Chapter 58 - The Man-Faced Demon Spider

After anxiously waiting for five minutes, Flender returned to the camp with an unusually serious expression. He said in a deep voice:

"The situation is probably not optimistic. Tang San and Xiao Wu were likely ambushed by a very powerful soul beast while fetching water. Now both of them have already gone missing.

I carefully examined the traces left on the ground. The soul beast that attacked them should be from the ape-type species.

This soul beast must have leapt down from a high place and pounced directly at the two of them, so it left very obvious marks on the ground.

However, judging from the imprints, the size of the soul beast was extremely large—most likely a soul beast over fifty thousand years old.

Why would a soul beast of this level appear in such an outer region? It's really hard to understand.

The only good news is that the beast's pounce probably did not kill Tang San and Xiao Wu.

At the scene of the attack, the ground still had some of Tang San's special hidden weapons. On a tree ten meters away, I found clear collision marks and blood traces.

Farther ahead, there were also signs of someone moving rapidly through the area.

However, at the scene, I did not find any traces belonging to Xiao Wu at all. I can only assume she was taken away by the soul beast.

And after Tang San saw Xiao Wu being taken, he must have lost his composure completely and chased after it directly."

"Tang San is far too impulsive! How could he chase after it at a time like this?" Zhao Wuji also became anxious after hearing Flender's analysis.

As for Austine, he sighed inwardly. So it really was the second possibility he had thought of?

The perspective shifts—

At this moment, Xiao Wu was sitting on the Titan Giant Ape's shoulder. The Titan Giant Ape was carrying her and advancing through the Star Dou Great Forest at a speed unimaginable to ordinary people.

Worry filled Xiao Wu's face. Very soon, they arrived deep within the Star Dou Great Forest, and the Titan Giant Ape finally stopped.

It gently placed Xiao Wu on the ground. Its pair of lantern-sized bright yellow eyes were filled with tender gentleness as it gazed at her.

"Er Ming, you didn't hurt Xiao San just now, did you?"

Xiao Wu's question seemed to make the huge Titan Giant Ape feel extremely wronged. It lay on the ground and let out several "woo woo" sounds.

"Alright, alright, I know you controlled your strength," Xiao Wu hurriedly comforted it, patting the Titan Giant Ape's head.

Then she continued, "Let's just hope Xiao San doesn't try to come after us alone.

I need to start condensing my soul ring now. Er Ming, help me keep watch. The sooner I finish, the sooner I can go back so everyone won't worry."

Hearing her words, the Titan Giant Ape obediently nodded. It then released a low roar, intimidating all the soul beasts nearby.

Xiao Wu sat cross-legged in front of the Titan Giant Ape. Behind her appeared the huge phantom of a Soft Bone Rabbit.

As time passed, the Soft Bone Rabbit phantom gradually transformed into a purple soul ring.

The perspective shifts back to Tang San—

Right now, Tang San was charging through the forest with blood-red eyes, running like a madman.

He knew the soul beast that ambushed him and Xiao Wu was a Titan Giant Ape—an existence known as the King of the Forest with a cultivation of over ten thousand years.

But he simply could not bear watching Xiao Wu—whom he had sworn to protect—being taken away right before his eyes.

Even though he clearly understood that the Star Dou Forest at night was absolutely not a place a mere Great Soul Master could freely traverse…

Even though he knew that even if he caught up, it would be a dead end, and not only would he fail to rescue Xiao Wu, he would lose his life as well…

Tang San still chased recklessly, completely forgetting he could ask the teachers behind him for help.

But how terrifying was the Titan Giant Ape's speed? With only his legs, how could Tang San possibly catch up?

As for the flying soul tool, Tang San did not dare to use it.

On one hand, if he used a flying soul tool and flew rapidly over the forest canopy,

he would definitely be regarded by the powerful flying soul beasts as openly provoking them.

In that case, he would be shot down and killed within one minute. He still hadn't found Xiao Wu yet—Tang San told himself that no matter what, he could not die so easily.

On the other hand, although the Titan Giant Ape was massive, it was extremely nimble moving through the jungle and left almost no visible trail.

