Chapter 49 - The Best Way to Get to Know Each Other!

Might Guy landed on the open ground before them, the impact sending a gust sweeping across the field. The wind was strong enough that even Satoru had to narrow his eyes slightly.

Standing before them now was a young man with a bowl-cut hairstyle, thick eyebrows, and a bright green jumpsuit. The outfit made him look like some sort of humanoid kappa, and the sight of the real Might Guy for the first time made Hyuga Satoru's eye twitch involuntarily.

"Yo!"

"Good morning, my new teammates!!!"

Guy flashed them a thumbs-up, grinning with a dazzling smile so bright that Satoru momentarily wondered if this man was secretly sponsored by a toothpaste company.

That over-the-top, chunibyo-style entrance—yes, this was definitely the Might Guy.

"Uh… h-hello, Might Guy," Uchiha Shisui stammered. Clearly, Guy's blinding enthusiasm had left him a little stunned.

Aburame Shibi, on the other hand, only scratched his head as if he'd expected it, walking up to pat Guy kindly on the shoulder.

Despite his goofy appearance and loud introduction, Guy had quietly observed both Satoru and Shisui the moment he arrived. A ninja could hide his aura, but not the traces of training.

Even though Satoru was still young, there were calluses on his palms, and Shisui's hands showed the same marks of discipline.

"Alright, everyone's here now."

"This is Might Guy—you've probably heard his self-introduction already," Shibi said calmly, gesturing toward Guy. "Guy, this is chunin Uchiha Shisui. And this," he added, turning toward Satoru, "is Special jonin Hyuga Satoru."

With the team assembled, Shibi made the introductions official. He already knew Guy, so there was no need for formalities between them.

"Please take care of me!!"

Guy bent slightly to meet the younger boys at eye level, his grin earnest and full of energy.

"Hyuga Satoru, right? I've heard about you!" he said, squatting down with an excited gleam in his eyes. "I heard you beat Kakashi! Well done!!"

Satoru's name was well-known throughout Konoha's ninja circles—after all, he'd "stepped over Kakashi" to earn his rank. Of course Guy, Kakashi's self-proclaimed eternal rival, had heard about it.

And judging by his tone, there was a clear hint of schadenfreude behind that enthusiasm.

"Kakashi-senpai went easy on me, that's all," Satoru replied modestly. He didn't believe Kakashi had fought seriously back then—he'd merely been careless and got caught off guard.

"Hahaha! Even so, that just means you're strong!" Guy declared, giving Satoru's shoulder a hearty slap.

At that moment, Aburame Shibi clapped his hands to bring everyone's focus back.

"Alright, enough small talk for now. There's something important we need to discuss."

The other three immediately turned their attention to him.

"Our squad is newly formed," Shibi continued. "We won't be given major missions right away—but that doesn't mean we can take it easy."

"Every mission a ninja undertakes dances along the edge of life and death. We can't afford to be careless."

"So before the higher-ups start assigning us tasks, I want our team to build coordination—to understand one another and develop trust."

"Only then will we have a better chance of surviving in future missions."

His calm but firm tone quickly cooled the earlier cheerful atmosphere.

"I'll start," Shibi said after a moment. "My name is Aburame Shibi, from the Aburame clan. I'm an insect user—my strengths lie in sensory detection and intelligence gathering. In battle, I primarily fight through insect manipulation."

After his concise self-introduction, he looked to Guy, who gave a small nod and spoke next:

"Might Guy—specialty: close-combat taijutsu!"

Short and to the point.

Shisui followed, clearly understanding the purpose behind the introductions. His eyes shifted, spinning into the pattern of the two-tomoe Sharingan as he began:

"My Sharingan has already awakened. I'm skilled in reconnaissance, genjutsu, Fire Release, and shurikenjutsu. My fighting style is… mostly mid- to long-range."

Comprehensive indeed. Shisui had balanced training in ninjutsu, taijutsu, and genjutsu—he was easily the most "complete" ninja among them.

After he finished, all eyes naturally turned to Satoru.

Compared to Shisui's versatility, Satoru had fewer things worth boasting about.

"Byakugan, Gentle Fist, and… the Flying Thunder God Technique."

"These are my main forms of combat."

As he spoke, Satoru mentally reviewed his own arsenal—and realized these truly were the only things he could confidently mention.

But the moment the words Flying Thunder God Technique left his lips, everyone's expression changed.

Shisui's eyes widened in surprise, studying Satoru with newfound understanding—it suddenly made sense why such a young boy could already hold the rank of Special jonin.

Shibi, who already knew, still couldn't help the glint in his eyes upon hearing it confirmed directly.

Guy, however, froze completely.

"F—Flying Thunder God Technique?" he stammered. "You mean that Flying Thunder God Technique—the one the Fourth Hokage uses?!"

His shocked outburst echoed across the training field, utterly unbefitting a jonin.

"Hey, Guy."

"Calm down," Shibi said sharply. "And remember—Satoru's mastery of the Flying Thunder God must remain strictly confidential."

Then, his tone shifted back to practical business.

"Words alone aren't enough for true understanding."

"There's no better way to learn about each other… than through combat."

"We'll have some simple sparring sessions—to get a feel for each other's abilities."

Turning toward Satoru, Shibi beckoned. "Alright then. Satoru, you're with me. Guy, you'll pair with Shisui."

"We'll go a few rounds, then decide what formation best suits our team."

Indeed—nothing revealed compatibility better than battle itself. Shibi, a by-the-book leader, clearly wanted to gauge everyone's skills firsthand.

No one objected. After all, everyone had come to the training grounds expecting exactly this.

"Then let's begin," Shibi said quietly.

"My ability—is insect manipulation."

As the four split into pairs and took their positions, Shibi struck first. From the sleeves of his coat, a swarm of inky-black insects poured forth, flooding toward Shisui and Guy.

Parasitic Insects.

Creatures that could devour chakra—one of the Aburame clan's signature weapons.

"Shisui!" Guy shouted, already springing back toward his young partner. "Your turn!"

Physical combat was his forte, but against a tide of chakra-eating bugs, he wisely sought backup.

Shisui didn't hesitate. Forming rapid hand seals, he took a deep breath and exhaled a torrent of flame.

Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique!

The signature jutsu of the Uchiha—blazing heat surged forward, colliding with the insect swarm and igniting them in a burst of roaring flame.

The field was instantly engulfed in firelight.

And at that exact moment—

Satoru flickered out of sight, appearing beside Aburame Shibi. As he landed, he pressed a Flying Thunder God mark onto Shibi's cloak, then swiftly scattered kunai marked with the same seal around the perimeter.

This was it—his first chance to test the Flying Thunder God in actual combat.

He wanted to see for himself—

What would the battlefield look like when the Flying Thunder God truly came into play?
