Cherreads

Chapter 32 - 31

"So this is our turf," Jun-seo said, his voice echoing slightly as he led us down the quiet, sound-proofed hallway of the music wing .

Leo was looking around, his 'bored' expression replaced with genuine curiosity. "It's... cleaner than our junior high."

"And about five times bigger," Jun-seo agreed. He pointed to a glass-paneled door with a glowing 'ON AIR' sign above it. "That's the Broadcasting Booth. It's where the school radio club, 'Kirin's Voice,' does their announcements. Min-ah's in there half the time."

He led us to a set of grand, double-height doors.

"And this," he said, pushing one open, "is the main Performance Hall."

We stepped onto a balcony overlooking a vast, dark space.

It was a professional theater. Rows of plush red seats sloped down to a massive, proscenium stage.

"Wow," I breathed. It was ten times the size of the recital hall I'd played in.

"It seats over five hundred," Jun-seo said, a note of pride in his voice. "The stage is fully equipped for musicals, plays, orchestras... the works. The festival's main performance happens here."

We continued on. "The far end of this wing is all the club rooms for the music department," he explained. "Vocal training, classical composition, digital production... our 'Applied Music' classes are back here too."

We crossed the grand central hall , past the marble staircase , and into the Visual Arts wing. "On our left," Jun-seo said, pointing to a wide stairwell, "are the stairs down to the cafeteria."

I winced, and Leo shot me a grin. "The scene of the crime," he stage-whispered.

"Shut up," I muttered.

Jun-seo stopped at another set of polished wooden doors.

"This is the main Conference Hall." He peeked inside. It was a tiered, university-style lecture hall with about a hundred seats, all facing a smart-board. "The Student Council meets here. Academic council, research presentations, important guest speakers... that kind of thing."

Further down, he pointed to a room buzzing with the sound of machinery. "That's the Applied Arts workshop. Sculpting, woodwork, metal design... they've got a 3D printer in there that costs more than Yoo Chae-rin's wardrobe."

I pointed to a heavy, unmarked steel door at the end of a short corridor.

"What's that one?" Jun-seo glanced at it. "Oh, that? It's one of the access stairwells to the main building's roof."

"The roof? Can we go up?"

"It's locked," he said, jiggling the handle. "Huh. That's weird. It's usually open. The only other one is inside the faculty office, so this is the one students use."

"Use for what?" I asked. Leo scoffed.

"For eating lunch, smoking, and making out, probably. What else are school roofs for?"

Jun-seo just gave him a look:

"Or for... fresh air. And down here," he said, moving on, "are the rest of the visual arts clubs. Photography, ceramics, fashion design, animation..." He pushed open the heavy glass doors at the end of the wing, leading us back outside into the bright sunlight.

"That's pretty much the main building," he said. "Now, for the sports wing. San, you've already seen the inside."

"Yeah," I said, my mind flashing back to the bright orange tracksuit.

"Come on, Leo," Jun-seo said. "I'll show you where the jocks live."
