At this moment Cane's eyes and mouth were covered, but his ears weren't; Therefore he could hear things with his ears and he did.
"Shh... stay still or do you want to be caught by those bastards."
A male voice was silently talking, the voice was neither too high nor to low it felt almost comforting, at least it would if he did not sound so hoarse.
Hearing the man, Cane noticed that he was moving his body, flailing his arms around. So he stopped.
Meanwhile the man ran past them shouting around about not knowing where the boy was. Afterwards the man let go of the boy, revealing himself.
After Cane was released he saw that he was inside a room and the man who now stood in front of him.
The man looked like every other person, he wore the same rag like clothes and dirty like the others. The man had several small scars around his hands, including his fingers, he was tall almost reaching 180 cm. Similar to Cane, the man had brown hair, but with white streaks, and in contrast to Cane's blue eyes the man had brown eyes and tanned skin.
Seeing the boys penetrating eyes the man chuckled for a short time then opened his crusty lips.
"You know that staring at strangers is a rude act. For starters my name is Hawk, may I know yours?"
Looking at the man the boy opened his mouth a low voice escaping it.
"Cane."
Looking at the Boy the man asked staring at the boy walking aid.
"Cane? Cane like walking Cane?"
Hearing the man, Cane nodded his head.
Hawk couldn't believe his ears, which parent named their son Cane? Ignoring the fact the man looked at the boy and asked him why those idiots were chasing him.
Cane explained what happened, explaining how he found the crystal and how he got beat up and later finding food, of course he didn't say anything about his ability because it didn't benefit revealing it to a stranger.
A grin formed on the mans face, before Cane could make out the meaning of the grin, hawk spoke.
"I like you."
The boy shivered hearing the mans confession and slowly backed away. Hawk saw Cane's reaction and immediately tried to explain what he meant.
"What I mean is that you and I are similar. Like me, you stole from those who hoarded the food, just like me. Only in those point how old are you?"
While asking, the man took a bottle of water and began to drink a small amount of it.
"Seventeen," the boy answered
Hearing the answer the man chocked on his water and he began to cough. Hawk put the water away, after he stopped coughing.
"What! You look too young, you barely look thirteen. Man am I jealous of your genes... That sounds a bit wrong, I don't mean it in a weird way."
Cane didn't know what he meant, also Cane didn't know how to respond. Thus he remained silent creating an awkward silence.
"Do you want me to help you?" the man asked the teenage boy.
Hearing the man's suggestion, Cane looked at the serious man looking the man into his brown eyes:"Why?"
"I already said that you and I are similar. You seem to be a loner and I know what that is like, and I assume you must also know what that feels like... I don't know if you really know these guys but when they see you, they will surely beat you up or even worse. Let me help you and teach you I know my ways fighting other people."
Cane knew them they were Dorian's lackeys. Back when his legs were hurt, he heard some stories where some people disappeared, but it didn't matter here in the outer district, here was no one punishing those guys.
"Okay..." Cane gave the man his answer
"Really, why would you trust a stranger that easily?" the man was shocked.
"If I don't join you I will surely be hunted, maybe there is a chance that you kill me but my survival chances increase drastically."
The man could only laugh:"Then let us haste, you must know that I am not from this area my place takes some minutes to get to."
The boy nodded and walked beside the man, while walking they both stayed silent. Cane concentrated on the street hoping to not see Dorian's lackeys. Hawk on the other hand looked relaxed only coughing a couple of times.
The duo walked for some hours, walking further outside the district getting closer to the area where no one lived, because of chaos creatures roaming around outside of the outer district.
Suddenly Hawk stopped, Cane walked for a couple of meters and also stopped wandering why the man stopped.
Turning around Cane saw that the man, who he followed until here, was pointing a knife at him standing directly in front of him.
Cane's heart pounded incredibly fast he almost fell to his knees, he knew the man was sketchy but he was one of two only people, that were nice to him.
"You failed," the man said with a serious, his brown eyes lost the warmth the man had while hiding him. A split second later the man smiled and put his knife away.
"What... Are you crazy! Is this a joke?" Cane shouted at the man.
"No, I will train you. I already said that I wanted to help you, but in your current condition you are of no help. For a seventeen you are to small and light, you also look like you have no fighting experience. You can also call me teacher if you want"
Cane couldn't deny what the man said, he didn't look his age and the only experience he had in fighting was getting beat up.
The man went inside a big square shaped building, which was surrounded by nature, telling the boy to follow him.
Cane didn't hesitate and followed his new teacher inside the building.
