As Margaret left the room, Clara sat still for a moment, letting the silence settle. She thought hard about Margaret's words, and as much as she was right, their circumstances were different. Clara and Ethan were not dating or in love when Axiel was conceived, so it wasn't the same as Robert and Margaret's story. Still, she was suprised that she din't know about their history, but she knew they loved each other deeply.
Was Margaret right though? Clara wondered. Will I come to regret my decision to divorce Ethan? maybe. But for now, that feels like the best choice.
Clara slowly rose and walked to the mirror. Her eyes were red, puffy, and swollen, and she hated the idea of Axiel waking up to see her like that.
She splashed her face with cold water from the small bathroom sink, dabbing away the tear stains carefully.
By the time he woke up, she told herself, she wanted her eyes dry.
They would play a game, maybe with cards, or maybe draw something together.
