Chapter 26 - Epilogue

Across from the northern shore of Kamikochi and in the land of Inohara, seated deep within the Inari forests. A singular, towering and gargantuan tree that stands almost as wide as it is tall, juts into the sky, like a mountain of knotted wood and bark. From its roots to its smallest of budding leaves, delicate red vines choked the enormous structure. Clinging between the crevices of its bark and tracing their grooves like a carefully constructed network. The towering force of nature that overlooked the lands, and even rose high enough to gaze out over the sea, stood littered with balconies and winding paths, staircases and lifts, as well as doorways and corridors, making it clear that the tree sustained more life than just its own. At its highest point, where the paths and walkways that rose into the sky had come to an end. A woman inside a carved out and ornate room, sat on top of a throne molded from the sprawling red vines that seemed to all converge beneath her…

"Is everything okay Lady Sionnah? You've been staring off in that same direction for quite some time now…" Said the voice of a red-furred Kitsune woman who stood beside the ominous figure. "Sadhbh…" Said the voice of the woman as she rose from her seat. Like her Kitsunse attendant that stood beside her, a swinging and expressive tail followed behind her figure, yet unlike her attendant… she in fact had nine separate tails that swirled from behind her body. Each one clad in white fur that matched the long slender white ears perched atop the woman's head. "Sadhbh… it has been some time since the wheels of this world have changed their pace…" Her voice filled the room, almost like the sound of a songbird in a silent wood. She stepped out onto the balcony and placed her hands on the railing, the redvine that covered the structure seemingly coming alive and creeping towards her. "But as of recently… The wisdom of the Redvine tells me a change of pace is coming…" She added, letting her voice trail off a bit as one of the vines made contact with her hand, and as it did it appeared to merge with her form. Crossing the boundary of her flesh as if it were never there in the first place. Leaving no trace of wound or injury as it did. "Lady Sionnah… does this have something to do with that eruption of light we saw coming from the Sentoki Nation a few weeks ago?" The attendant asked. "I'm not sure… but my sources tell me there is a Kami who has gone to Kamikochi… This is something that has not happened for thousands of years… And my instincts tell me that we should prepare for visitors…" The woman said in her lofty cadence as she turned back towards her attendant and retook her place on the vine covered throne.

She looked over at the Kitsune woman beside her and bore a soft smile, her face radiant with a truly unique kind of beauty. The soft white hair that fell from her head gave way a bit as she turned, revealing an array of red vines that seemed to bury into her scalp no differently than the hair did. "Dont look so concerned, Sadhbh. I don't think these visitors will be of any dangerous ilk… but I wonder.." Her voice seemed to be addressing the room now rather than just her attendant as her gaze once again took hold of the Island nation that lay across the sea and sat on the horizon… Why have the Sentoki suddenly piqued your interest… Okuninushi?"
