Maya's POV
"Play the video again," I demand. "I need to see exactly what Vanessa took."
Lisa's hands shake as she rewinds her phone. "I've watched it a hundred times. I still don't know what it is."
We watch again. Vanessa entering the office. Seeing James dead. Smiling. Then walking calmly to his desk.
"There," Ethan points. "She opens the middle drawer. Reaches in. Takes something small."
"Zoom in," I say.
Lisa zooms as much as her phone allows. The image gets blurry but we can see Vanessa's hand clearly.
She's holding something silver. Small enough to fit in her palm.
"A key?" Ethan guesses.
"Maybe," Marcus says. "James kept keys to everything. Safety deposit boxes. Storage units. Secret offices."
"Why would Vanessa want a key?" I ask.
"Because whatever that key unlocks is worth more than James's life," Marcus says grimly. "Worth more than Derek going to prison. Worth everything to Vanessa."
