'The Only Family One Could Dream Of' was a game about a fat young man, Skip, who lived as an extreme introvert inside the secret basement of a sweet family's house, camping there without their knowledge. He would take the scraps of their leftovers and watch their television when they were dead at night. Still, he would build a careful fantasy of himself being involved with the family. How he was a secret guardian who would communicate with the family with his phone, which was the only thing he had to remember his passed away mother, wanting to take the mother for himself, and get rid of of the husband, it would be revealed as a twist with him finding out as well that he is deep into his own fantasy in a trance like state.
The game has three endings. One of them is neutral, where Skip discovers through a diary that he is taking medications that put him in a fantasy phase. He decides to overdose on the drug to enter one final fantasy. In the good ending, he breaks the phone, snaps out of the illusion, and decides to leave the house to start over, working hard to change his bad habits. The last ending is that Skip goes fully mad, murders the whole family with an axe, and hangs himself with the phone.
Gao Ming and Skip were two very different characters, but the concept was similar; it seemed they had loving families, but in reality, they were never truly loved.
Ren also noticed that apart from Gao Ming's body, he didn't encounter any neighbours, only the various sounds made. The scenes displayed on the video chat are most likely the phone owner's own imagination; the neighbours who were killed had shown Gao Ling malice. Ren had heard rumors from gossip aunties.
Most or all the neighbours had shown and pushed on Gao Ming with malicious intentions, from bullying to lying, creating, stealing, manipulating, and so much more. Gao Ming just never spoke up and continued with his already complicated life.
Now the built-up and left-behind negative emotions had reached a point where Gao Ming was on the move. It made sense that Gao Ming was moving with great determination now.
To get the good ending of this game, he needed to make Gao Ming break his own phone.
The phone showed these videos because Gao Ming wanted to see such scenes; Ren had to face this thing head-on now. He looked at the shards of glass from the window he kicked, walking to room 2422, where the Professor was residing.
If the Professor isn't inside, and what's inside the room isn't what is shown in the video, then that means that the Professor is a ghost made up by the phone, or if the Professor is inside, then that means the Professor was a real person that entered the gam,e or someone more mysterio;s, the latter was bad news to Ren.
He wanted to knock, but the security gates of room 2421 next to him opened, the door opened, and Ren was already tense and ready to run away.
"You really don't appreciate your life." The old investigator woman, who had searched his house and attempted to force him and Renu to leave the apartment, came out with a dry smile. "Don't just stand there, come inside."
Ren just stood there. In a situation as dangerous as this, how could he trust anyone apart from himself? He couldn't just enter the apartment; even before the game scenario, he still didn't trust her.
"Do you really want to be analytical in a bizarre situation like this? We are both in danger, so why don't you enter?" The woman was getting restless, "I am here to investigate abnormal situations like this, and I know that you know that the hallway is very dangerous. Enter, you want me to beg you."
Ren didn't sense malicious intent and entered the apartment out of curiosity, which filled him since he first saw her in his apartment during the Mr. Piggisim incident.
Immediately, he entered, and the woman activated multiple locks that appeared to have been manually installed.
Ren wanted to waste no time here. "Why are you here?"
She fake giggled. "Why are you here?" He gave a phony giggle at the question being bounced back at him. It looks like neither was ready, to be honest.
They stared at each other in silence until the woman decided to break it, first pointing to the pearl bracelet around her wrist as she adjusted her tone, "Communication isn't possible when abnormal events start."
Ren suddenly thought of something. He remembered answering a call from his parents during the last game, and if what the woman said was true, then that meant he had received calls from ghosts; he was worried about whether they were okay.
"It's tough for people to accept these things, but they are not normal." She teased with a smile. "You still want to play clueless guy with me, or we can exchange information.
Ren kept his cards still within his pockets. "What are abnormal activities?"
The woman shook her head, "Don't even try this now."
Renu lifted his hands in surrender. "Okay, if you tell me who you are, then I will give you what I know so far."
The woman huffed as she rubbed her temple. "Did you know that these abnormal events started happening a year ago?"
Ren was stunned by hearing that.
"Obviously, it could not be reported to the news. But from the start of the strange events, the next day was when the Bizarre Events Investigation Bureau, our job is self-explanatory." The woman tapped her bracelet. "We just want to find the cause of the disasters.
Ren was confused about why she was revealing a bit too much, and she seemed to have sensed that from him.
"Forgive me for asking, but why were you chosen for investigating such a dangerous thing. Wouldn't it be safer to hire younger people?" Ren asked, genuinely curious as he had always wondered why she was picked to travel and investigate these kinds of things.
The woman shrugged. "They did, in fact, a team containing 20 of us for my section; I am just what's left from several investigations."
Ren was shocked by the news. It made sense that these guys would get annihilated by the abnormal events, even he, who had a lot of this and that, was nearly killed.
"Yet, you are still walking," Ren said, and the woman smiled. It looked genuine.
"I already feel that I have reached my end with this one. I have this feeling that I won't make it out of this building. But that may be a lie, lost a lot of mentees and friends. Don't know when my time would come." She said with her eyes scanning him.
She had a eureka expression on her face. "Yes, I knew something was odd. Where is your girlfriend?"
Ren shrugged. "It's complicated."
The woman shrugged back.
Ren was a bit confused as the woman didn't question him. "You are not going to ask me anything?"
The woman shrugged again. "At this point, I know you will just spew out of your mouth pure nonsense, or try to gaslight me. You tell me when you want to tell me."
Ren felt a bit bad. "I don't know fully what's happening, but I am on my way to try to understand from someone. I am also deep in trouble."
He got the woman's attention, as she now focused well on him.
"You wanted to enter 2422. What's in it?" She asked.
Ren smiled. "To believe in me fully and give an extra hand, why don't you follow me?" He needed all the help that he could get.
