Chapter 6 - Chapter 6 - A Grotesque Creature of Flesh

It was gruesome, grotesque and ghastly. The very sight of the abomination was enough to send a chill running down Jay's spine. It was not the first disgusting creature he'd seen, as he had seen a few disgusting dormant creatures before, but it certainly was the most appalling yet. The way the eyes stared at him was genuinely the most horrific thing he'd ever seen.

And then, the thing moved. It somehow managed to drag itself towards Jay, at a frightening speed far beyond what a limbless mass of flesh should be able to produce.

Jay shook himself for a moment to get ready, and then, it was there.

It was facing him with its largest mouth.

Jay immediately jumped to the side, which was good, because the abomination crashed into the spot where he had just been a moment ago. Even if it didn't bother opening its mouths, its weight alone would have been enough to crush him to death.

Jay slashed at the creature with all his might; after all, with the Crimson Plume, his first blow was supposed to be the deadliest. And it was the deadliest. It tore through the creature's flesh like paper.

It's disgusting yellow blood splattered across the floor. His slash had opened up an incredibly large gash in the creature's midsection.

The creature made no noise. The mouths simply continued trying to devour all that was in their path.

The creature turned to Jay, and at that moment, he felt an immense threat of death.

He activated the Fleet-footed enchantment, just for a second, and threw himself backward.

A giant flower of flesh appeared beneath the spot where Jay had been standing moments ago.

The flower exploded into a flurry of yellow blood, dissolving the very ground itself.

The creature stared at Jay with increasing malice as it lunged towards him once more.

He threw himself to the side and rolled as the creature tore itself into the place where he had been just a moment ago. The creature's momentum carried it a little further, crushing a cocoon of flesh and its unlucky inhabitant to death.

As he was about to get up to try to take advantage of the opportunity, he felt another intense premonition of death.

He activated Fleet-footed once more and moved forward, towards the abomination. Another flower exploded in the spot where he had just been.

Jay continued his activation for just another second and reached the creature.

It was already facing him, but since he already got there, he decided to slash again.

It tore through the flesh, but the gash it left behind was far smaller, as it didn't have the advantage of the first strike.

And then, he jumped back, activating Fleet-footed with the last of his remaining essence. A flower appeared and exploded, right next to the creature and where he had just been standing.

Jay was gasping for breath; after all, the past minute or so of battle had easily been the most intense thing he'd ever done in his entire life.

He took a glance at his adversary for a second before realising something. It was smaller. And weaker.

Not only had his slashes done a decent amount of damage, but the bleeding from the first one had weakened it.

But it seemed far too damaged for what were just two slashes. And then it struck Jay. The flowers.

Each flower it used, it was creating from its own flesh.

Jay's delight at this realisation was immeasurable, but he calmed himself down. The way it looked, it couldn't summon the flowers anymore, or if it did, it could summon one at the most.

And then, as the creature rushed towards him, he stopped thinking so much and stepped to the side.

An intense feeling death assaulted him, and he jumped to the side as far as possible.

A flower exploded, and unfortunately, without Fleet-footed, he wasn't able to get completely out of its rage. A small bit of blood landed on the back of his waist.

He screamed. dissolved through his clothes almost instantly, and was dissolving his flesh slowly, but surely, and very painfully at that.

He closed his mouth, gritted his teeth and ran towards the creature with all his might. It was much smaller and weaker now, barely the size of half of Jay's tiny bedroom.

The creature tried turn so that it's main mouth was facing Jay, but Jay reached the creature at that exact moment, and plunged his blade deep into the creature.

He dragged the blade downward with all his might and then pulled it out.

The creature finally let out a sound. A terrifying howl of pain.

And then, it died.

Jay collapsed to his knees as he stared at it.

After a seemingly eternal moment, the Spell's soft voice whispered:

[You have slain an Awakened Terror, Mental Architect.]

[Wake up, Jay! Your nightmare is over.]

[Prepare for appraisal...]
