The Fulgur Anjanath's massive nose twitched. It smelled something unfamiliar. It turned its head and saw two small dots in the distance. To the massive beast, Zhang and Kuro were insignificant.

Normally, the Fulgur Anjanath wouldn't have bothered with them. They were too small to be a meal. But now, it was hungry, and it didn't mind a small dessert before the main course.
"Kuro, get ready," Zhang said softly, drawing his Long Sword.
"Okay, meow!" Kuro nodded.
The sky in the New World was dark, just like the Old World at night. This meant Zhang and Kuro, both clad in Nargacuga armor, benefited from the full 200% speed boost from their shared ability.
"Go!" Zhang charged, his Nargacuga Long Sword held ready. Kuro, also wielding a cat-sized Long Sword, followed close behind.
"Roar!" Seeing the two tiny dots dare to attack it, the Fulgur Anjanath was enraged. It felt humiliated. It opened its mouth, electricity crackling around its body, and launched itself at them. This was its special Thunder Rush skill, and it was incredibly fast.
Zhang could have dodged, but he didn't. "Water Moon Stance!" he yelled. He raised his blade horizontally as two Wirebugs shot out, weaving a net of light and energy in front of him.
BOOM!
The Fulgur Anjanath crashed head-on into the light net and was instantly thrown back. It staggered a dozen steps before collapsing, its face a mess of deep cuts that exposed the bone beneath. This was the result of Zhang's true power: a combination of hunter skills and the immense strength and speed granted by his Pokémonized Nargacuga gear. He was stronger than any normal hunter of his level, perhaps even stronger than his own Nargacuga.
"Die, meow!" Kuro leaped from behind Zhang, raising his own tiny sword and slashing at the Fulgur Anjanath's eyes. The beast quickly turned its head and struggled to its feet.
CLICK!
Kuro's blade slashed open the Fulgur Anjanath's jaw, but for a creature of its size, the wound was trivial.
"Roar!" The Fulgur Anjanath stood up and spat a dozen balls of electrified saliva at them.
"Too slow, meow!" Kuro scurried to the side like a large black rat, easily dodging the attack. He then grabbed the giant boomerang from his back and threw it.
At the same time, Zhang used a Wirebug to launch himself into the air, landing directly on the Fulgur Anjanath's head.
BANG!
Kuro's boomerang struck the beast's body, opening another wound, but it wasn't a critical hit.
"Helm Breaker!" From his position atop the beast's head, Zhang fell, his sharp blade slicing down. He cut halfway through the Fulgur Anjanath's skull before pulling back at the last second. If he hadn't, the monster would be dead. His equipment gave him the same base stats and abilities as his Pokémonized Nargacuga; he was a human version of the swift wyvern. A normal hunter could never have dealt such a devastating blow.
BANG!
The Fulgur Anjanath's head smashed into the ground, and it was instantly knocked unconscious.
"Meowster Zhang, you're so powerful," Kuro said, looking at him with admiration.
"It was nothing," Zhang smiled, tossing a Poké Ball at the fallen monster. It shook a few times, then settled.

At that moment, the system displayed two separate notifications, one after the other, causing Zhang to blink in confusion. The first was for the Fulgur Anjanath, and the second was for the completion of his Mutation Evolution quest.

Zhang was impressed. The Pink Rathian had a better stat distribution than the original, with stronger attack and higher speed. But what really caught his eye was its new exclusive skill. A move that ignored defense was essentially a true damage skill. Against an opponent with super-high defense, the Pink Rathian could become his new trump card.
A blue light flashed, and Zhang and Kuro were teleported back to his house in Kamura Village.
"A 24-hour cooldown. Not too long. I can do another one tomorrow evening," he noted. He released all his Pokémon and began their training regimen, having Escuregot heal the newly captured Fulgur Anjanath.
The next morning, Zhang woke up early. "Only four days left until the Global Junior Tournament. I have to hurry. I need to get that Rider's Bondstone, and I still need to catch a Seregios."
After quickly washing up, he and Kuro mounted the Mizutsune and set off for Bherna Village.
"Master Zhang, why are we coming to Bherna Village, meow?" Kuro asked.
"I want to subdue a Seregios. There aren't any around Kamura, so I came here," Zhang explained.
They arrived at the Bherna Village guild office.
"Hello, visiting hunter! Is there anything I can help you with?" the quest maiden asked with a polite smile. The Nargacuga armor Zhang wore was a clear sign of his skill.
"I want to hunt a Seregios. Do you have a quest for one?" Zhang asked.
"We do, but... I don't recognize you, sir. I cannot assign such a dangerous quest without proof of your skill. If you were to perish, it would be my sin," the maiden explained.
"This is simple," Zhang said, taking out the mission certificates for the Tigrex, Mizutsune, Zinogre, and Astalos.
The maiden's eyes widened as she looked at them. "You're the Rider from Kamura Village! A pleasure to meet you, Master Zhang," she said with a bow. "The guild has already sent word. You do not need to bring back monster parts to complete your quests; your captures are sufficient."
"I didn't expect my reputation to have spread this far," Zhang said, surprised.
