Chapter 16 - Guardians

Ms. Avry arrived a few minutes after Aefia had entered. Ms. Avry's eyes had dark circles around them, while her hands looked skinnier than they had last night.

Aefia wanted to ask whether the situation in the office was alright, but hesitated since it wasn't her business to know such things, she was just a participant.

After she had gotten to their meeting room, she had been writing down the information she had taken note of onto her system's notepad. She didn't have the time to talk to Nada and the others. She had also reviewed her previous notes to recall the information she had captured.

"Since it's already been three days, I believe we should start today's class by learning about the Guardians and their categories. After which we will learn about the three main types of magic. Then, when we have captured the most important part of this competition's core knowledge, we will learn a bit more about this world, particularly about the months and weeks, and all the other things you were supposed to research about." Ms. Avry explained. She brought out a marker and started writing on the glass layer which sat on top of the wall.

Guardians are known as people who have achieved a level of completion of the type of magic they harbour inside them. They have completed and passed all levels of strength and knowledge and are now rulers of their titles.

There are three types of magic: elemental, ritualistic, and spiritualistic. No Guardians come without magic and if there are any, they are known as the False Prophets.

The reason behind why they are given that name would be because they have no proof of where the revelation came from and whether there was actually a source, but they might have some information on how they got it if it is close enough to another said revelation.

The way to identify a Guardian is to know their type of magic and their categories. The combination of the two types would tell a person about who might be the owner of the revelation.

The first identification type is their magic type. If a Guardian harbours elemental magic, they have completed all Phases of their element. If a Guardian harbours ritualistic magic, they have completed and successfully tried and used every spell written in the Absolute Spellbook. If a Guardian harbours spiritualistic magic, they have completed all types of soul-collecting forms.

The way this can be found out of the Guardian is by identifying what is written in the revelations. If it were written by a Guardian who harbours spiritual magic, they would speak about dangers and upcoming events connected to spirits, or they have used a medium that includes the use of spiritual magic to identify the revelation.

If it were written by a Guardian who harbours elemental magic, they would often speak about problems associated with the outer worlds or the 'Torture Cells', and their revelation sources are unknown to this day.

If it were written by a Guardian who harbours ritualistic magic, they would send evidence and have the revelation written on it. It is usually their enemies' bones or a bottle of poison.

Based on their types of magic, their first category can be determined, while based on their works, their second category is determined.

Elemental Guardians are the ones who had a hand in casting rocks containing the magic of an elemental animal. The animal would often possess magical qualities that have a risk of collapsing if not used properly, that is the animal becomes an unformidably powerful creature. That is why the element would be absorbed from the animal and turned into a rock.

Spiritual Guardians are those who collect the souls of powerful entities and turn them into spirits who can supply their powers to humans as equipment for battle. Although it is not a permanent magic source like the elemental magic, it is known as one of the most powerful magic types, next only to the fourth unknown magic type.

Evil Guardians, as the name suggests, are doers of black magic. They are the power sources of the ritualistic magic and the way it works is rather terrifying. The one who learned that magic type would summon the Guardian to punish their enemy by allowing them to take over their bodies.

The way to identify a Guardian is by choosing one option from each category and adding them together, like Ritualistic Evil Guardian of ...

Ever since the emergence of the Torture Cell, the number of Guardians has been decreasing for every planet that is destroyed. The number is now down to nine, and the countdown to the destruction of a universe and dimension is near.

Although there aren't any clear revelations or proof that they are dead or are captured, it can be easily decoded by the absence and ignorance by the people.

From the second category of Guardians, it can be said that there are two Evil Guardians, three Spiritual Guardians, and four Elemental Guardians.

Both of the two Evil Guardians are the last standing from the ritualistic category and they are partially linked to the Demon King of Dungeons (King of the Demons' Dungeon) and the Torture Cell. They are the ones who were involved with the destruction of some of the worlds that were once highly ranked. [This information is mind-read into the teammates' minds with the help of Anasiy's element. Speaking about the bad doings of the Guardians would result in huge punishment for the person.]

The two Evil Guardians are known as the Guardian of Wrath and the Guardian of Destruction.

The Guardian of Wrath is well-known for the victories he has brought to the people during wars. No war enemies escaped without seeing his wrath, this, giving him the title Guardian of Wrath.

The Guardian of Destruction is, as the name suggests, a devastating creature who enjoys the destruction of worlds and universes. The creature is a semi-beast with the power to collapse fifty buildings with a hit of his sword.

Then there are the three spiritual Guardians. All three of them are neither good nor evil. They are just a helping hand to anyone who is having a hard time facing their enemies.

They say that when there are two people who hate each other, they see each other as a victim and a villain. For example, The Guardian of Wrath is a victim to himself, and the war enemies are the villains. Meanwhile, the war enemies see the Guardian of Wrath as a villain and themselves as a victim.

The three Guardians are known as the Guardian of Silence, the Guardian of Knowledge, and the Guardian of the Four Elements of Life.

The Guardian of Silence is a judge who thinks twice before carrying out the task. She would weigh the good and bad of a person before siding with them. She is the most pitiful and caring of the nine Guardians and prefers opinions over facts.

The Guardian of Knowledge is a teacher who teaches the victim the right way to deal with their enemies. He doesn't vote to fight for the victim and rather educates them for future battles and says that 'Knowledge is more powerful than cheat codes. To discover and learn is better than to have a person do it for you. That way the person improves in strength and power, not you.'

