Chapter 154 - Chapter 154: Angel Strike—Again

"That giant. It's back."

NERV Germany. Commander Kiel stared at the screen. Mountains collapsed. The earth split open. Ultraman and the kaiju—locked in combat.

His weathered face twisted. Disbelief.

"Two entities. No AT Fields. Yet this much power..."

He knew the world's secrets. Knew the strongest beings should be gods—Adam, Lilith. If the ritual succeeded, humanity would merge. Gain the ultimate AT Field.

But the giant. And now this beast. Both shattered everything he understood.

Beings that surpassed gods. Without AT Fields.

No. Maybe their definition of "god" was wrong from the start.

What were their so-called gods compared to these two?

"Angel wave detected! Pacific Ocean, near Japan!"

A technician's voice cut through. Sharp. Urgent.

"Target: Tokyo-3. Route passes through Tokyo-2!"

An Angel. Now. In the middle of this.

Ghost Angel was confirmed dead. This one woke naturally.

"Put it on screen." Kiel's brow furrowed behind his visor.

"Yes, sir!"

The main display shifted. A massive black shape—like a spider. Already on land. Moving toward Tokyo-3. About to pass Tokyo-2.

The Ninth Angel. Matarael.

"Matarael..." Kiel muttered.

Everywhere it walked, the ground dissolved. Strong acid. A corrosion-type Angel.

Meanwhile.

"An Angel. Right now?"

Misato Katsuragi listened to the report. Watched Matarael on screen. Her mind raced through options.

"Unit-00 self-destructed... Units-02 and -03 heavily damaged..."

None of their EVAs could deploy. No way to provide support.

"But..." Kaworu Nagisa stepped into the command room. His expression calm as always. "Do they really need our support?"

He glanced at the other screen. The battle.

"If Matarael enters that fight... given its abilities..."

He left the rest unsaid. Let them imagine.

An Angel. Walking into the middle of Ultraman versus kaiju. What would happen?

"I suppose... you're right." Misato looked at the screen. The terrain—completely reshaped. She pictured it. Dismissed her concerns.

[1:51]

FWOOSH! FWOOSH!

Two golden Destruction Beams shot skyward. The giant twisted mid-air. Dodged. Both beams punched through the clouds.

The sky—already chaos from their battle. Half-overcast weather torn apart. Holes in the cloud layer. Sunlight spilling through. Brilliant. Blinding.

"Now!"

Super Gob's attack window. Open.

Ultraman crossed his arms. Energy gathered. Brief. Focused.

"SKREEE!" Super Gob fired another Destruction Beam.

Ultraman's arms split—vertical. The gathered energy released. Formed a crescent blade.

Vertical Guillotine!

BOOM!

The Guillotine met the Destruction Beam head-on. Energy clashed. Ground against each other. The Guillotine won. Barely. Pushed through. Sliced toward Super Gob on the ground.

Fast. A line through the air. The atmosphere screamed. Hit dead-on.

"SKREEE!"

Both energies detonated on Super Gob. It raised its scythe-arms. Blocked. Still took damage. Its massive body staggered back one step.

[1:45]

"Press the advantage!"

"Got it!"

No pause after the Guillotine.

Ultraman's arms—still split from the attack—snapped into a cross. Aimed at Super Gob's head.

VWOOM!

Spacium Beam!

Blue light erupted mid-air. Shockwave rippled outward. Ultraman's body kicked back slightly. The beam crossed the distance in a blink. Struck Super Gob.

"SKREEE!" Super Gob raised both scythes. Crossed them. Used its hardest parts to block.

Searing heat. Massive energy. Building. Building. The air ionized. Plasma formed. A heat wave rolled outward. Crashed into the cratered ground.

The attack couldn't break through Super Gob's defense directly. But the heat—extreme. The soil beneath its feet melted. Rock turned to magma. It sank. Slowly.

Three kilometers. The air at the center—plasma. The rest—distorted by heat. A burning hell.

Nothing could survive this. Not living things. Not even the air. Not even the earth.

"We're this far away and I can still feel it!"

"It's so hot!"

The heat spread. Swept across the wasteland. Raced toward the city. Cooled with distance but still reached the evacuation convoy. Kensuke Aida—pressed against the back of the transport, binoculars in hand—felt the wave hit his face.

Like opening a freshly heated oven. Not lethal. But terrifying.

[1:38]

"SKREEE!" Super Gob held against the Spacium Beam. Looked up. Fired two Destruction Beams at the giant in the sky.

Ultraman had no choice. Abandoned the attack.

Angled the beam upward.

BOOM! BOOM!

The Destruction Beams hit the Spacium Beam mid-air. Energy collided. Exploded. Like two missiles detonating in the sky. A violent gale swept toward the ground.

The Spacium Beam continued. Swept across the earth behind Super Gob. Blue light carved a long scar. The impact tore a trench. Heat melted rock layers. A deep, terrible wound.

If Ultraman hadn't cut the beam, the damage would've been worse.

[1:35]

"SKREEEE!"

A different sound. Discordant. Intruding on the battlefield.

A massive black spider—dozens of meters tall—crested a distant mountain. Six kilometers away.
