Maya's POV
"Don't!" I scream as Ethan holds the match over the files.
"Give us the evidence or I burn it all," Ethan says to Patricia. "Your insurance. Your protection. Gone."
Patricia's face goes pale. "You wouldn't dare."
"Try me." The match burns closer to Ethan's fingers. "Tell your men to lower their guns."
"You'll destroy the proof of your father's murder," Patricia argues.
"I already know the truth," Ethan says coldly. "But you need these files. They're the only thing keeping you safe from all the people James blackmailed. Without them, you're just another murderer."
Patricia signals. Her men lower their guns slightly.
"Good," Ethan says. "Now back up. Let us leave."
"The police are already coming," Patricia reminds him.
"Then we better hurry." Ethan grabs my hand. "Maya, run."
We bolt for the door. Patricia's men try to block us but Ethan shoves past them. We sprint down the hallway. The files clutched tight in my arms.
Behind us, Patricia screams. "Stop them!"
