Maya's POV
"I need to see Derek," I tell the nurse. "Right now."
"Ms. Chen, you can't leave your room," she says gently. "Court orders."
"Then bring him here!" I'm not asking anymore. I'm demanding. "Bring Derek Walsh to me or I'm walking out of this hospital with my baby."
The nurse hesitates. Sees the determination on my face. "I'll see what I can do."
Twenty minutes later, they wheel Derek into my room. He's in a hospital bed. Bandages wrapped around his head. Face pale. Eyes haunted.
But he's alive. And he has answers.
Ethan follows behind Derek's bed. Two police officers guard the door.
"You have ten minutes," one officer says. "Then Mr. Walsh goes back to his room."
The door closes. We're alone. Sort of. The officers stand right outside.
"Tell me everything," I say to Derek. "No more lies. No more secrets."
Derek looks at Hope sleeping in my arms. His daughter. His eyes fill with tears.
"I'm sorry," he whispers. "For all of this. For everything I've done."
