Lin Fang didn't answer immediately.
His gaze drifted briefly to the wall, as if he were already picturing Aquilonis. Endless waters. Unknown civilizations. Monsters that could swallow fleets whole. Joining an elite mercenary team would be the logical choice. The smart choice.
Then he shook his head.
"No," Lin Fang said calmly. "I'm sorry, but I want to explore that world on our own. Me, my sister, Adam, and Nebula."
Feng Xiu's eyes narrowed slightly. "You're certain?" he asked. "The world beyond that Rift isn't simple. It's dangerous. You've seen the information yourself."
Lin Fang met his gaze without hesitation. "I know," he replied evenly. "I was there for your presentation."
For a few seconds, neither of them spoke. Feng Xiu studied Lin Fang closely, as if trying to see through him, to determine whether this was stubborn pride or genuine resolve.
At last, Feng Xiu nodded. "Alright."
There was no disappointment in his voice. Only acceptance.
