Maya's POV
The ambulance doors fly open.
Paramedics wheel me out fast. Too fast. Everything blurs around me.
Another contraction rips through my body. I scream. Can't help it. The pain is everywhere.
"Breathe," Ethan says, running beside the stretcher. "Just breathe, Maya."
But I can't breathe. My baby is coming four weeks early. And Vanessa is waiting inside to steal her.
We burst through the hospital doors. Nurses rush toward us. Take over from the paramedics.
"How far apart are the contractions?" a nurse asks.
"Three minutes," the paramedic answers. "Water broke twenty minutes ago."
"Get her to Labor and Delivery. Now."
They wheel me down the hallway. Fluorescent lights flash above me. Making me dizzy. Making everything worse.
Then I see her.
Vanessa stands near the elevator. Two security guards beside her. She holds papers in her hand. The court order.
Our eyes meet.
She smiles.
"No!" I try to sit up. "Don't let her near my baby!"
