Chapter 28 - CH 26

[Host, aren't you wondering where the little spiders are?]

'They live in the deepnest, so I guess they live in the deepest floor.'

----------------------

Long before the Pale King established Hallownest, the terrifying, labyrinthine territory of Deepnest was home to an advanced, highly centralized civilization: the Weavers.

They were spiders, distinct from the common bugs of Deepnest, characterized by their immense skill in manipulating silk, shadow, and dream. Their culture was built around the art of Weaving, which was not just about making cloth, but about manifesting magic and communicating through the threads of reality itself.

The Weavers were known for their elegant language and their advanced understanding of the world's underlying energies. However, as the Pale King extended his influence across Hallownest, the Weavers chose to remain apart.

They did not seek the Pale King's light or embrace his concept of civilization. They valued their own culture and the primal darkness of Deepnest.

Due to internal conflicts, external pressures, or a desire to preserve the purity of their art, most of the Weavers left Hallownest entirely. They wove a great web, used it as a ship, and sailed away to an unknown destination beyond the kingdom's borders.

When I arrived, the Weavers' civilization is long gone, but their legacy remains deep within the winding tunnels of Deepnest.

The Knight can find the remains of their primary workshop and home—the Weaver's Den. Inside this crumbling structure, the remnants of their culture survive.

The final, beautiful piece of their art is the Weaver Song, a melody written in silk. By listening to this ancient song, I unlocked the Weaver Song Charm.

This charm is the physical manifestation of their magic. It summons three tiny, ghost-like Weaverlings that accompany me. These miniature Weavers attack enemies with their own sharp, silvery thread, demonstrating the enduring power of the Weavers' craft.

The most tragic part of their story is the last known living Weaver in Hallownest.

The Knight discovers this Weaver in the Fungal Wastes, near the Mantis Village, having been imprisoned by the Mantis Tribe who feared her power and unsettling presence.

This last individual is encountered after freeing her from a prison made of wood and silk. She is silent, weary, and immediately flees back towards the darkness of Deepnest, having no desire to linger in the ruins of Hallownest. Her brief appearance emphasizes the solitude and sorrow of a great civilization reduced to a single, hunted survivor.

The Weavers' story is a quiet tragedy. It reminds me that Hallownest was just one kingdom, and before the Infection and the Pale King, there were other powerful, complex, and beautiful civilizations that either left by choice or were left behind. Their silk magic is one of the few things that remains untainted by the orange light.

"Alright time to dig up" I said as I jumped and start digging the ceiling.

unknown to me there was a survivor among the evilus group who was hiding.

-Rumble-

I kept digging until I arrived at the 1st floor.

"I like this ability so much." I said with a satisfied face.

To go through the floors in seconds is something I should be proud of but I must be careful from the dungeon.

[Host, I have a question.]

'Hm' I thought without saying a word after all who knows what tricks the system has.

[Do you miss your original parents?]

I froze thinking about this question.

'I don't think so.'

[?!]

[What?]

'Yeah, my mother left me when I was a baby, and my father was an alcoholic person who would beat his own son for relieving stress.'

Painful memories started to come to my head.

My only way to escape this life was one game.

Hollow knight

This game was the reason I kept going in life.

To enjoy the game, discover the secrets in it.

It was the most beautiful game I played in my entire life.

Then came silksong which was also amazing which made me want the DLC of it.

Sadly, I died before it dropped.

'To be honest system, I should be thankful to you after all you're the one who saved my life from my father.'

[...]

'Though you are annoying and sometimes unbearable to deal with, but I won't hate you for it.'

For the first time in my life, I was honest with the system.

Some people might think they will be cold-hearted person and act gloomy if they went inside the game.

But they forget that some people in that world are actually good.

Like the elderbug who was keep thinking about my safety whenever I left.

Though I know he was lonely even when some people came, he was always considered himself as useless for helping others.

And Quirrel who was nice to me.

And Hornet...Well if we removed the times, she tried to kill me she's actually care about me.

And let's not forget about the Grubs.

The Grubs are small, larval creatures found throughout Hallownest. They are innocent, plump, and easily recognizable by their bright green color, wide, expectant eyes, and high-pitched, distinctive chittering calls.

They are the children of the Grubfather, a large, kind, and immensely devoted Grub found in the quiet corners of the Crossroads.

The Grubs were once spread throughout the kingdom, living their simple, peaceful lives. However, Hallownest fell into ruin, and these gentle creatures became easy targets.

A mysterious, monstrous entity known as the Collector—a maniacal, laugh-crazed bug—began hunting the Grubs. The Collector was obsessed with collecting living things and storing them in glass jars.

The Collector systematically trapped all 46 of the Grubs across Hallownest, sealing them in these unbreakable glass jars and hiding them behind challenging puzzles, dangerous platforms, or even hostile enemies.

The poor Grubfather was left alone in his lair, utterly heartbroken, staring at the empty cocoon nests where his children used to rest. He could only weep and wait, relying on the hope that someone might save his scattered offspring.

I take on the role of the Grubs' rescuer.

By finding and purchasing the Luminescent Stone from Sly, I gained the ability to spot the jars hidden throughout the kingdom.

Upon finding a jar, I must break it open. When freed, the Grub chitters happily, giving me a small reward of Geo.

The Grub then immediately vanishes, teleporting back to the safety of the Grubfather's lair.

Each time I return to the Grubfather, the massive Grub expresses his gratitude with progressively better rewards, culminating in a powerful Charm after most of his children are safe.

The full story of the Grubs concludes once I find and frees all 46 children.

I return to the Grubfather's lair one final time. The lair is quiet. The Grubfather is there, but he is alone. He looks peaceful, larger than ever, and very, very full.

"Where are the children and why are you fat?"

"hehe"

"No."

The camera pans to the empty cocoon nests where the Grubs once slept. But now, those nests are covered in the familiar green slime of the Grubs, and they are shaking violently.

The Grubfather gives a low, contented burp, and then explodes in a spray of green goo, revealing that he has devoured all 46 of his children.

This moment is one of the most ambiguous and disturbing in the game.

Some people of two reason why he ate them:

The Dark Interpretation: The Grubfather's sorrow drove him insane, and he ate his children when they returned home, perhaps fulfilling some horrific, natural life cycle of the species.

The Rebirth Interpretation: The children were not eaten, but instead, the Grubfather is a cocoon for the entire generation. By consuming them, he initiates a mass metamorphosis. The green goo and the shaking cocoons suggest that the 46 Grubs are now metamorphosing (like butterflies) and will eventually emerge as a new, more powerful generation—perhaps as Grubberflies, the true adult form of their species.

The final reward, the Grubberfly's Elegy charm, supports this second, slightly more hopeful interpretation, as an elegy is a poem of mourning for the dead, suggesting that the children are gone, but their final transformation gives me a gift of strength.

Thus, the Grub story is a tale of rescue that ends with a challenging question: Did I saved the Grubs, or did I simply deliver them to their father for a strange, final transformation?
