Emily walked across campus with Ming Li trailing two steps behind, feeling strangely nostalgic. This had been her refuge for two years....a place where she could be just Emily, a physics student, a normal girl studying and making friends.
But she wasn't a normal girl anymore.
The stares confirmed that. Students stopping mid-conversation to point. Whispered conversations. Phones being pulled out to take photos. Some brave souls calling out: "Princess Emily!" or "We support you!"
"Sister Emily is very popular on campus!" Ming Li observed cheerfully.
"I just want to talk to my advisor and leave," Emily said quietly.
She was heading to Professor Harrison's office....her academic advisor who'd helped her navigate the physics program. She needed to officially inform the university that she'd be completing her degree remotely.
