Chapter 103 - Chapter 103

Orion Oak stood in the bright center of the Battle Arena, a picture of calm confidence. Above him, Latias, in her human form, moved with quiet grace, her hands weaving subtle patterns as she guided a camera drone with her mind. The small device drifted through the air, capturing every angle for the eager audience. Orion looked directly into its lens, a warm smile gracing his features.

"Welcome, dear friends, to the inaugural Pokémon Tournament!" Orion's voice resonated through the arena, carrying a light, inviting quality. "I am Orion Oak, your host, and the proud owner of Pokémon Home."

He gestured to the surrounding crowd. "Today, we celebrate the bonds between Trainers and their Pokémon, showcasing the skill, strategy, and heart that defines our journey together."

A small holographic display, visible only to Orion and Latias, flickered with comments from the livestream. Five hundred eager viewers tuned in, their excitement a constant stream of scrolling text. Some recognized Orion from his HeroTube videos, having followed the tales of his unique establishment. Others, drawn by recent news of interdimensional creatures, watched with a healthy mix of curiosity and mild apprehension. They had heard the whispers of Pokémon, seen the scattered reports, and now, they were here to witness the phenomenon firsthand.

"The rules are simple," Orion continued, his voice clear and unwavering. "This is a single-elimination, one-on-one battle. A Trainer loses when their Pokémon is no longer able to battle."

"Our first challengers are two heroes of incredible renown!" Orion's voice boomed. "On one side, we have Batgirl, a tactical genius whose mind is as sharp as her Batarangs! She's Gotham's shining intellect, a master of strategy and agile combat. Don't let her bright colors fool you; she's a force to be reckoned with."

The livestream comments scrolled rapidly.

'Go Batgirl!'

'Brains and Batarangs FTW!'

'Froakie for the win!'

'Is this a real superhero fight?'

"And on the other side," Orion continued, his smile broadening, "we have the one and only Squirrel Girl! With her unstoppable optimism and unparalleled connection to nature, Doreen Green proves that kindness, a good chat, and a whole army of squirrels can overcome any challenge! She's the hero who always finds a way, even if that way involves snacks!"

'Squirrel Girl is unbeatable!'

'Emolga! Emolga!'

'Nuts to crime, literally.'

'Wait, squirrels? What even are Pokémon?'

Orion chuckled, noticing a comment about the "real" nature of the fight. He knew the depth of the competition. This was no mere friendly sparring session; this was a chance for these Trainers to push their limits and show the world the true spirit of Pokémon.

"It is time to choose our battlefield!" Orion announced, his voice carrying over the murmuring crowd. "The arena's technology allows for random environmental transformations."

A holographic screen materialized in the center of the arena, cycling rapidly through various landscapes. Lush forests gave way to sandy deserts, then aquatic zones with swirling currents, and finally to volcanic peaks spewing digital lava. The audience watched with bated breath as the randomizer spun, slowing with each passing image. It finally settled on a jagged, rocky terrain. Images of scattered boulders, sharp cliffs, and uneven ground flashed across the screen. This would be a challenging and dynamic battleground.

The Battle Arena hummed with a deep, resonant chord. WHUMP. The floor beneath Batgirl and Squirrel Girl began to shift and buckle, a geological ballet unfolding in fast-forward. Jagged peaks of simulated rock erupted from the ground, reaching skyward. CRACKLE. Large, craggy boulders materialized, appearing as if pulled from a deep, ancient quarry. The air cooled, tasting faintly of damp stone and mineral. RUMBLE. Narrow crevices snaked across the battlefield, splitting the ground and casting long, dancing shadows. Batgirl and Squirrel Girl stood ready, their Pokémon poised for battle.

"It is time to send out our Pokémon!" Orion announced, his voice carrying a sense of anticipation that rippled through the audience. "Batgirl, if you please, reveal your chosen partner!"

Batgirl, ever the strategist, met the challenge with a determined glint in her eyes. She released her Pokémon with a confident flick of her wrist.

"Come out, Froakie!"

POP

Froakie landed lightly on a jagged rock, its blue form a stark contrast to the dark stone. Its half-lidded eyes calmly assessed the rocky environment, a quiet intensity in its gaze.

"And now, Squirrel Girl, your turn!" Orion's enthusiasm was infectious.

Doreen, with an excited grin, threw her Poké Ball skyward.

"Let's go, Emolga!"

POP

Emolga zipped into the air, its white fur a flash against the dark rock formations. Its yellow cheek pouches sparked with anticipation, ready for the battle ahead. Both Pokémon were poised, their trainers' determination reflected in their stances. The arena was set.

"Trainers, prepare for battle!" Orion's voice echoed across the arena, a clear signal for the action to begin. "Let the first match of the Pokémon Tournament commence!"

Batgirl's focus sharpened, her eyes tracking Froakie's every twitch. She moved her hand in a precise arc.

"Froakie, use Pound!"

Froakie launched itself from its rocky perch, a streak of blue against the grey stone. It darted towards Emolga, closing the distance with incredible speed.

"Emolga, Tail Whip!" Squirrel Girl called out, a playful urgency in her tone.

Emolga executed a quick mid-air flip, its fluffy tail flicking out. The tail struck Froakie just as it connected with Emolga.

WHUMP

Froakie's Pound landed, a solid physical blow that sent a jolt through Emolga. Emolga spun from the impact, but its Tail Whip had done its job, a subtle weakening washing over Froakie.

"Froakie, Growl!" Batgirl commanded, pressing her advantage.

Froakie let out a soft, yet firm, cry that rippled across the arena. Emolga's movements faltered, a slight hesitation in its typically boundless energy.

"Quick Attack, Emolga!" Squirrel Girl countered, her voice sharp and decisive.

Emolga zipped forward, a blur of white and black fur. It struck Froakie with impressive speed, a fast physical blow landing squarely on its target.

ZAP

"Water Gun, Froakie!" Batgirl's voice was quick, almost overlapping with the last impact.

Froakie compressed a sphere of water, firing a focused jet directly at the airborne Emolga. The stream of water arced through the air.

"Thundershock, Emolga!" Squirrel Girl shouted, a mischievous glint in her eyes.

Emolga, mid-flight, unleashed a weak electrical charge from its cheek pouches. The crackling electricity met the incoming Water Gun, both attacks colliding in a brilliant flash.

CRACKLE

Mist and sparks erupted where the two attacks met, briefly obscuring Emolga. Batgirl narrowed her eyes, observing Emolga's precise movements through the dissipating mist. Her strategic mind noted the Electric/Flying type's advantage over Froakie's Water type. She mentally began devising ways to exploit Emolga's predictability in the air.

Squirrel Girl watched Froakie's agile dodges, impressed by the Water-type's swiftness. She started brainstorming new, unconventional ways to combine Emolga's speed and electric power. The initial exchanges were a tactical dance, each Trainer testing the other, leaving the outcome of the battle in question.
