anything else, Your Majesty?"

She gasped. "Oh! And chips."

"Sweet and salty?"

"Yes."

"You're impossible."

She grinned. "And you love me."

I stood up. "Stay here. Don't move."

She saluted. "Yes, sir."

I came back five minutes later with chocolates and chips.

Her eyes sparkled like I had brought treasure.

"You're the best boyfriend in the world," she said, grabbing the chocolate.

I smirked. "You say that only when I buy food."

She took a bite and sighed. "Still counts."

She was happily eating her chocolate when her smile slowly faded.

I noticed her hand tighten around the wrapper.

"Jay?" I said.

She shifted on the bed and curled into herself. "Keifer… my stomach hurts again."

I sat up immediately. "Bad?"

She nodded, pressing her hand against her lower abdomen. "Really bad."

I moved closer , laid her down and gently pulled the blanket over her. "Come here."

She scooted toward me, her face scrunched in pain.

"I hate periods," she muttered.

"I know, baby," I said softly, rubbing her back. "I know."

Her breathing became uneven.

"Keifer, it's cramping so much," she whispered.

I placed the heating pad back on her stomach. "Hold this."

She winced. "It feels like someone is twisting my insides."

My chest tightened. "Do you want me to get medicine?"

She nodded weakly.

I rushed to the kitchen, grabbed the painkillers, and brought a glass of warm water.

"Sit up slowly," I said, helping her.

She swallowed the medicine and lay back down.

Her eyes were glossy.

"Keifer, what if it gets worse?" she asked quietly.

I brushed her hair away from her face. "Then I'll stay right here and hold you through it."

She grabbed my shirt. "Don't go."

"I'm not going anywhere."

She curled into my chest, clutching my arm.

Then I again remembered the doctor's words about her periods and pregnancy.

"I feel so weak," she murmured.

"You're strong," I said. "Your body is just being dramatic today."

She let out a small laugh through the pain.

I kissed her forehead. "Close your eyes. Let the medicine work."

She nodded, still holding onto me.

Minutes passed.

Her breathing slowly calmed.

The cramps were still there, but now she wasn't facing them alone.

And neither was I.

A soft knock came on the door .

" Come in ." I said .

Keiren and Keigan came .

" Kuya , Is Ate Okay ?" Keiren asked .

" Don't worry Keiren, she is okay . You guys go and just don't disturb her . I will stay with her . Okay ! " I said .

They nodded and both of them went downstairs.

At the Night

The room was quiet except for the ticking of the clock and her soft breathing.

She was curled against my chest, the heating pad still resting on her stomach.

I kept one arm around her shoulders and the other rubbing slow circles on her back.

Every few minutes, she shifted, trying to find a position that didn't hurt.

"Still bad?" I whispered.

She nodded. "It comes and goes."

I kissed her hair. "I'm right here."

She sighed and pressed her face into my shirt.

The medicine hadn't fully kicked in yet.

Her fingers clutched my sleeve every time a wave of pain hit.

"Keifer…" she whispered.

"Yes, baby."

"Don't fall asleep."

I smiled softly. "I won't. I'm on night duty."

She let out a tiny laugh. "Good."

I adjusted the blanket around her and tucked it under her feet.

Her body was warm, but her hands were cold.

I held them between mine.

"You're shaking," I said.

"I always feel cold on my periods ," she murmured.

I pulled her closer. "Human heater activated."

She hummed in approval.

Minutes turned into hours.

Sometimes she slept for a little while, then woke up when the cramps returned.

Each time, I rubbed her back, whispered nonsense, and told her stupid jokes until she relaxed again.

At one point she mumbled, half-asleep, "You're too good to me."

I smiled in the dark. "You deserve it."

Near dawn, her breathing finally evened out.

The pain had eased.

She was sleeping peacefully now, her head on my chest.

I looked down at her and thought—

If love means staying awake all night just to make sure she's okay,

then I was exactly where I wanted to be.
