Narrowly missing snapping mandibles and long tentacles tipped with pointed pincers, the group tumbled through the portal. They were safe and whole, but the sheer horror of the attack had left them all on the verge of a panic attack.
This creature had been fundamentally different from anything they had faced before. It felt like a grim omen—that more were coming, each more dangerous, weird, and deadly than the last. Flesh-eating monsters were beginning to dominate their world.
In the dark void of the portal, they fell silent. Each of them stared into the gloom, terrified that the slightest noise would alert some new horror they weren't ready to face.
"We are safe, thank goodness. Now we're heading to the place Kai spoke of," Lucas explained. He couldn't see a single face in the blackness, nor hear a voice; only the harsh, ragged sound of breathing came from his companions.