The Guardian of the Four Elements of Life is more of a doctor who works on helping the victim heal, regenerate, and grow stronger to defeat the enemy. He grants the power and strength to the victim at a cost. The cost is taken as a penalty for the victim and it varies from situation to situation.

Finally, there are four Elemental Guardians. The Guardian of Time, Guardian of Space, Guardian of Light, and Guardian of Dark. The Guardian of Light and the Guardian of Dark are siblings and so are the Guardian of Time and the Guardian of Space.

The Guardian of Time is the manipulator of time. He was the first one to come across the 'Elemental Absorption' skill, but was still too far away from obtaining it safely. He was the first one to search for it and worked with the Guardian of Silence to found this competition. He was the one who established the way time moves on different planets and created calendars for each planet.

The Guardian of Space is the younger sister of the Guardian of Time. She is the one who carves the space fabric under planets, black holes, and countless other celestial objects. She looks after dimensions and can send a person to another one if she wills.

The Guardian of Light is the twin of the Guardian of Dark. She shines light on objects at whatever intensity she wishes, and if she wills, the sun can get too hot for the enemy to handle until they melt. This trick, which is mistaken as the Sun God to the people of Earth, acts as a disgrace to her. So it is better to avoid this term at most.

The Guardian of Dark is often known as the Guardian of Void. He is the opposite of his twin sister and prefers to blind the enemy with darkness as an attack.

"That's it about the nine Guardians. Does anyone have any questions?" Ms. Avry sat at her table while wiping her eyes. "Who knew being a teacher would be this hard?"

Helio raised his hand. "How powerful are the Guardians?"

"A little bit less powerful than that of Kings and Queens." Ms. Avry replied.

"How powerful are Kings and Queens than?" Helio asked again.

"Incredibly less than Deity. But enough to rule over an entire world or groups of worlds." Ms. Avry replied.

"So how powerful exactly?" Helio asked for the last time, everyone gave an annoyed look at him.

"Strong enough to avoid a world from being destroyed." Ms. Avry answered while wiping the glass board clean.

Aefia raised her hand after she was done cleaning the board. "Ms. Avry, is it possible for us to become a Guardian if we complete every Phase?"

"Yes, but it would be very dangerous and tricky to get to that position of course." Ms. Avry replied. When no one else asked any questions, Ms. Avry finally added. "Aren't you guys going to ask me if there is homework?"

The terror of homeworks exists in outer worlds too?! We students are doomed in every world and dimension!

"Well then, your homework is to write down every single detail you remember onto this paper and submit it by tomorrow." Ms. Avry handed out yellow-tinted papers to them.

My skill saved me at least. But seriously, why do we need to do homework everywhere we go?! Hearing that word can even make an old man cry!

Aefia clicked open her pocket watch and looked at the time. It was eleven ten, which meant that it was time for breakfast. My skills take too many calories to function, at least breakfast is right after class!

"You may leave now. Remember that tomorrow the class is at twelve. For the rest of the day, you are all allowed to hang out with your teammates in this meeting room. Make sure to keep this room tidy after doing so." With that, Ms. Avry left the meeting room.

"So, Aefia, how is your research going, about your elemental magic?" Nada asked.

"I haven't started yet. I am currently trying my best to finish the book about Hellas." Aefia replied.

"What is Hellas though?" Diego asked.

"It's another outer world like Nikoan," Aefia replied.

"I am reading about an outer world too, it's called Demae, and one of the most unexplainable histories ever," Nada spoke. Of course, you would suffer through it too.

"I am reading about cultivating the power of the mind." Anasiy joined the conversation.

"I am working on improving my healing abilities," Helio added.

"I am learning about the types of poison and their effects. I need to learn it to enhance my poison-related skills. They are all just poison names." Diego explained.

"Well, it's good to know you all are invested in something to spend your time, " Aefia added while going through all the information she had written while Ms. Avry explained about the Guardians.

"Aefia, are you ok? You are not acting yourself since this morning." Nada noticed the odd way Aefia was answering things.

"Huh..oh yeah I am fine," Aefia replied. I am just uncertain about something I have read. "I am trying to decide soon whether to return the book about Hellas early since I am more than half done with it."

"Alright. I am also at the end of my book, maybe we can all go together? I also overheard a conversation of a stranger saying that there is an arcade at Nepolitan where they have all sorts of video games." Nada added.

"Arcade? Should we ask Ms. Avry if we can go there maybe?" Aefia quickly shut her notebook and put down her pen.

"We should ask her tomorrow. I wonder what video games in this world are like." Anasiy replied.

Aefia checked the time one last time before saying, "I need to head back to finish my breakfast first. Then maybe we can meet again at twelve thirty?"

"Yeah sure, Anasiy got a watch as an item for her element. She is in charge of gathering us then." Nada added before Aefia left.

"Alright!" Aefia waved at her teammates before closing the door and leaving for her room.

She took the tray of food and opened the door to the room. She noticed a piece of paper on the floor and she quickly closed the door after getting in. She dropped the tray on her table and picked up the paper to read it.

'The descent of a Guardian is around the corner. The Guardian is said to be searching for the person with the special skill. I can't add any more details, PROTECT YOURSELF.'
