The shadows swallowed him completely, leaving Theron alone with his guards. For a moment, Kael's brother just stood there, staring at the space where Daemon had been. His expression was complicated. Regret mixed with determination. Doubt mixed with hunger.
Then he shook his head, mounted his horse, and gestured for his guards to follow. Within minutes, they were riding back toward the castle, retracing their path.
We waited until they were completely out of sight before moving. Kael stood slowly, his whole body trembling with barely contained rage.
"My brother," he said, his voice hollow. "My own brother has been poisoning my wife. Planning to murder me. Working with the uncle who killed my mother. All for a throne he was never meant to have."
