The response from the mysterious correspondent came two weeks later.

Master Finn brought the letter to our attention immediately, which either meant he was genuinely cooperating or was smart enough to know we were monitoring his correspondence anyway.

"They want to meet," he explained, spreading the letter on the council table. "In neutral territory. They claim they have information about the Architect that could benefit both the crown and the old families."

"It's obviously a trap," Lady Bloodmoon said immediately. "No one offers valuable information without ulterior motive."

"Agreed," Lord Corvain added. "But the question is what kind of trap? Assassination attempt? Kidnapping? Political manipulation?"

I studied the letter carefully. The handwriting was educated, the language formal but not flowery. Whoever wrote this was intelligent and careful.

"Where do they want to meet?" Kael asked.
