Chapter 25 - Chapter 25: Slacking Off is the True Meaning of Life

Shino'o Academy.

The prototype of the Spiritual Arts Academy, and one of the origins of Yamamoto's nickname, "Genryūsai."

Central 46, in some respects, was quite true to its word. That afternoon, they sent a large amount of supplies, even more than double what was on the list.

Everyone saw it; we didn't force them; they did it voluntarily.

Furthermore, Central 46 also sent land approval, giving all the outer areas of Seireitei to the Gotei 13 for construction.

With money and territory now in hand, what was lacking were people.

And most importantly, the selection of the thirteen Captains.

At present, the Gotei 13, at full strength, only had a few individuals.

"Yamabuki, in what form do you think we should select the Captains?" Yamamoto asked.

A leader is the soul of an organization.

The selection of Captains was absolutely paramount.

Yamabuki took out his pre-prepared proposal: "To become a Captain of the Gotei 13, one only needs to meet one of the following three conditions."

"First, complete the Captain's assessment under the supervision of three Captains. As for the content of this assessment, we will discuss it in detail later."

"Second, be jointly recommended by six Captains, and at least four of the remaining seven Captains must not object, to assume the position of a Gotei 13 Captain!"

"Third, defeat a current Captain through strength, witnessed by the Captain-Commander and two hundred squad members."

"Are there any loopholes in these three points? Everyone can point them out," Yamabuki said.

Yamamoto nodded with great satisfaction; at least he didn't see any loopholes, and they could proceed according to these conditions in the future.

That evening, everyone drank and celebrated.

The next morning, the Tsunayashiro Family and the Shihōin family each sent a hundred people to serve as Yamabuki's assistants and go to Rukongai for publicity.

As the saying goes, even good wine needs a good advertisement.

Yamabuki, who had transmigrated from modern society, was all too aware of the importance of traffic and information.

To fully establish the Gotei 13, relying solely on these nobles was far from enough.

Yamabuki thus led two hundred people grandly to Rukongai, assigning each of them their respective tasks.

"For safety, work in groups of three and go to the nearby districts to promote the Gotei 13. Most people now are illiterate, right? Make sure to clearly explain the conditions and benefits of joining the Gotei 13. Remember, your attitude must be good. If anyone dares to bully people, don't blame me for settling the score with your family head!" Yamabuki directly draped the biggest tiger skin over himself.

I'm a professional at making accusations!

These people responsible for publicity held low positions among the nobles, so of course, they dared not disobey Yamabuki's orders.

After all, for the Soul Society of this era, laws had no binding force on nobles. Killing one's servants on a whim would not be condemned by anyone; everyone would simply consider it a matter of course!

Only when conflicts arose between nobles would the law have even a slight effect.

Soon, the two hundred people dispersed. Yamabuki naturally had very important things to do. He found a large tree and flipped onto a branch.

"Is there anything more important in this world than slacking off? I drank a bit too much last night, so I'll sleep first!" Yamabuki narrowed his eyes, stretched, and gently closed his eyes for a nap.

My ultimate goal is to retire! How could I possibly work hard?

Expanding the Gotei 13 now is also for my retirement, after all, the stronger and richer the organization, the more retirement money they will give me.

After sleeping for two or three hours in a daze, Yamabuki heard someone calling his name.

"Hmm? Did the Captain-Commander catch me slacking off?" Yamabuki stretched, turned his head, and saw that it was Chōjirō Sasakibe calling him.

"Eh? Chōjirō is back? Where's Tenjirō Kirinji?" Yamabuki asked, rubbing his eyes.

Chōjirō Sasakibe looked anxious and sad: "Big Brother Yamabuki, something happened!"

Yamabuki immediately sobered up.

Something happened? With Tenjirō Kirinji there, what could happen? That guy will enter the Zero Squad in the future, and his combat power is definitely not weaker than an ordinary Captain.

"Don't rush, speak slowly," Yamabuki said calmly.

Although Tenjirō Kirinji's strength a thousand years ago hadn't reached its peak, he was not weaker than Yamabuki himself now. Unless he encountered a Vasto Lorde or an Adjuchas, there would be no life-threatening danger.

Chōjirō Sasakibe said remorsefully, "Hanako and I followed Teacher Tenjirō to gather herbs. The first two days were quite normal, but on the third day, Teacher Tenjirō suddenly said someone was following us. At first, Teacher Tenjirō didn't pay much attention, but we walked through several districts without shaking them off. It wasn't until later... the other party took advantage of us resting and kidnapped Hanako. Teacher Tenjirō has been chasing them and told me to come back and report!"

Yamabuki frowned. Who was so bold? How dare they stir up trouble right under their noses! Didn't they know the Gotei 13 had just been established? Daring to capture our people? They must be tired of living!

Yamabuki took out a signal arrow from his embrace and shot it into the sky.

Soon, a black-clad figure flickered into existence before Yamabuki, kneeling on one knee: "Lord Yamabuki, what are your orders!"

Yamabuki was slightly surprised by the other party's Shunpo. Truly worthy of the Shihōin family; even a lowly servant could use Shunpo.

"What's your name?" Yamabuki asked.

"Feng Yuan, a low-ranking servant of the Shihōin family," the black-clad man replied respectfully.

Yamabuki observed his posture and movements for a moment and asked, "You practice assassination techniques?"

"Yes, sir. Do you want me to kill someone for you?" Feng Yuan asked.

"No, no, no, you misunderstood. When you return to the Gotei 13, help me spread a message: tell them Tenjirō Kirinji was attacked outside, and I'm rushing to support him now. I might not be able to return for a few days," Yamabuki said.

"Yes." Feng Yuan didn't ask for other reasons.

"By the way, your skills are good. Would you like to try taking the Gotei 13 assessment? You could get a low-ranking noble status then, which is better than being a servant for life," Yamabuki said with a smile, then reached out and grabbed Chōjirō Sasakibe's waist: "You lead the way; we're going to save your sister now!"

A glint flashed in Feng Yuan's eyes.

Could someone of my low status really participate in the Gotei 13 assessment?

Of course, joining the Gotei 13 doesn't mean betraying the Shihōin family. Even if I become a low-ranking noble, I will still be loyal to the Shihōin family!

And once I become a low-ranking noble, my wife and son will also have better treatment! That's great!
