Emily paced the living room, her mind racing through the logistics of breaking into Patricia's safe while Timothy, Sebastian, and Jack planned on speakerphone.
"The combination is Harold's birthday," Emily repeated. "October 15th. That's 10-15 or 1015, depending on the safe's format."
"Patricia and Stephanie will be at the hospital for hours," Timothy said. "Harold's dying. They won't leave until he's gone, and even then they'll probably stay to handle immediate arrangements. That gives us a window."
"What about the house staff?" Sebastian asked through the phone. "The Smiths have at least two live-in employees....housekeeper and cook."
"Both usually take Tuesday mornings off," Emily said, remembering the household schedule from when she'd lived there. "Patricia was cheap about staffing. They get three hours on Tuesday and Thursday mornings to run personal errands. If we time it right, the house should be empty."
