Chapter 23 - [Bonus] Higher Vampire Breaking In

A/N: This one is cause you guys are awesome and managed to beat the 100 powerstones last week, now we going for the 200.

[Blood Diary Entry]

After a refreshing nap, I was woken up by the sounds of civilization.

A few hundred meters or so in the distance, a little town emerged from the darkness. I didn't bother reading the name of the city. Either way, by the end of the week, I would be leaving, so it didn't really make sense to waste time memorizing it.

I looked to my side. Mother was looking at me with a serious expression, and when I looked through the rearview mirror, I also saw a subtle frown on Rebekah's face. She wasn't showing it, but I knew she was worried and curious.

I had more explanations to do on the horizon.

Seriously, I am tired of it… But actions do have consequences.

The car kept moving forward, and soon enough, we were inside the town.

It was quaint, nice and tidy, no trash on the streets. It was quiet, but I wager that is also because it's so late into the night.

The lampposts arranged neatly on the main street made it seem like a royal procession.

We looked for a hotel or an inn that was still open, but at this hour, only some shabby motels were available in the outermost layer of the town, real dumps.

Honestly speaking, I didn't really mind. After all, there are only so many memories of your previous incarnation bathed in blood and gore that one can take before they are desensitized by these things. But if I suggested bunking in one of those noble reputable establishments, Rebekah could very well behead me for the gall of even thinking that.

I saw Rebekah's eyes narrow in my direction, her gaze promising anything but a nice time.

Truly, women's instincts are a scary thing.

Not left with any other alternatives, we found ourselves in the most luxurious hotel, even if it was already closed.

I could hear some heartbeats inside, probably some guests or cleaning staff, but none on the top floor…

Rebekah's absurd luck, maybe?

We parked and got out of the 4Runner. I glanced up at the roof and then looked at the two ladies by my side.

"Rebekah, would you mind?" She raised an eyebrow, her expression puzzled.

"I don't follow…"

"I mean, could you jump up there with my mother?" Mother looked at me curiously.

"What? You can't do it yourself, mister 'I will destroy you, no matter what it takes'?" She teased me with a smirk on her face.

I looked away, face flushing a little, a pout on my lips. "I don't have all of my abilities just yet… I would have to jump up there with her in my arms, and I am scared of the whiplash of my speed snapping her neck…" She looked at me with an understanding gaze, while Mother just stood without saying or reacting much. "Besides… I am small, I don't really make for the most comfortable of lifts…"

Then both of them burst into giggles and loud laughter.

Rebekah dried an illusory tear and got behind my mother, one hand behind her shoulders, the other on the back of her knees, lifting her in a princess carry. Then she launched up with speed and strength.

I looked at the pristine ground, not a crack on sight.

If anything, she does have impressive control of her own strength.

Smiling, I turned into crimson mist and flew up, reforming at their side.

Rebekah looked at me, envious and in awe of these abilities of mine.

She put my mother gently on the ground, and Mom straightened her clothes.

The three of us looked at the glass door that gave access to the penthouse, and obviously, the thing was locked.

Rebekah, in all her impatience was about to tear the thing down—after all money wasn't really a problem for her family, she could afford a new door.

But before she could kick the innocent thing down, I held her hand, indicating for her to step back.

Stepping forward, I cracked my neck and knuckles.

"Watch and learn, ladies."

Once more, I turned into mist, my incorporeal form slipping into the crevices of the door, a portion of the mist went into the lock, and, exerting expert control, I thickened the mist and made it act like a key, unlocking the door. Dramatically, I reformed on the other side, from feet to head; the process was slow but really cool to watch.

With a cocky smile, I pulled the door open.

Rebekah gave an impressed whistle. Mother, though, didn't seem all too happy with it.

I tilted my head, and if I were in a cartoon, I am quite sure a question mark would've popped up atop my head.

Mom narrowed her eyes and decided to enlighten me to her latest dissatisfaction. "This is too convenient a power," her eyes were still carrying that mother fury in them.

"You mean for stealing stuff?" I blinked in astonishment. "I mean… yeah, kinda, but I don't really see a problem with that, and then again, it would get boring quickly."

Mother didn't relent; she kept glaring at me. "I meant for peeping," Rebekah was now wheezing in laughter, while my face fell.

"Mom… what do you think I am?"

She didn't respond.

"Mom, you are going to make Rebekah think I am a deviant," I felt this betrayal oozing into my very core, "I never even did anything, so why would you say that?"

Mother's eyes narrowed into a thin line. "And in the car just now, what was that intimacy with Rebekah?" This time, Rebekah froze as well, her face reddening in a charming but embarrassed blush.

"I didn't do anything wrong!" I defended myself.

Mother, though, didn't seem convinced. "Explanations… Now!"

I sighed and raised my arms in defeat.

"Fine, but let's sleep for now, shall we? I promise I'll explain stuff first thing in the morning."

"Very well." She nodded, then looked at me with worry. "You are sleeping a lot recently. Is everything okay?" She didn't ask about the ghosts. She didn't ask about the fight. She asked about me.

Of course she did.

I smiled and nodded back. "Yeah, I'm fine, it's just that I have to adapt and sort my body out, even if my body was never fully human, the shift was too sudden. It was forced and violent, so by resting, I am speeding up the process."

She smiled and sighed in relief.

With that, I made a dramatic bow and invited them inside; both giggled when they walked past me.

The room was lavish and quite elegant, though it only had a double bed.

I didn't need them to say anything; I just made my way to the couch and drifted off into dreamland.
