Chapter 30 - Chapter 30

Barbara Gordon, still clad in her Batgirl suit, though with her cowl pulled back, enters the Batcave. Weariness tugs at her, a blend of physical exhaustion from the chase and mental fatigue from the sheer strangeness of the night. She had never encountered anything like this. Harley and Ivy were weird, but these… Pokémon? That was new.

The Batcave sprawls beneath Wayne Manor, a colossal space carved from the bedrock itself. High-tech workstations hum with power, bathed in the cool glow of monitors displaying complex data streams. The Batmobile, a sleek, armored beast, rests in its designated bay, ready to roar to life at a moment's notice. Gadgets of every conceivable type line the walls, testaments to Batman's endless ingenuity and paranoia, all crafted with a distinct Bat-themed aesthetic.

Batman stands before a massive holographic display, his brow furrowed in concentration as he examines a three-dimensional rendering of Gotham's power grid. Robin, katana in hand, practices his swordplay against a training dummy, each strike precise and lethal. Nightwing leans over a monitor, reviewing patrol routes and crime statistics, his fingers dancing across the keyboard with practiced ease.

Alfred Pennyworth, ever the attentive butler, approaches Barbara with a warm smile. "Welcome back, Miss Barbara. A trying night, I presume?" He holds out a steaming cup. "Allow me to offer you a cup of tea. Earl Grey, as always?"

"Thanks, Alfred," Barbara says, gratefully accepting the tea. "You have no idea."

Batman, ever vigilant, turns from his holographic display, his gaze intense. He is the brooding, hyper-focused leader, driven by an insatiable desire for justice and a relentless commitment to protecting Gotham. He is the rock, the immovable object, and the unwavering force against the rising tide of crime.

Robin, eager to prove himself, sheathes his katana and strides towards Barbara, his expression a mix of curiosity and arrogance. He is the skilled but headstrong protégé, yearning to step out of Batman's shadow and forge his own legend. He is the blade, sharp and deadly, honed to perfection by the League of Assassins.

Nightwing, the cheerful, acrobatic heart of the family, approaches Barbara with a concerned look. He is the empathetic soul, the glue that holds the Bat-Family together. He is the light, a beacon of hope in Gotham's darkness, reminding everyone that even in the face of despair, there is always reason to smile.

Alfred Pennyworth, the calm, witty, and ever-supportive butler, stands slightly apart, his presence a steadying influence on the chaotic energy of the Bat-Family. He is the anchor, the voice of reason, the surrogate father who keeps them grounded.

"What happened, Babs?" Nightwing asks, his voice laced with concern. "You look like you've seen a ghost."

Barbara sighs, taking a sip of her tea. "It's… complicated. I ran into Harley and Ivy. They weren't alone."

"Let me guess, another one of their schemes?" Batman asks, his voice a low growl.

"Something like that," Barbara says. "But this time, they had… creatures with them. Things I've never seen before."

She reaches into a pouch on her belt and pulls out the fur and leaves she collected from the scene. "I managed to snag some samples." She also pulls out the security footage on a small hard drive. "And I also got the bank's security footage."

Barbara plugs the hard drive into the Batcomputer and displays the security footage. The footage shows Harley and Ivy robbing the Gotham National Bank. Harley orders Houndour to attack and Ivy orders Budew to use Absorb.

Robin scoffs, his expression dismissive. "A dog and a plant?"

"Maybe," Barbara says. "But they're also effective. And I want to know what they are."

She approaches the Batcomputer and inserts the fur and leaves samples. The Batcomputer whirls to life, its powerful processors analyzing the samples with incredible speed.

"Initial analysis complete," the Batcomputer announces. "Samples are organic in nature. Composition is unlike anything known on Earth."

Barbara frowns. "What do you mean?"

"Genetic structure does not match any known species. Samples do not appear to be genetically altered animals."

"These aren't animals," Barbara says, turning to face the others. "At least, not as we know them."

A stunned silence descends upon the Batcave. The Bat-Family exchanges perplexed glances, their minds struggling to comprehend the implications of Barbara's words.

"What are these things?" Batman asks, his voice a low rumble.

"They look ridiculous," Robin repeats, his tone dismissive.

"Well, whatever they are," Nightwing says, his brow furrowed in concern, "they're helping villains commit crimes."

The Bat-Family expects finding out the origins of these creatures to be difficult. Barbara is about to start analyzing interdimensional travel, but stops herself. Maybe I'm overthinking this, she thinks to herself.

"It can't hurt to look up on the internet," Barbara says.

All it took was a quick search of the internet. Barbara is surprised at how easy it is to find information about the creatures with a simple internet search.

"This is… strange," Barbara says, staring at the results. "I was expecting to have to delve into some obscure genetic research or something. But… it's all right here."

She clicks on a link, leading her to a series of videos on HeroTube. The videos feature a man named Orion Oak, a bright building called Pokémon Home, and explanations of Pokémon battles.

Nightwing frowns, peering over her shoulder. "Pokémon? What is this, some kind of weird cosplay thing?"

Barbara shakes her head, her eyes wide with disbelief. "No, look closer."

The video shows a Pokémon battle between Harley and Ivy. "This is the same creatures that robbed the bank with Harley and Ivy!" Barbara says.

But then, another video catches her eye. It's a Pokémon battle between Ms. Marvel and Squirrel Girl.

Nightwing's eyes widen in surprise. "Wait a minute… is that Kamala and Doreen?"

Barbara can't believe it! They have Pokémon too?"

They watch the footage of Harley and Ivy's battle and the one between Ms. Marvel and Squirrel Girl.

"They look like they're having fun," Nightwing says.

"Did they also get their Pokémon from this Pokémon Home store, too?" Barbara asks.

The Bat-Family is a mixture of disbelief and wonder. They wonder who this Orion Oak is. They do a background check on Orion Oak through the Batcomputer, but they found everything was normal. But he is somehow selling these creatures called Pokémon. This raises suspicion among the Bat-Family.

"This is all very strange," Batman says, his voice low and thoughtful. "This Orion Oak… he's selling these 'Pokémon' to anyone. We need to know more about him, his operation, and these creatures."

Barbara nods, her determination hardening. "I'm going to check this place out. Find out what's really going on. I need to know more about these things and what kind of influence Orion Oak has."

Batman and Nightwing exchange concerned glances. "Barbara, are you sure that's wise?" Nightwing asks, his voice laced with worry. "We don't know what we're dealing with here. It could be dangerous."

"I agree with Dick," Batman says, his gaze intense. "Going in alone is reckless. We don't know what side this Orion Oak is on. We should call in the Justice League."

"I can handle this," Barbara insists, her voice firm. "I need to see this with my own eyes and assess the situation firsthand." She glances at the images of Kamala and Doreen. "Besides, if Ms. Marvel and Squirrel Girl haven't shut it down, it can't be all that bad, so no need for the League."

"But the risk…" Batman starts, but Barbara cuts him off.

"I know them! They're heroes, too, and if they haven't put a stop to it, there has to be more to the story. And they made a video. I'm sure this is going to be fine."

Batman studies her, his expression unreadable. "Very well," he says, his voice brooking no argument. "But if anything goes wrong, Barbara, you call for backup. Immediately. Understood?"

"Understood," Barbara replies, nodding firmly.

"Alfred, prep the Batcycle," Batman says, turning away to resume his work. "Nightwing, assist me in analyzing these… Pokémon. We need to be prepared for any eventuality."

Barbara smiles gratefully at Alfred before heading off to gear up for her reconnaissance mission, a mix of excitement and trepidation swirling within her.