It was already late. If Tang San tracked from the air, he wouldn't be able to find any traces.

In truth, at this point, Tang San could no longer find any clues to guide him. He was purely relying on instinct.

Suddenly—Tang San's Purple Demon Eyes caught a strange detail. Instinctively, he immediately decelerated and rolled to the right.

Looking up again, he saw that the path he was originally charging toward was now completely covered by a white, mucus-coated spider web.

Watching the fallen leaves on the ground being corroded and emitting white smoke, Tang San realized the web was extremely poisonous.

Before Tang San could react further, the attacker, having missed its ambush, jumped down from the tree and rushed toward him on its eight long legs.

Seeing the giant spider-type soul beast charging at him, Tang San's heart was filled with despair.

When the spider leapt from the tree earlier, Tang San clearly saw the human-face pattern on its abdomen. Combined with its earlier poisonous web attack, he immediately identified the soul beast—

The Man-Faced Demon Spider.

Given his internal injuries and nearly depleted soul power, Tang San had no confidence he could survive an attack from a thousand-year Man-Faced Demon Spider.

However, Tang San also had reasons he must defeat this Man-Faced Demon Spider—not only for himself, but also for Xiao Wu, whose life or death was still unknown.

Blue Silver Grass shot out, Tang San attempting to restrict the spider's movements. But for a Man-Faced Demon Spider, the toughness and venom of Blue Silver Grass were simply insignificant.

It broke free effortlessly and continued stabbing its two front legs toward him.

Helpless, Tang San could only use Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track Steps to dodge repeatedly, barely holding on, hoping to find a chance to strike a vital point.

But the Man-Faced Demon Spider's vital point was located on its abdomen, protected behind eight poisonous legs—how could Tang San easily reach it?

The only good news was that the spider could only spit its poisonous web three times a day and had already expended its uses. So Tang San could engage in close combat without fear of web attacks.

But good times didn't last long. Tang San could feel his wounds worsening, and his soul power was nearly gone.

"I must go all out!" Tang San thought to himself.

Taking advantage of another missed attack, Tang San used his acceleration soul tool to leap up beside the spider's back carapace.

A dark glow flashed in his left hand—the incomparably heavy hammer, his second martial soul, appeared in his grip.

Ignoring the spider legs stabbing at him, he smashed the hammer hard onto its carapace.

The tremendous impact lifted one side of the Man-Faced Demon Spider's body, revealing its abdomen and six eyes. But Tang San was also thrown away by the force of the spider leg.

If not for the triggered defensive soul tool shield on his body, he would have been skewered through the chest.

While airborne, still tumbling, Tang San reached into his Twenty-Four Moonlit Bridges and pulled out a metal box. His right hand brushed across it, triggering a sharp mechanical sound.

The spider's lifted body was just about to fall back down and hide its abdomen behind its legs—

Tang San aimed the metal box at the spider's abdomen. With a crisp "ka-bing" sound,

a blurred shadow shot out from the box and pierced straight into the six eyes on its abdomen.

The spider legs landed. The Man-Faced Demon Spider let out a painful shriek, thrashing wildly and destroying all the vegetation around it.

In the distance, Tang San crawled up from beneath a large tree that had stopped his fall. He spat out another mouthful of blood—his face pale as paper, his body trembling.

But in his eyes was a trace of relief.

Sure enough, not long after, the Man-Faced Demon Spider's struggle came to a halt. A purple soul ring appeared above its corpse.

Seeing the bright purple ring, decisiveness flashed across Tang San's eyes.

After spreading insect-repelling powder in a circle around him and eating the last Recovery Sausage Oscar had prepared,

Tang San sat cross-legged beside the Man-Faced Demon Spider and began absorbing the soul ring.

Reaching Soul Elder level through soul ring absorption was the only way Tang San could quickly raise his strength right now.

This Man-Faced Demon Spider happened to meet his requirements for poison and toughness.

And Tang San judged that the spider's age should not exceed his third soul ring absorption limit of 2,000 years. So he decisively chose to begin absorbing his third soul ring here—without anyone to protect him.
